If you PM me your email address, I will contact one of the admins there
and ask if they can do something for you so that your registration goes
through.

My guess is that it is such a quiet place the ratio of spam attempts to
real requests for new registrations is very high so anti-spam measures
are set to block a lot.

Sorry to ask this here, but I don't know where else I can ask.

I've just tried to register at https://www.jogglerwiki.com/forum/

For some reason I got a message saying that I'd been flagged as a
spammer and couldn't register. I tried a few different email addresses,
and then got locked out of registering.

I don't know why the mistake has happened, but I really want to get onto
that forum as well as this one.

I can't find a contact email address anywhere, to ask for help. Do any
of you know the contact details for an administrator/moderator of the
Joggler forum?

Thanks,
Damian

2020-12-04 Thread Gingermagic

I ordered my first Joggler, from eBay, earlier. :-)

If it lives up to expectations, I may by a few.

If not, I may go down the raspberry and touch screen route.

In the mean time, I'm focussing on getting all of out phones working
better with my current slim devices.

Do you guys tend to use the 'Material UI' thing that has been mentioned,
rather than iPeng (which is the best app I've found previously)?

Thanks,
Damian

I don;t know about Joggler but I think they are end of life and maybe
higher maintenance than you want.

First detail what are your problems / main needs (e.g. portable or
fixed, controller or controller/player, built in speaker... ) and then
see if suggestion can be made. Many possible solutions exist but each
have pros/cons.

Just searched for "joggler" and then chose the "computers/tablet"
category on LHS to filter results.

These Joggler's are fascinating me.

Do you use them to play the actual music? Or just to control the Squueze
devices around the house?

And can they play TV/Films? Can you install Kodi, or are they not that
powerful?

Are they as good as a RasberyPi solution, or inferiour but quicker to
set up?

Are they comparable with a Squeezebox Touch?

Sorry for all of the questions. I've gone from not knowing that
somehting exists, to thinking that it's the answer to all of my
problems! :-)

I never realised it before, but I want a Joggler! :-)

I'm in the UK, but NOTHING shows up when I search for Joggler/Jogglers.

Do they come under a different name, or are they just rare now?

I feel like I'm in a paralel unverse. They don't seem to exist here! :-)

A regular visitor to my house aged 5 can operate a Joggler in the spare

His choice of music is also infinitely better! He likes Jazz!

To add to bpa's comments ...
it requires a power transformer - so, unlike a tablet, it is not very
mobile.
Joggler was than brand name used by the UK telecoms operator O2.
They were available in O2 shops for around 300GBP at launch ... or free
if you took it instead of a phone upgrade.
This lead to a lot making their way into people's home - but they were
not as successful as hoped so price drops were used to clear the stock.
Think of them as similar to a Squeezebox Touch without optical out but
with an internal speaker.

As a parting gesture, O2/Openpeak provided a way to unlock the devices
(although the community had already achieved it).

They became even more similar to the Touch when JiveLite was ported to
it and a replacement operating system (SqueezeOS) was made available.
I use them as both players and controllers.

I had access to one of the very first in the UK (before the product was
announced) because the company I worked for provided some of the
back-end services that it used.
I took one in exchange for a phone upgrade and bought one or two from O2
when the price went down a lot. Since then I think I have acquired at
least 10 more and pushed them into homes of family members ...

Nowadays you can find them on eBay for 15-25GBP and replacing the OS
with SqueezeOS or something else is simply a matter of putting some
software on a USB stick and rebooting.

Outside UK you might find them but under other names. The devices came
from Openpeak and they sold them to Swisscom and, I think, Cisco in USA
for home energy monitoring (I have one of those as well ... taller box
with 2 internal speakers), Verizon and Avaya (USA) for telephony.
