That I don't know but think that you have to adapt it.
In the meanwhile take a look at the KidsPlayer Plugin. With that you can
configure a button to switch off all players for instance.

Re: [slim] Meridian MQA - Breakthrough? LMS possible?

2015-10-29 Thread Mnyb

With coast i mean sbscription cost for the MQA service .

I do understand that it's hirez streaming with some novel compression (
call it lossy hirez ) that in it itself is piontless as 16/44.1 is good
enough for human beings .

Besides that excruciatingly few recordings actually challenge the
confines if pedestrian CD .

I do understand I have several hundreds of DVDA discs and hires
downloads . It's simply the recording quality itself that distinguish a
good record from a bad record . The consumer container is irrelevant if
it's equal to or better than 16/44.1 .
Try to downsample one of your own hires recordings ( do not compare with
the CD release ) to 16/44.1 and compare that blind . Yes the CD version
and Hirez version can sound different but that's simply because it not
the same master it has again nothing to do with if it s 16/44.1 or
24/192 as when a format is good enough for our hearing it does not
improve further.

What is unique ? you can subscribe to other services with good enough
sound quality and most likely a much wider catalog .
Do they offer some music we will not otherwise hear from anyone else .
If we got discrete multichannel that would have meant something ,that's
was the only real improvement DVDA and SACD actually had .

It's a marketing exercise the the goal is to get $$$ from audiophiles .
We already have the means to get the soundquality and catalog .

Is it possible ? technically probably if an API and some specs appear .
Legally who knows content provides can be finicky .
As squeezebox firmware is not developed these days a server side plugin
for LMS that transcodes to all kind of players would probably be
"possible" and the way to go as its support all squeezeboxes and does
not depend on mysqueezebox.com .

MQA is hi res streaming, and not the same as hi-fi subscription, that is
16/44. It is mayby wrong to call it a new format, as it's Flac.

Early adopting would benefit those that would like to stream hi res and
Tidal.
And yes, very unique, as only a few media players would have this option
I guess. Maybe only Auralic.

Cost: the effort of adding a plugin to SB Touch ?

Hope someone that understand MQA can answer my question.

No, but for most people listening to the music is still more important
than monitoring the performance of their service provider. I do have
several HiFi service subscriptions but the only cases when I actually
look into these parameters is when I want to check whether the right
account is activated and for that the context menu is just fine.

I mean if you don't get a FLAC stream, then what? Get angry at
TIDAL? Not enough time for that in my life :) I would check if it sounds
murky but for that, again, the context menu is fine. In most cases it
turns out to be a bad mix, not the stream format.

I can only re-iterate it: showing already TOO MUCH information is the
single most frequent complaint I get about iPeng, I can't clutter this
even more, every time I add something I get tons of complaints. Just
check today's comments in the iPeng service thread because I added a
section divider for the CD number if you want to get a feeling.

Oh, and there's another point: that information is totally unreliable :)
Only the player _really_ knows what it's getting and then has to tell
the server which in turn tells iPeng... this often breaks.

>
> Still hoping for a reconsiddering :D

As I said: some day there will be a nice, crowded, configurable
alternative screens showing bitrate, sample rate, BPM, file size, URL,
file format, comments, year, genre, biographies, CD number, 10-step
ratings and all these other things people ask for to get on the main
screen. You will be able to permanently use it as a screen saver like
you can use the lyrics screen saver now, it's almost like the main page
and that's it then.

No, when browsing does not make sense. As the hifi subscription user
assume he/her gets CD quality. And such information can of cause only be
detected while playing.

Yes, iPeng shows the streaming quality after pressing to menu items. So
yes, I'm requesting on the main window or both. Somewhere on the top.
(Similar to the Auralic app).

If this is only of interest for 1 % of the users, then what you are
saying is that only about 1 % of the users has a hi-fi subscription.
Really ? I was expecting a higher prosentage of the iPeng was hi-fi
subscribers. (As this only will serve those, and those that does not
have control over their local files).

The idea is to easy see that you are not getting the expected sound
quality. This will be even more important when or if MQA is implemented,
as only a few tracks will be available in the beginning. 5000 has been
said.

Well anyway you already refused main screens. Even if it was adding a
color that only those with hi-fi subscription could see.
Just have to see what info screen brings then. Not sure that helps, as
that also may need two touches on my iPad for every song from main
screen. Well it will probably save me the long press.

Thanks for a quick replay.
Still hoping for a reconsiddering :D

We have discussed this before.

I just like to encourage you again to have the streaming quality
available somewhere in the main page. Not hidden under the more info
option.
Mp3, Flac (16/24 and 44/48/96/192), and if MQA is beeing implemented,
that also of cause.

I understand this will be something most usefull for those of us having
Tidal/Wimp hi-fi plan.
I often find music I'm playing only to be available in MP3. Also usefull
for your ripped or phurchased tracks.

If you argue it's hard to find a place, you could even use a color code
in the play symbol as an example.

You can use the powersave plugin, use either PowerSwitchIII or my method
desribed elsewhere to power a SSR supplying the AC for your amp.
In parallel with the amp use the AC to power an electromagnet, this
electromagnet holds a 1 Kilo steel block to the ceiling with pulleys.
Attach the cord from the block to your headphones.

When the system powers down the block wil be released pulling your
headphones off and allowing a relaxing nights sleep !

There is an LMS pref regarding power state synching in a group
(Prefs>Player_name>Synchronize>"Synchronize power")
If set to yes, then powering on/off one player will power on/off all
players in the sync group.

I never use power sync, I use the powersave plugin instead --and
ServerPowerControl can work too.
I just tested though -LMS 7.9, recent enough-, and power off in a sync
group doesn't seem to work well with players that use IR Blaster (the
"slave" SB3 did power off, but the amp did not.)

Personally I would loop among the players list and power off each one
separately, and keep power states sync off in LMS prefs. Won't be any
slower, and would probably be more robust.

Don't forget to make your script resistant to zombie players. If you use
more than 1 LMS server, or mySB.com, players that have moved to another
server tend to linger in the list of attached players for a few
seconds/minutes. Sending a command to a zombie player will throw an
error.

Ah, yes, because the varying input signal from the microphone causes
extra CPU load, jitter and entropy, all dramatically affecting sound
quality. (WARNING: I'm kidding too!)

Re: [slim] Power Control Plugin

2015-10-29 Thread Apesbrain

I'm laughing at this thread and not sure how to reply. I did find the
CLI "power" command but it doesn't seem able to address a group of
players.

If you want to disable that internal microphone, I'm pretty sure I was
able to do it with soundcheck's "Toolbox". (WARNING: I'm kidding.)

2015-10-29 Thread Ronc01

Thanks for replies, and for the one on slim forums.
Unfortunately have tried both 7.7.6 and 7.7.9
(http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly) to no avail.
Back to the drawing board.
All the Best.

AFAIK nobody has ever harnessed the microphone within the Touch.
Otherwise it would have been a simple matter of developing a snore
detection app :)

Also wanted to say very nice update. The new font is a nice change. As
always the Voiceover support is excellent and appreciated.
