[slim] How to go from digital optical output to XLR digital input?
I have a device that outputs digital audio via optical, and I need to go into a device that takes an AES3/EBU (XLR) digital input. I'm listening to Radioio on a Squeezebox. I've paid for the audiophile channels. [slim] Arg. Hard Drive disaster wreaking havoc (Internet radio, favorites, etc)
I had all my music stored on an external hard drive, which just failed... I had it backed up, so I will hopefully be able to restore my music library, but this failure seems to be wreaking havoc on other parts of Squeeze Center. I had Squeeze Center installed on my C Drive, which is still working fine. So why can't I connect to RadioIO or Live365 anymore? Re: [slim] Why did my album art stop working properly?
Argh... I tried dividing up my library into smaller pieces and scanning them in separately to see if I could locate any problem files. No luck. For any given piece, the artwork loads fine. Perhaps I have some problem files. I tried limiting the scan to certain subdirectories, and those work fine. Just not my entire Music directory. [slim] Why did my album art stop working properly?
My album art had been working properly, but recently stopped working for no identifiable reason. My album folders show up with question marks on them. (If I click on the album folder and go into it, then I can see the album art.) And similarly, when I run Moose, I can no longer browse by cover art. I can't figure out what I did wrong. I was editing some of the files with Tag&Rename, embedding art into the .m4a files in an effort to get them to show up in Moose (which didn't work). That's when it stopped working. I tried clearing the browser's cache and turning off my anti-virus, then re-scanning - no luck. I'm on Windows XP Pro. Most of the album folders have a folder.jpg and/or .folder.png file in them. Some of the songs have the album art embedded as tags as well. Any ideas? thanks, Mike -- Mike Anderson 'FREE RADICAL RADIO!' (http://nvo.com/cd) Hours of free radical MP3s. [slim] Help save Internet radio
Sign the petition here: http://www.savethestreams.org/ "On Friday March 2nd, the U.S. government (specifically, the Copyright Royalty Board, or "CRB") announced its determination of the royalty rates Internet radio webcasters must pay the owners of sound recording copyrights to license the music they play for the years 2006-2010. The owners of these sound recording copyrights are, in the vast majority of cases, recording companies ("labels"). While successful webcasters which have built loyal audiences can usually cover most of their costs from their revenue (and sometimes even make a little profit), these new rates will almost certainly destroy the Internet radio industry, as they amount to well over 100% of even the most-successful webcasters' online radio revenues. In other words, these fees are grotesquely disproportionate to any other expense a webcaster would normally face, and certain to bankrupt him or her." -- Mike Anderson 'FREE RADICAL RADIO!' Based on my own preferences, and from what little I know about other computer users: I think you guys REALLY REALLY need a slick, responsive, clean-running GUI along the lines of the iTunes software. For example, the ability to drag and drop songs to make playlists. A slider to forward or rewind through the song. Something that doesn't have to refresh. Etc. Aha, thanks for the links, I knew those threads were out there somewhere. However, one thing that's still unclear to me: Is the Transporter's hardware capable of doing this (i.e. is it just a matter of a firmware update)? I know one of the posters makes that assumption based on Sean Adams' post, but it isn't obvious to me that this conclusion necessarily follows from the statement he made. If Slim Devices says, "Yes, the hardware will allow for it, and yes, a firmware upgrade to do this is in the foreseeable future," I'll order a Transporter tomorrow. ^^^ Yeah, that's sort of where I am with it too. I can't hear any clipping, so I guess I'll forget about it. [slim] Re: Can't use SB at full volume?
^^^ Alright, I take that back again! It's possible to isolate the input signal, and according to the Behringer, it IS in fact clipping. I don't -think- I can hear it clipping audibly (as long as I take a few dbs off the output signal); but that that's what it says. Any more insight in this? [slim] Re: Can't use SB at full volume?
OK, I see the problem now. It's not the input signal. Even though the meter measures the input signal, it -also- hits red if the output signal clips. So setting the gain offset to take off about 7db definitely solves the problem. -- Mike Anderson 'FREE RADICAL RADIO!' (http://nvo.com/cd) Hours of free radical MP3s. According to the Behringer's manual, the meter measures the level of the input signal, not the post-processed signal. crooner Wrote: > Perhaps its the analog stages after DA conversion that are "too hot" and > clip the signal... As far as I know, the Behringer isn't (at least I hope it isn't) doing any conversion to analog. I'm taking the digital signal in, EQ'ing it, and taking a digital signal out. I bought it specifically because I wanted to keep the signal processing in the digital domain and convert it to analog later. The "clipping" is the volume meter on the Behringer going into the red. I -think- it's clipping audibly, but I can't tell if it's the Behringer or something down the line. -- Mike Anderson 'FREE RADICAL RADIO!' (http://nvo.com/cd) Hours of free radical MP3s. ^^^ My signal is going from the SB2 into the Behringer before going to the pre-amp. At 40, the signal is too hot for the Behringer. -- Mike Anderson 'FREE RADICAL RADIO!' [slim] Can't use SB at full volume?
Some claim that if you don't play the SB at full volume (40), you're losing sound quality. I'd like to know if that's true, because when I run my SB2 at full volume it is too hot for the device receiving the signal (Behringer DEQ2496), and I seem to get clipping, at least as displayed on the Behringer meter (it goes into the red). Thus I have to turn the SB volume down to 35-37 to avoid clipping. Is it true that I'm losing sound quality by using the SB at volume 35 as compared with 40? It tends to sound better at 40 (at least when there's no clipping) but I can't tell if it's just because it's louder. BTW, I'm using the SB2 with optical digical output, Slimserver 6.2.2 and firmware version 33. -- Mike Anderson 'FREE RADICAL RADIO!' (http://nvo.com/cd) Hours of free radical MP3s. I know I've seen this problem mentioned elsewhere, but I can't find the thread now. This problem just started out of the blue. If I use the web interface to Slimserver and click on "Browse Artist", some (but not all) of the artists are listed twice. Any clues?
