Now that Roku (Pinnacle) have halved the price of their Soundbridge radio, I've bought one for the kitchen. Although it will run Slim Server, it comes up really ugly on the screen. I've read the Roku forum which suggests using their Firefly Server for iTunes. It's much snappier than Slim Server and looks the business. My question is, will there be any long term problem with running two servers for the same music directory, assuming I have sufficient bandwidth? [slim] Slow Transporter
I am trying out a Transporter, using ethernet. I have encountered two problems so far. After playing for about 45 minutes, the sound disappeared, but the VU meters were still moving showing signal. I couldn't get sound back and had to unplug the mains and restart the Transporter. This happened twice, the second time after only a few minutes of playing. Also I noticed a couple of albums playing slow. Not ridiculously slow, but definitely out of time. At first I thought there was a problem server end so I rebooted and re-ripped the album. It sounded fine. Then I noticed it on another album. I stopped the track, skipped to another album, then went back and it was back up to speed. Such goings on never happened with my sb3. What's happening. [slim] Another wireless & lan question
The house is arranged with the wireless router in a cupboard upstairs, the slim server is in the cellar and the sb3 is on the ground floor. It all works perfectly as a wlan. But in order to get the slim server to wake-on-lan (WOL) it has to be connected to a lan by an ethernet cable. I cannot get an ethernet cable from the router to the slim server in the cellar. The slim server does not fit into the same cupboard as the router. And there isn't a phone line for the router in the cellar. I can get an ethernet cable from the slim server to the sb3. As connected up at present I get streaming from the slim server to the sb3 and WOL using ethernet but no internet radio. Or if using Wlan, I get streaming and internet radio but no WOL. Is there any other way of connecting it up bearing in mind the constraints of my house.
