[slim] Ras Pi Hifiberry DAC Pro Setup

2015-11-25 Thread pkfox

Hi all, my Hifiberry DAC Pro arrived today and I have it set up and
working, I am impressed so far but have a few questions

1) The playback volume is quite a bit lower than my TP ( it's like when
you forget to set the volume to fixed 100 % on the web server interface
) how do I set it to 100% ?
2) In my haste I messed around with alsamixer not knowing what I was
changing and now I have some distortion and jitter on playback :-( how
do I set alsamixer back to default ?

I've googled for all this but there is s much stuff out there and it
confuses me so I thought I'd ask here ( a link would be good )

TIA

Is one using Max2play or is one using piCoreplayer.

Google a bit more.

Basic:

SSH into pi.

type Alsamixer, press enter.

Select card (think it's F6)

Adjust volume to reqired level.

Save setting (google a bit)

I think there is a CML instruction to set volume to 0db (or something)
but I'm not sure if that is foe the iQAudio card only.

Or reflash the microSD card back to a totally clean default install.

Hi and thanks, I have played around and subsequently fd it up and
want to know how to unf**k it without reinstalling it all :-) What
confuses me in alsamixer is all the different options such as
deemphasise , mute volume ( oxymoron if ever there was one ) Ah well
despite having joined the workers, marched with the masses, manned the
barricades and lots more in the sixties it looks like I've got to do it
again. :-)

I think you just like making it hard for yourself !

Use PiCoreplayer for a simple to setup and use Squeezebox (player)

Try Max2Play if you want a LMS server and Player as well.

I thought you wanted a replacement for your Transporter ? That does not
have an LMS server built in !

And yes you can use LMS and Squeezelite on the same Pi BUT NOT
PICOREPLAYER as its a distrubution

Seems like mision creep to me.

Ah if it' a rpi2B then I would guess that jessie should just respond to
the SSH routine.

I presume the driver for the dac board is in the kernel.

It's not poss to use PiCorePlayer and LMS on the same machine ( B+ is
good enough for a player only £16 approx).

Do I have to change my name to Jenkins now? my specs won't stay on.

Re: [slim] Ras Pi Hifiberry DAC Pro Setup

2015-11-25 Thread d6jg

I totally agree with Jeff.

piCorePlayer for a player - runs entirely in RAM (no moving parts to
break)
max2play for a server / player.

Using piCorePlayer particularly it is easy to just reflash the microSD
and start again as it only takes minutes to set up from scratch.
The same is true for max2play but the config of LMS will take a bit
longer than minutes.

What Jan means is that the only way of determining when something was
added would be by way of the file timestamp. As this would not always be
the date you actually added the file to the LMS library the "all files
added since ddmmyy" routine would not always be accurate. If for example
you today correct a tag in a file that you might have added in 2010 the
timestamp is going to be today. Indeed LMS itself will bring the album
to the top of the New Music menu for exactly this reason.

The point is that the only benefit from a balanced connection comes from
having a fully differential, balanced *input* on your amp. If your amp
only has unbalanced RCA inputs, a converter cable won't magically make
it differential/balanced, and there won't be any benefit - it won't
matter if you use unbalanced (RCA) or balanced (XLR) connectors on your
*source*.
