Re: [slim] BBC online radio fiasco - comments, news, moans, campaigns

2015-03-16 Thread Nojelc

Like lots of others I have been very confused by all this. While my
original BBC4 saved Favorite did stop working with a lovely repeated
message that this shoutcast styream has been discontinued or some
such, I did find another stream which did work, but only sort of. On my
Recievers it continually stuttered and rebuffered, on my Radio it worked
better.

However as of this morning live BBC4 is now streaming flawlessly again
on both Radio and Reciever, so far, crossed fingers,

I am using this stream : BBC Radio 4 93.5 (National News) with this url

[slim] Syncronising multiple copies of my music

2011-10-23 Thread Nojelc

I have 2 Windows 7 PCs plus a Vortexbox holding my music and running SBS
in 2 locations. I also have my music files backed up on 2 USB drives.

What is the easiest way to keep all the files syncronised? Copying new
music to all the locations is simple enough but I get myself a bit
mixed up when I have an MP3Tag tagging session, and I would like to
have a simple way of replicating my changes across all my copies.

Any suggestions?

Re: [slim] Auto starting SBS and squeezeplay

2011-04-26 Thread Nojelc

Thanks pski, just what I wanted.

As an aside it makes we wonder why SbS does not come with a Player as
standard. I would have thought it would be a reasonable common
requirement to play audio from the PC you run SbS on, controlling
output from the web interface.

When I purchased my Vortexbox (VBA) it came with an integral player.

Not sure what you mean by Windows Services.

I am starting SbS by having Startup at Logon selected in the Control
Panel. I am starting squeezeplay by having a shortcut to in the Startup
folder.

Somehow I just want to delay the startup of Squeezeplay by a minute or
so.

[slim] Auto starting SBS and squeezeplay

2011-04-23 Thread Nojelc

Just been setting things up in my second/holiday home. I normally use 2
Duets, but here I have the PC running SBS right by my audio so I have
been trying out Squeezeplay. I want to be able to just power up the PC
and then be able to select music from the Controller as soon as it is
up and running. To achieve this I have got both SBS and squeezeplay
auto starting. The problem is that squeezeplay gets up and running
sooner than SBS, and being unable to find a server does not connect.
When SBS is up and running later I have to frig around with the
controller to get the player connected. If however I manually start
squeezeplay after SBS is started it just works.

So the question is can I delay the auto start of squeezeplay until SBS
is up?

Re: [slim] VortexBox 1.4 released today

2010-06-04 Thread Nojelc

Vortexbox is a Linux based operating system that you can download free
and run on any old PC that you have making it a dedicated music server.
It incorporates SBS.

A Vortexbox device is a low power PC that comes preloaded with
Vortexbox operating system. I have one, it works great, I just leave it
on 24/7

If you want more info go to the Vortexbox Website

Re: [slim] powered speakers

2009-05-26 Thread Nojelc

Another vote for the Aego M from me. They are excellent value for money
at about £100. See all the reviews here
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SP-000-AEtool=3

Quad do some at about £500 a pair if you want proper audiophile quality
http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/3859

But the Aego Ms are good enough for me.
