Re: [slim] The Automation of Selling Out

2017-12-13 Thread pablolie

Interesting thread.

I nearly asked about Spotify use patterns in the audiophile forum. Is it
sacrilege? :-)

I am what many would call an "audiophile", yet I *adore* Spotify. Their
collection is amazing, audio quality is great (shut up you "I could only
listen to the mouse fart in a corner of the studio in the 192/24 HD
re-issue" people), and convenient as hell. I have a huge collection of
music, and Spotify these days probably covers 80% of it. Awesome. It
means I basically wasted over $25k on stuff I could get for $10 a month.
Do the math. I love my 1TB music collection but if I was starting off...
it'd be Spotify playlists. There are only about 5 albums where I can or
care to tell a difference between MP3 and uncompressed.

Spotify is not selling out. It's just about embracing a convenient way
when it comes to enjoying a huge choice of quality music. Which is why
we embraced CDs initially, no vinyl temperamental stuff (which some
people embrace and love now again, not me, ever again; but to each their
own).

I'll keep buying music, but Spotify or whatever follows is there to stay
in my arsenal for sheer convenience.

Hope you enjoy my John Peel tape!

If you're amused by his attempts to pronounce "bransle" (an
early-baroque dance), here's how it should be done:

answer.

Hi Meep.

Well that looks great. Using Google Home to control a Squeezbox would be
dead useful for me so I'll keep my eye on your work.
One thing... I didn't quite understand your use of the word 'skill'. Is
this an Elexa specific word or maybe a programming word?

Do you have a mailing list or something? I'd like to know when you've
cracked the ability to choose music or playlist.

One last thing... once you've developed the app to work with Alex, is it
much work to port it to Google Home?

Hi there

Check out the hab-tunes videos to get an idea of how LMS voice control
works on Alexa. I'm hoping to migrate this to Google Home once released
(early new year)

As Castalla says, there's no direct selection of music yet (working on
favourites and playlists right now). It will always be for control of
LMS and squeezeboxes - I've tried direct streaming music to the Echo
device itself but it's hampered by very significant lag so playback of
local files through an echo of google home is unlikely - you'll always
need to play back via a SB device.

Stay tuned to Alexa developments to get an idea of what might be coming
to a Google Home near you.

described which cost me 59p :)

I've created a jivelite MacOS disk image package for 10.7+ similiar to
the one for squeezeplay which should be installed in /Applications

If you created an automator script for the /opt/jivelite tarball you
need to delete it, removing if from the trash and reboot your Mac BEFORE
installing the dmg. Until I did that, trying to run jivelite from
Applications failed and you'll find errors in the console log similiar
to these.

Code:

2017-12-12 2:41:21.759 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]:
(com.apple.automator.Jivelite.248992[94879]) Could not find and/or execute
program specified by service: 2: No such file or directory:
/Applications/Jivelite.app/Contents/MacOS/Application Stub
  2017-12-12 2:41:21.759 PM Finder[391]: spawn_via_launchd() failed, errno=111
label=com.apple.automator.Jivelite.248992
path=/Applications/Jivelite.app/Contents/MacOS/Application Stub flags=1 :
LaunchApplicationClient.cp #1136 LaunchApplicationViaLaunchDJobLabel()
q=com.apple.root.default-qos

The jivelite disk image is available for download 'here'
(https://sourceforge.net/projects/lmsclients/files/jivelite/osx/).

Once you've installed the new package you can delete the old jivelite
install from a Terminal session.

cd /opt
sudo rm -rf jivelite

An automator script can then be recreated if you need to set any
environment variables. The new path to the jivelite executable is
/Applications/Jivelite.app/Contents/MacOS/Jivelite

LMS control - not available. Meep has an alexa plugin (alpha) which
works (but not to choose from music library).

Accessing local music via GH or Alexa is essentially impossible - you
are stuck with what the devices offer (eg. Spotify, Google Play Music).
You can upload your files to Google Play Music BUT there are many
complaints that accessing them via the Home devices is very buggy.
Spotify is good, but again accessing local files is badly implemented.

The UK version of Home has a very restricted set of services compared to
the US. Google support is very poor - no feedback on issues you might
raise.

[slim] LMS with Google Home, Chromecast and IFTTT?

2017-12-13 Thread ModelCitizen

Hello all.

I run a large Flac library via Windows based LMS to a number of Squeeze
and Chromecast enable devices. Control is mostly by Orange Squeeze on
Android devices.

I am getting a Google Home device for Christmas and am trying to figure
out if I can use it to control my Squeeze devices to play my flac
library (preferably via LMS but think that's probably not likely). I've
been pointed towards an app called IFTTT (IFTTT.com) but can't see how
it can help (not being a developer). Has anyone any experience of Google
Home and flac based local libraries? Any suggestions would be very
welcome.

Waffle: am quite excited by this device. It seems i will be able to use
it to (at least) partially to voice control my Chromecast enabled TVs,
and Spotify via my Chromecast enabled audio devices.
