[slim] Re: Slim Devices Misses The Boat
Personally I found that setting up Slimserver and my SB3 was a lot easier than, for example, setting up my living room DVD recorder. Ipods and equivalent music players are so widespread now, even amongst non tech savvy types, I'd be surprised if there were many Squeezebox purchasers that lack a way of ripping music to their PCs. I must admit that I was a little surprised at the lack of a CD in the box. I think if Squeezeboxes were more readily available across the counter in high street shops, then a CD with at the very least a stable Slimserver build on it would be essential just to get people up and running. It would be interesting to know what are the features that draw people to the Squeezebox. For example, my wife loves the fact that it is wireless, looks good and has an interface she finds easy to navigate. I love the fact that it is quiet, plays everything I throw at it and has good sound quality. There's a market of people more like my wife out there, that could so easily be tapped if things were just fractionally simpler to setup. -- Fuseball Fuseball's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5776 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25168 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Looks like it'll need replacing though. Bracing myself for a weekend using CDs again. ;) Your SB3 is definitely exhibiting similar behaviour to mine, with the obvious exception of my remote receiver not functioning. Thanks for the suggestions. Just tried both those reset procedures. Unfortunately it still wouldn't recognise anything from the remote, so holding down those buttons did nothing at all. The sound is coming through fine after a night of being disconnected from the power though. Looks like it might be a serious overheating issue to me. It's hot in the UK at the moment, but still considerably less than should cause the unit to overheat. It's in a well ventilated spot with no other electrical equipment around it. However, it does display the more severe symptoms (display blanking and white noise) after being left on for a while (anything from a few minutes to an hour). The mac address is fine. Just checked it via my router's diagnostics. And the screen has blanked again. Oh well... -- Fuseball Fuseball's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5776 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25220 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

danco Wrote: Blank display could be a couple of things, including your having set the display to Off in standby. If your remote is working (I agree there may be a fault there), then instead of disconnecting and reconnecting power, you can press *and hold* the On/Off button on the remote until you get the setup screen. Then there is usually no need to go through the whole setup procedure, use of the Up and Down buttons gives an option to connect to a specific address (192.168.1.12 in my case). The standby mode is the clock with a brightness of 2. I tried resetting with the held On/Off button but the lack of remote response stopped that working. To be honest I've not had any problems with it connecting to the server, even when the display blanked on me. -- Fuseball Fuseball's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5776 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25220 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

It is possible this was partially dislodged in transit and heating/cooling cycles pushed it out just enough to make it not work. Your best bet is to contact support tomorrow (since today is a holiday in the US), and confirm that. They may (depending on your comfort level) step you through checking and/or fixing that or just tell you to swap it with the retailer. Something very similar happened with my Rotel CD player when I first had it - intermittent strange behaviour from a loose ribbon cable. I'll give support a call tomorrow. I've taken a couple of Powerbooks to pieces before now so I'm not too terrified of opening up the Squeezebox. :) -- Fuseball Fuseball's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5776 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25220 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Okay, bit of a grim development. Getting a wall of white noise and distortion coming out of the SB3 now. Not good. :( Looks like a potentially costly return to the (online) retailer. Fingers crossed that customer service counts for something. -- Fuseball Fuseball's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5776 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25220 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: First sec of song getting clipped off
Just got my SB3. Lovely bit of kit, but I'm getting the same problem with it clipping the first second of each track. This is happening with AAC and MP3 tracks, not just FLAC. Sure hope they get this fixed, although I don't know that it's necessarily related to bug 1434. cepheid Wrote: On another thread, there seems to be disagreement about this at least as it relates to ALAC decoding. It would appear that the FLAC bug and the ALAC bug are separate (though they may be related). Fuseball, this is the first I've heard of it happening with AAC and MP3... however, you are aware those are not designed for gapless playback, right? You're absolutely right. MP3 playback is fine. I foolishly saw the a 192 bitrate and assumed it was an MP3 I was playing! It's just AAC that is causing me a problem, which is unfortunate as my entire CD collection was ripped as AAC a couple of years ago. Reading that other thread and the associated bug report makes me think that I must have the same problem as they describe. Anything being decoded by the mov123 decoder skips the first half second of the track.
