[slim] HELP - SB3 Hangs After Firmware Upgrade!

2007-10-20 Thread John151

I used my SB3 for the first time in several months, and it immediately
downloaded a firmware upgrade. The unit "hung" after the automatic
reboot, requiring me to unplug and plug in again. After the unplug,
the unit works fine, but will hang periodically. The Information tab
shows "Player Firmware Version: 28", and "Player Model: squeezebox 2".

I definitely have a SB3, so I am afraid that something is wrong with my
firmware. Can I force a firmware update to a different version? Any
advice will be greatly appreciated!

Re: [slim] HELP - SB3 Hangs After Firmware Upgrade!

2007-10-20 Thread John151

I upgraded the server software. The new version of slimserver required
me to upgrade the firmware again. This resulted in Version 81, and it
now shows that I have a SB3. Weird.

[slim] SB3 Cutting Out While Playing Apple Lossless Files

2008-01-03 Thread John151

All of a sudden, my SB3 cuts out while playing m4a files. Everything
was fine a few days ago.

Here is my set up:

Player: SB3, ethernet connection.
Server: Mac Mini, Intel Duo Core, 2 Ghz, 2 Gig Ram, connected via WiFi
(connection appears to be very fast, no issues with intenet). CPU
monitors show little to no load on the system. No significant software
running on the server.

Problem started on Slim Server 6.5.4, so I upgraded to Squeeze Center,
and upgraded the player. No change.

I have rebooted several times, but to no avail.

MP3 files play fine, and FLAC files play fine from a Windows server
(ethernet connection).

To my knowledge, nothing has changed on the Mac Mini since betwen the
SB3 working fine, and the SB3 not playing m4a files.

Any ideas?

Re: [slim] SB3 Cutting Out While Playing Apple Lossless Files

2008-01-04 Thread John151

The player is displaying "NOW PLAYING (REBUFFERING 0%).

Does this indicate the source of the problem? Are there any parameters
that I can tweak to solve the problem? Or, is the issue with my
network?

Anyone?

Re: [slim] SB3 Cutting Out While Playing Apple Lossless Files

2008-01-04 Thread John151

Eric - I believe you are correct in that the problem lies in the WiFi
connection between the Mac and the router. The problems has gone away,
at least for now, and I can now once again play lossless files. I am
watching the "Network monitor" as I play lossless files, and can
clearly see when the player is buffering the music. The graphs goes
from nearly idle to maxed out. I think that something was interfering
with the network speed for a few days, causing the buffering to fail to
keep up.

Longer term, the Mac will be tethered to the router via Cat 5, but not
until I get everything moved from the the PC (Windows XP) to the Mac.
The reason for moving to the Mac is I am so tired of having PC
problems, so I was freaking out when the Mac was having problems. So
far, I love this little dynamo!
