Just got hold of an Android device not long ago... I've setup an OpenVPN config file and installed the OpenVPN connect app, installed Orange Squeeze and Squeezeplayer, also installed Squeeze Ctrl and SB Player. I have both the remote control of Squeezboxes and playback working so far and they're all really nice. But, I am having a problem connecting to LMS when going thru the VPN. It seems Orange Squeeze and Squeeze Ctrl can't find/connect to the server. My OpenVPN connection says it's connected. I'm using another cell phone's wifi hotspot feature to connect my Android device to 'net, then turning on OVPN. Maybe once or twice OrangeSqueeze connected, but when I try browsing my albums, etc, it just says 'Loading' for so long I give up waiting. Playback, etc with iPeng continues to work pretty well thru the VPN. Any one use and Android device and OpenVPN while also getting remote playback working? Thanks! I think I've managed to get things working with OpenVPN. One thing that took the longest time to figure out was that I needed to download the Windows version of EasyRSA v3.0.0-rc2 zip from https://github.com/OpenVPN/easy-rsa/releases, instead of the zip from https://github.com/OpenVPN/easy-rsa. Didn't figure that out until I stumbled on a forum thread somewhere after Googling something. The OpenVPN Connect iOS app Help section also pointed out a few things I needed to know: 1) For iOS, Interface type has to be TUN 2) Easiest way for me to include the certs/keys in config is to copy/paste with header/footer, such as , etc. 3) Save that .ovpn config as UTF-8 I configured my router's OpenVPN server this way: VPN server Configuration>Basic > Start with WAN : Yes Interface Type : TUN Protocol : UDP Port : 1194 Firewall : Automatic Authorization Mode : TLS Extra HMAC-authorization : Disabled VPN subnet/netmask : 10.8.0.0/255.255.255.0 VPN Server Configuration>advanced : Poll Interval : 0 Push LAN to Clients : Yes Direct clients to redirect internet traffic : Yes Respond to DNS : Yes Advertise DNS to clients : Yes Encryption cipher : AES-256-CBC Compression : Adaptive TLS Renegotiation Time : -1 Manage client-specific options : Yes Allow Client<->Client : Yes I tested by running the OpenVPN client on my Win7 laptop and connected to router's OpenVPN server by using the router's local IP (192.168.1.x) in the config file. As for the iOS device, I don't see an OpenVPN section in Settings-->General-->VPN. It's an old iPhone 3GS a friend gave me to use as a wifi only device, so it's stuck on iOS 6. Do I need to put something like the OpenVPN Connect app https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/openvpn-connect/id590379981?mt=8 on it? [slim] Help me set up VPN for remote playback w/ iPeng etc
I've just setup my router, LMS, and iPeng for playback from outside my network. I'm forwarding ports on my router and only managed to setup user/password for security. For that reason I don't actually use it much, I only turn on the forwarding when I head over to a friend's house, etc., where I know I'll probably use it. I'd like to setup VPN but have no experience doing so. I have an Asus router running a Shibby build of Tomato firmware. In the VPN Tunneling section there are OpenVPN Server, OpenVPN Client, PPTP Server, PPTP Client, PPTP Online options. Which do I setup if any, and how? Can anyone help me, or point me to a guide? Re: [slim] Get rid of the 'No Album' album?
Thanks for the tip guys. I find it wierd that SqueezeCenter must put single tracks in an album when they don't belong to one. If I'm looking in 'Albums', I'm looking for just that...full albums. I can look under 'Artists' if I wanted to look for everything by an artist. [slim] Get rid of the 'No Album' album?
I'm not sure if this has to do w/ tagging or settings so I'll post it in this forum. I have a bunch of tunes that aren't full albums and are tagged simply w/ Artist and Title for the most part. They're in 2 or 3 folders or so. Is there a way to not have an album called 'No Album' show up? Changing a setting or two winds up with the 'No Album' album being by either Various Artists or all the artists, but it still exists. Must I tag each of those files w/ an album name in order to solve this or is there another solution? I just want the 'No Album' album not to show up when browsing by Artist or Album. Also, until recently I'd browse by Music Folder whenever I used the web interface so I'm not sure if this is new or always was the case. I've been using my SB2 happily for a while now and all of a sudden it keeps disconnecting from both Squeezecenter/Squeezenetwork. I repeatedly have to go through the network setup (without making any changes) to reconnect. Looking at the 'Current Settings', everything looks correct...MAC, IP, SSID, etc all look right. I noticed one thing I never noticed before, when connected to SC the SB's IP shows up as the one given by my router (using Static DHCP) but when connected to SN it shows up as my router's external IP. Don't know if that's new or has always been the case. Also no changes have been made anywhere, router config, nothing. [slim] Re: Slimserver not playing .m4a tracks ??
I've had this problem, or something like it, with Slimserver. Tech support had me d/l an older version of mov123.exe at, http://svn.slimdevices.com/*checkout*/trunk/server/Bin/MSWin32-x86-multi-thread/mov123.exe?rev=235. And had me edit convert.conf so that the line [mov123] $FILE$ | [flac] -cs --totally-silent --compression-level-0 --endian big --sign signed --channels 2 --bps 16 --sample-rate 44100 - would have '--endian big' replaced with '--endian little'. That solved my problem. Only thing is that I've had to do that (replace mov123.exe and edit convert.conf) anytime I re/install Slimserver. As long as it works, I don't mind. I thought about one of the better ones, but I'm not ready to plop down a couple hundred bucks on a remote. [slim] Re: Decent Universal Remote
Nah, just the price. In order to get discrete on/off/etc codes and pc programming you'd have to get one of their more expensive models. They're really good but cost so dang much! Actually, the MX-500 could be programmed using an IRClone-Mx and its software, but they're almost impossible to find and the website is long gone. I've 'taught' mine the button codes from the Slim's remote since it wasn't in the list of pre-programmed codes. I think the codes for a JVC DVD player were supposed to work, if I remember correctly. Haven't tried it though. Looks like you're headed for a Harmony, just thought I'd mention the URC one more time. For $50, it can do whatever you need. -- 808htfan 808htfan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1298 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28639 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

You can easily program macros to accomplish a bunch of steps like that, but you'd have to assume the components are in a certain state...on, off, etc. Still quite workable, with maybe a couple extra button pushes here and there. -- 808htfan 808htfan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1298 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28639 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

That URC MX-500 is a great remote. URC, www.universalremote.com, has a similar one I bought from Amazon for what I think is an amazingly cheap $50. Does everything the MX-500 does but has just 5 LCD buttons compared to 10. Each device can have up to 8 pages of them, though (= 40 extra custom labeled buttons). It also can take a while to set up as it's not computer programmable. But it's gotta be the best $50 remote out there... The URC-200 link at Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00067R5XW/ref=pd_cp_e_title/103-3399858-9563821?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=172282. A great detailed review at Remotecentral, http://www.remotecentral.com/urcseries/index.html. Review of the MX-500, http://www.remotecentral.com/mx500/index.html. [slim] Re: Turn off artwork in 6.5?
More about my original question, I now see that there is no 'Do not look for artwork' option anywhere. All I want is to browse my Music Folder --> click one of the folders I have in there --> and see the list of files in there without having some album's pic at the top of the list. Is that not possible? It used to be. [slim] Turn off artwork in 6.5?
I just upgraded to 6.5 from 6.3.1. I seem to have forgotten how to turn off artwork. Wasn't there a 'do not look for artwork' or something like that in 'performance' or 'behavior' or somewhere? Have I gone blind...has that setting been moved somewhere? I can't find it. [slim] Re: SS cuts off last 10 seconds of song...
I just experienced a similar problem with an mp3. Using SS 6.2.2's web interface I added a few mp3s to be played. The rest of the songs played fine, but with one particular song, the last few (10 or so) secs get chopped off at the same place every time. The odd thing is that if I clear the list and add just that song alone, it plays fine. Any ideas? -- 808htfan 808htfan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1298 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=22016 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
