Re: [slim] SB 3 still a good unit ? Never used ! Have a good DAC to use with it.
For controlling the stuff you could use your phone ipeng (iOS) or Squeeze Ctrl (Android). A few more but these would me my pick. You could also use any browser is you would add the material plugin on LMS. *SqueezeBoxes:* 1x Transporter (Living room) 1x SB2 (shed), 1x Radio (Kitchen), 1x Boom (Dining room), 1x piCorePlayer (jacuzzi), 1x piCorePlayer (Garden) 1x OSMC + Squeezelite (Movie room), 1x Touch (Study 2), few spare unit's *Server:* LMS on Pi3 7.9.1. on PcP 3.21 *Network:* AVM Fritzbox, Netgear Smart Switch 24p, 3x Ubiquity edwin2006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=66926 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113244 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

The rPi is a headless microcomputer, the size of a deck of cards, that runs LMS, the music server that will feed your own music files to the SB3 player, over your internal network, either via ethernet or WIFI. The rPi will access your local music, by either attaching a USB drive containing your music to the rPi, or mapping a NAS on your network, if you store your files on a local NAS.Once setup, you can control playback on the SB3 using the remote that came with the SB3, using a web browser on any computer connected to your network, or using various apps available for smart phones and tablets. Note: you can use any computer you have to run LMS instead of the rPi mentioned above. Re: [slim] SB 3 still a good unit ? Never used ! Have a good DAC to use with it.
It would not be difficult to set up with your laptop and SB3 either. Best to connect with ethernet if you are using high res files but if just normal flacs or mp3s wireless may work also. Laptop can be windows or a linux distro. Downloads for Logitech Media Server are here http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v7.9.3/ and here http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/index.php?ver=8.0 The latter download page is the latest nightly which may have minor bugs but also has new improvements. Works fine for my use. PiCore is a specialized distribution that great folks here have made and that initially was dedicated to run a SB player (squeezelite) but that has extended to much more and can run LMS fully now. It's a LMS-centric small audio center for Pi. But you can use the generic Pi OS to install yourself LMS and/or a squeezelite (the player). You can then have your local collection (if any) connected to the Pi or on a NAS on your network. Now, some companies repackage Pi in different shapes and forms, sometimes with a bit of extra software, sometimes with casings & displays to make either just players, just servers or players and servers. Long story short, you have a lot of choices LMS 7.9 on Pi 3B+ & Odroid-C2 - *SqueezeAMP!*, 5xRadio, 3xBoom, 4xDuet, 1xTouch, 1 SB3. Sonos PLAY:3, PLAY:5, Marantz NR1603, Foobar2000, ShairPortW, JRiver 21, 2xChromecast Audio, Chromecast v1 and v2, Squeezelite on Pi, Yamaha WX-010, AppleTV 4, Airport Express, GGMM E5, Riva 1 & 3 philippe_44's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17261 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113244 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] SB 3 still a good unit ? Never used ! Have a good DAC to use with it.
Hi, I am putting a stereo back together (long story). I have a Squeezebox 3 that has literally never ever been used. I am wondering how best to utilize it today (lot of time has passed since it was designed) ? I am handy with Linux and Windows, I seem to recall Linux used to be the preferred platform ? I have a spare laptop and can throw together a desktop pc if needed. I wish this streamed as I have Amazon music HD, but no problem, this can be another input on the pre-amp. In short, should I spend tine setting this up ? If so, how would you do it if you just were gifted an SB 3 ? I don't have or can't find at the remote. I am hoping a universal remote will pick up its functions. Feel free to forward some easy how-to, advice links. The audiophile people on here (I would be one) used to buy better power supplies for ths unit, but that would only matter if the internal DAC were being used, no ? I have a good external DAC to use with it.
