Re: [slim] Raspberry Pi - Do I need SqueezeSlave on PC to manage?

2021-01-01 Thread Greg Erskine

The pCP GUI is really just for the initial setup.

After that, LMS on pCP should work pretty much the same as LMS did on
your laptop. Use the same tools that you have always used.

So on your laptop for example, instead of http://localhost:9000 use
http://LMS_IP_address:9000

Thanks. Suggestion was part of explanation of how to get IP address.

So I can manage settings via laptop with LMS web controller or SB Touch?

You manage pCP thru a browser on any device.

[slim] Raspberry Pi - Do I need SqueezeSlave on PC to manage?

2021-01-01 Thread shacky

Setting up Raspberry Pi 4 with PiCorePlayer. Reading through
instruction on PiCore site I saw one way to view Pi in command mode is
SqueezeSlave. But I can't seem to find up to date version.

Is there another program I should use?

The Pi is replacing my laptop which has been running LMS as server.

Happy New Year to all !!!

A very impressive performance, probably the best New Year Song I have
listened to.

A big thank you to all the developers who invested countless hours of
improving the Squeezebox Ecosystem.
Maybe 2021 is the right time to start a new hardware project - the BOOM
2?. Based on current Raspberry + Amps / ESP32 implementations, it
shouldn't be too difficult to create a Boom 2. However all the HIFI /
engineering knowledge of the community will be required to create a
similar audio experience of a BOOM...
Happy new Year to all,

Re: [slim] Launch a track with cli or http, without path.

2021-01-01 Thread paul-

Yes you can

Using wget. I created a variable with the request to make it easier to
see the full command.

Code:

  REQUEST={"id":1,"method":"slim.request","params":[ "myPlayer",
["playlist","loadtracks","track.titlesearch=Do%20It%20Again"]]}
  wget -T 5 -O- --post-data="$REQUEST" --header 'Content-Type:
application/json' http://:9000/jsonrpc.js

Where you see "myPlayer" in the request line, insert the name of your
player.
Enter the ip address of your lms server
Then where you see the track name, you need to use %20 instead of the
space in the name.

no way of me saying, as I don't know anything about the Sabre DAC. The
transporter was ahead of its time and considered good. But compared to
other things, I have no idea.

lots of different rPi DAC hats that get good reviews. Not sure which,
but google should help here. I use a hifiberry DAC+ pro, on an rPi3B+,
but it's in a small system that is not meant to be particularly good.
It does sound great however. Of course you can also have a digi hat. I
have one of those, hifiberry Digi+ (I think), that I feed SPDIF output
into a separate DAC.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox Touch to Transporter - sound quality

2021-01-01 Thread garym

I agree with @apesbrain. For feeding same DAC, likelihood of differing
sound quality is zero. You may or may not like the DAC in the
Transporter vs your current DAC, assuming you use the analog out of the
Transporter. I use a Transporter, balanced analog out to my pre-amp (so
using the Transporter's built in DAC). I'm very fond of the
Transporter, and in fact bought an extra one just to have as a backup in
case my first one dies.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox Touch to Transporter - sound quality

2021-01-01 Thread Apesbrain

"Sound quality" is an individual experience; only you can be the judge
of this. Both are worthy solutions and, under controlled conditions, I
doubt you'd be able to tell one from the other. It's been repeatedly
demonstrated, however, that "sound" quality is influenced by more than
sound waves hitting the eardrum. If you like the look of the
Transporter, or it provides you a certain pride of ownership, it may
indeed "sound" better to you.

If you're asking is the data somehow different as rendered to the DAC
via Touch or Transporter, the answer is no.

[slim] Squeezebox Touch to Transporter - sound quality

2021-01-01 Thread tank121

Currently my Squeezebox Touch feeds via a digital connection into my
Arcam SA10 amp which has the built in Sabre 9018 DAC.

If I was to replace the Touch with a 2nd hand Transporter would there be
a considerable improvement in sound quality?

My speakers are Dali Mentor Menuets.

TIA Happy New Year 2021
