Unlike the three pin UK plug format, which won’t play nicely with a
French power socket without a cheapo adapter. But I think the supplier
sells into France, he may have a suitable format.

Can confirm, I've had two of these, one for a Classic, one for a Touch,
both still going strong. :)

Bought this "-MyVolts 5V UK plug power supply compatible with Logitech
Squeezebox Classic Media player-" in Feb 2014, worked fine until Feb
2018 when it failed. Supplier replaced under guarantee, no quibble,
replacement working fine.

Barrel plug is correctly sized.

As a "go-to", it has worked for well me. I have no particular opinion.

[slim] SB3 Switching PSU replacement. Opinons?

2020-06-12 Thread epoch1970

The usual scare, suddenly the SB3 stops working... Turns out the SB3 was
not dead. Only its PSU had decided it was time to go.

Years ago I had the same issue (on another unit), I got a PSU out of
AMZN, supposedly "made for SB" and clearly it was not.
More recently (for yet another unit) I made my own USB to barrel
connector cable and used an USB power port available next to the SB3.
Works fine.

I'm contemplating my options, between:
1 - a USB-barrel cord + some redundant mobile/iThing charger
2 - a Raspberry Pi PSU (pretty good and inexpensive, IMHO) to which I
would solder a barrel connector. AFAIK this PSU delivers 5.1V rather
than 5.0V

Do you have an opinion or a go-to solution for this? I'm only interested
in a cheap and compact solution.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the "new" display I finally took the plunge and replaced
my 'bad display'
yesterday. The replacement has been solid so far.

JoeMuc2009's 'SB3 VFD replacement blog'
(ttps://joes-tech-blog.blogspot.com/2016/09/logitech-slimdevices-squeezebox-classic.html)
was an invaluable resource during the process. I did stumble at one
point where the blog states.

Whereas pins 2 and 3 in the group of 12 are actually shorted in the
display.

Just something to be aware of as it took me a while to realize that I
hadn't soldered the two pads together by mistake.

Thanks to you both there's another SB3 saved.
