Re: [slim] You learn something new everyday

2019-01-25 Thread Mnyb

Yes replay gain tags only teaks the volume at playback .

But never at a positive values because of clipping so there is a target
volume let’s say -10dB ( the exact value is probably something else ) so
the rg tags is an offset to reach the target volume usually negative .

Really well recorded stuff can have a small positive values .

But I suppose a reallly large positive value trips up the algorithm so
it does not dare to raise the volume to much as clipping may occur .
Or also likely the volume was so very low that you needed more than 100%
gain 0db at playback to match the other tracks .
The player can not provide more than full volume .

I'm sorry but this is completely wrong. Normalisation is the application
of linear amplification so as to bring the peak level to a defined value
(usually, but not necessarily, 0db).
It most definitely does not affect the dynamics.

My advice to the OP is to go ahead and normalise his Bob Marley needle
drop, and then recalculate the replay gain values.

Re: [slim] Feature Request : Random Seed

Using the “Preset Editor” you can assign a favourite/track/radio
station/playlist to an SB IR remote number button.

*Boom/SB3/Transporter and similar players:
*
To start playing a preset from the IR remote, press and hold the desired
button until you see (e.g.) “*Preset #8 (Hold to save)*”, release the
button and briefly press it again, the assigned favourite/track/radio
station/playlist should start playing.

*Touch/Radio:
*
Settings > Advanced > Beta Features > Shortcuts > scroll down to “*IR
Hold 1*” right arrow > scroll down to “*Play Preset 1*” > right arrow.
Repeat above for all IR number buttons you wish to use.
To play a preset defined in the “Preset Editor”, press and hold (2 secs)
the corresponding number button on the remote.

NB – On the Touch and Radio although there are “IR Hold *0-9*”, there
are only “Play preset *1-6*”, so you can only actually use remote
buttons 1-6 as presets.

1) Works fine even without the group player plugin. Just airplay stream
to one device, sync this device to others in LMS Webinterface/iPeng and
there you go :)

I think this is worth announcing as otherwise it will slip under the
radar

Yeah... but then a minor release should not come with new features.
People might ask why I didn't move to 7.10.0 instead :-).

Re: [slim] Feature Request : Random Seed

When I got my first squeezebox in 2006 (a SlimDevices SB3 with the IR
remote with number buttons), you could make any track, radio station,
etc. a *favourite* and assign it to an IR remote number button. I'm sure
many of the old-timers here will remember this?

Wow... I at first didn't. Then I was wondering why the heck we removed
this feature. And now I remember: these presets then were global, not
per device. With Boom's buttons we moved to the per-device model, but
never did a GUI to configure them. "It must be as easy as setting a
station on your car radio!" was the paradigm then. But you need to have
a rather old car nowadays to remember those radios...

IIRC The plugin is provided as part of the LMS set of 3rd party plugins.
It is still available unless VB 2.4 does something odd.

WaveInput Plugin is a last resort and often not a very satisfactory
solution. Audio quality may be compromised (two conversions) and very
dependent on line-in hardware. Also there can be a delay due to
buffering and recompressing into Flac which varies according to system
and if it is a few seconds - some find intolerable.
