Re: [slim] Do people still buy digital music? New business idea; would love feedback

2015-01-16 Thread toby10

I think your sub-set of potential customers will be so small it will not
be sustainable. One (specialized) music genre, attract those that want
to "buy" (not subscribe), purchases would be infrequent. I also think
you have no idea how much time and money it will take to market the
service, attract and maintain relationships with numerous record labels,
maintain licensing agreements, server issues and maintenance, etc

I just use existing services, pick a genre, then select the "mix" menu
item (which then randomly plays artists/bands within that genre).

IMO, it's not that your idea is bad, rather that not all good ideas are
a business. :)

Re: [slim] Players to replace the Squeezeboxes? Scared after a storm took out my devices

2015-01-16 Thread sksahai

Just to add to this thread, I was wondering what the thoughts were in
terms of sound quality between an android TV box with digital outs vs
rasperry pi + DAC +PiCoreplayer?

>From my analysis: Raberry Pi B+ $40 HiFi berry Case USD $23 + HiFi
Digi+ USD $37 + shipping: $100 dollars

A basic android box with optical out on USA amazon runs about $90 to
100.

I have AV receivers in each room where I would want the music, hooked up
to TVs, so I think the level of pain would be the same.

If I am correct, and I use optical outs, the receiver is responsible for
the decoding, not the device itself?

Re: [slim] Squeezebox 2015 - Is the Squeezebox Universe Expanding of Shrinking?

2015-01-16 Thread NikolajC

I'm thinking that it's not completely out of the picture that Logitech
is considering reintroducing the Squeezebox line again? I mean every
company and their mother come out with streaming solutions - why not be
a part of that again?

one can always dream. I'd love a TOUCH II and a BOOM II myself. But I
don't have a lot of faith in the management decision making of Logitech
(unlike the excellent faith I have in the engineering side of things).

2015-01-16 Thread Dogberry2

I looked through (I think) the whole site, and didn't see any lists of
bands/albums/tracks or any way to purchase/pay for anything. Is it just
a plan, at this point, but not yet up-and-running?

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Squeezeslave: 1.2 released

2015-01-16 Thread Mathewww

Dear,
I have installed squeezeslave on a Raspberry using Squeezeplug.
It works great !
Second step: I have installed a LCD, LCDproc and I'm using the command
line option -l -D -w20.
Also working but the accented characters appear blank on my display and
on the console (through SSH).
Is there something to do to correct this please ?

Best regards
