But none of us will be "cool enough" to really enjoy that "CD sound". Re: [slim] SqueezeBox player (not controller) for Windows 10
The foobar2000 Mobile app works, but it's also limited to stereo. If you select a surround (5.1) track, it briefly puts up a message box complaining about 6 channel audio. That's a complete Intel x86 touch computer with a 9" screen for just over $200 Canadian. It connect via HDMI, so I can use it to send any audio/video to my home theatre. Once you nuke the useless Android install and get back the wasted disk space, it works very well. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01C8XMF6I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Given that, I can play music and video very well. With things like foobar2000 I can even play surround music. But foobar2000 doesn't have much of a touch interface like SqueezePlay, but it also isn't restricted to stereo. So, I'm looking for something with a nice touch interface that will allow me to browse my music library (LMS, Asset UPNP or foo_upnp) and play back lossless music (gapless is required). SqueezePlay does most of that but won't play surround sound. RonM wrote: > Yep, SqueezePlay works well for me. I use it on my Surface 4 (comes > with Win10). It's in the Mediafire builds. Thanks go out to Nomen and Ron. SqueezePlay works well and seems to do most of what I need. It doesn't seem to work well if the PC is in tablet mode, but in normal mode it works well. Of course, it can only serve up what LMS makes available, so any surround music is clipped back to just L&R. But most of my surround music also has a stereo copy, so this isn't the worst problem in the world. [slim] SqueezeBox player (not controller) for Windows 10
I picked up an inexpensive Windows 10 system (just over $200 with a tiny wireless keyboard). This has an Intel processor so I can run any Windows 10 software on it. I have it hooked up to my home theatre using HDMI, so it can play anything up to 7.1 channels 192 kHz 24 bit. I have tested it with foobar2000 for audio and used the built in video player and it all works very nicely. But what I'm looking for now is a good audio player (not controller) that will connect to my local LMS and allow me to play anything. foobar2000 works nicely, but the UPNP browser component (foo_upnp) is pretty plain (OK, very plain). Since I will only be playing music on this system I don't need all the fancy stuff in foobar2000. I'd like to find something that works similar to my Touch, but on Windows 10. Any ideas? Re: [slim] Intel Compute Stick
I don't think the Compute Stick is available yet. IIRC the release data is May 25th (but it's been a while). But I do like the idea. Silly me. I was looking for that setting on the player, not on the server. I'd certainly buy a Touch with HDMI and full multi-channel support! I've read about two programs Dvd-a explorer and dvd-a > extractor. Which one is the easiest to use? Any settings I need to be > aware of? I have the squeezebox Touch. I've just been doing some testing of this and here are some conclusions: 1) If you convert the multichannel DVD-Audio to FLAC, you Touch will only play the left and right channels. All other channels are ignored (try playing a channel identification track [ you know: Front Left, Center, Front Right, Surround Right, Surround Left, Subwoofer ] and you'll clearly hear this. 2) If you convert to WMA Lossless it will play some tracks, but also seems to die on other tracks (limited testing, but the first MC track I tried failed). If you do get a track to play, it will output sound for all of the source channels. However, the output is stereo only, so you won't get back any surround effects, even if you enable Dolby PL-IIx decoding. If they had taken the C, SR, SL channels and mixed them into FR and FL using the PL-IIx encoding matrix, most mutilchannel receivers would do a fair job of resurecting the original multichannel mix. But at least you do get output from all 6 source channels (if it works). Anyone else interested in multichannel?
