Re: [slim] Linux
I have only ever uses my SB software on Linux, never Windows. It's a headless Ubuntu VM running on my Windows server, with the music files actually held on the Windows box and mounted via /etc/fstab. It's worked reliably for..12 years? I have my install notes, if it helps, but it's dead easy and rock solid. jimwillsher's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=410 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110137 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Linux
There are many folks running LMS on lots of different flavors of Linux. it works great and has a lot of support on this boards. Just pick something fairly mainstream and you'll be fine. Steve, with regard to LMS, it can all be done from a pi Raspbian Stretch with desktop, or piCorePlayer. Have a read of this https://www.howtogeek.com/266072/you-can-still-get-windows-10-for-free-with-a-windows-7-8-or-8.1-key/ or go for Mint (you can run a distro on live usb stick if you want to familiarise yourself or dual boot as mentioned above). ronnie Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110137 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Linux
I have been using linux since 1994 when Win-95 was released and I was sick of the blue screen of death from Win-3.1. Never looked back. For beginners, I recommend Mint or Ubuntu-LTS distribution, but I use Debian. Lots of choices with Linux, so if you want it to look like Windows-7 go ahead. I recommend that you dual boot for a while until you become comfortable using linux. Since you have stuck with Windows-7 all these years, you may not be comfortable using linux. Another suggestion is to just unplug your Windows-7 from the network, and not worry about updates from Microsoft and let this be your LMS machine. Then get another machine entirely and install Windows-10, linux, or whatever, until you get it setup like you want. Then decide if you want to transition to the new machine, or just keep running LMS on your old one. freelsjd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4344 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110137 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

If you use a linux distri and that matches the needed Perl Version and architecture from a version of LMS why should we got a problem? Wouldn't surprise me if WMP's "volume normalisation" is some sort of compressor that attempts to boost the perceived volume to match typical CDs. Just guessing, though. [slim] Squeezeplay skipping to next track randomly
When I'm playing random song mixes on Squeezeplay 7.8.0 (on Windows 10) I frequently get songs skipping to the next track before completion. I'm running LMS 7.9.1 on Linux. When I tried to download logs to investigate (from the LMS web GUI) I got an empty server log. My logging settings on the LMS web interface are set to "Error" for all log types (which presumably tells me that the skipping is not caused by errors, as the server log was empty?). Which log setting(s) do I need to change to get more info on what's causing the random skipping? itm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17437 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110134 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I extended my LastMix plugin to do something similar independently of your local music. See https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?110132. It allows you to create a seed based on Last.fm tags.
