Not sure what I did wrong but the music folder disappeared again. Just
set it in settings>interface>my music. Hope it will remain. Right now it
is there after closing the app and restarting.

Oh I see. I saw one rarely-used 3B+ called 'Abox'
(16G version) for 50 CAD online. Yeah, the RAM size is small for
scanning.

I looked at Eero 6, and the price is good right now, but only 2 ethernet
ports is a problem. I could use a ethernet switch, but I have enough
stuff plugged into the power strip, pugged into another power strip!

The interference problem I am talking about seems to only impact the SB
radios as they use a different WiFi chip than the Touch and other SB
products.

Thanks for the suggestion.

WiFi 6 is supposed to be the 802.11ax protocol. When I look at the CT8
specification, it does not mention WiFi6.
https://www.asus.com/us/Networking-IoT-Servers/Whole-Home-Mesh-WiFi-System/ZenWiFi-WiFi-Systems/ZenWiFi-AC-CT8/techspec/

The XT8 does show WiFi6:
https://www.asus.com/Networking-IoT-Servers/Whole-Home-Mesh-WiFi-System/ZenWiFi-WiFi-Systems/ASUS-ZenWiFi-AX-XT8-/techspec/

Different models for different countries?

If it helps with listing alternatives, I moved to eeros Pro for wifi
access points. The duet, controller and touch all work with them without
problem, which I was pleasantly surprised about. They are current mesh
systems. Not the latest eero 6 version but the previous.

Hi Paul,

I have the CT8. It is Wifi6 and the next iteration of the XT8. It is
essentially the same, almost exactly, except there is a 6GHz channel in
place of one of the two 5GHz channels the XT8 has. I am currently
experiencing the same issues with 2.4GHz band dropping clients on the
CT8 that I experienced with the XT8. I traded up because the hardware
is a year newer and was hoping this problem was gone, but alas it is
not. I'm going to try wlanpoke next. On a sidenote, if your media area
and office are wired for lan, then hopefully you can use wired backhaul
between the two units.

Re: [slim] ASUS ZenWifi AX (XT8) firmware upgrade disconnects my squeezeboxes

2021-07-28 Thread P Nelson

I am looking at possibly getting the ASUS ZenWifi (CT8) which provides a
mesh network, but is not WiFi6 like the XT8 version. From readings the
various threads on the SB Radio interference problem, the issue is
related to the Wifi 6 protocols. Anyone on the forums using the ASUS
ZenWifi (CT8) successfully with the SB Radios?

Any alternative suggestions? I want a two station mesh network, using
an ethernet backhaul, and I need at least 3 ethernet LAN ports on each
router/station for hardwire devices. I notice many of the mesh network
options (Orbi, google, etc.) they only have 1 or 2 LAN ports on the
stations. My view is since my media area and office is already wired
for ethernet I should use it over WiFi.

thanks,

Paul

Maybe my response was a bit misleading. I mentioned that I am no pi
hardware expert, and my comments were based largely on reading the heat
aspect of the 4 vs 3b+ discussed in the forum -> good case, or heat sink
it, not an issue.

My observation is not scientific at all. I used to have a 3b+ sitting on
my desk, now I have a 4. I stick my hand on the case, no noticeable
difference (but I am not A/B ing them :)

I have 4 pi systems I put together, 2 for me, 2 for friends - 3x 3b+
w/1GB, 1x 4 w/2GB

But these pi's rum only LMS and I don't pay any attention to them, I
only rescan when I get a new CD or download, etc.

Re: [slim] Compatible WLAN cards for SB3, Boom, Reciever & Transporter

2021-07-28 Thread MattRX

Sorry to revive an old thread, but the Aliexpress link above from
w3wilkes is still valid and I am listening to my boom with this very
card installed. Sorry as a first time poster I cannot link the URL.

The original card is stuck down with double sided tape and is hard to
remove. I ended up using a plastic pry bar (carefully).
After replacing the card and running the boom in pieces it worked
perfectly. Once I assembled my Boom I received a missing WiFi card
error.
Disassembled and wiggled the new card around a bit to clean the contacts
and stuck the new card in with double sided tape. So far so good.

While it was apart I scrubbed the sticky front panel, buttons and knob
in Methylated spirits. From what I had read I was expecting to have to
repaint the front panel, but the goopy layer was easy to remove and left
a lovely satin black panel and a gloss black knob.
