Re: [slim] Slimserver Problems running on Windows Vista

2007-02-16 Thread RDaneel

I'm having trouble, too. Running Vista Home Premium 32 bit, 6.5.1,
(11206 release). When I have the Windows Firewall on, the sb3 will
never connect to the slimserver, no matter what IP or DHCP settings I
use. It will work with internet radio just fine, so I know the network
is ok. With the firewall off, no problems at all. Even with port 9000
whitelisted, it still won't connect. Had no problems with the Win XP
firewall running the same exact setup.

Seems like conflict between Slim and the Vista security, I'd love to
have a patch or workaround so I can get the firewall turned back on!

Ben, I was happy to see your comments in the 2006OS thread about the
sticky toolbar setting and the change to the browser behavior. Good
news!

However, I also noticed your comments about the 6.5 problems. What is
the stable 6.5 build that you recommend? I was about to update to a
july build (I've been using 5-2-06 and am having playlist disappearance
issues), but am holding off for now...

Thanks, as always, for all your hard work!

D'oh - I hate to post a need help message - especially considering the
fact that the skin worked perfectly to constol SoftSqueeze before my SB3
arrived... but...

I'm using the 4/15 build, and while I can pick a song with the 770, the
now playing sceen simply says playlist for this player is empty. I've
checked and made sure that the 770 is looking at the right ip (I set up
a static IP for the machine with slimserver), and the playlist screen
correctly lists all the songs in the playlist (same as the slimserver
page when viewed through the pc), but I have no now playing image or
controls. What's even more odd is that the album art image and song
details come up in the playlist list when I click the song, and I can
switch tracks with the play icon on the detail view - but then it kicks
to the now playing screen and the empty error message comes up again.

Any ideas, Ben or others???

Thanks!

Awesome, atlslim - thanks for making me feel less crazy. How would I
revert to r6927 to fix this? Is that an older nightly? I can see that
6863 is the 4/9/06 nightly, but I don't know how to get any older than
that... Thanks for your help!

It is a good window on your feelings about IE. Why does it have to be

It's been a while since this thread surfaced. I hope Ben's doing ok and
has a chance to come back to this project! I'm really enjoying the
skin, and everyone that has seen the 770 as a remote control has been
blown away...

Thanks for the update, Ben! For standard 770 users, do you recommend
moving to the new build? It seems like the real improvement will be
with the AJAX update... I just don't like to mess around with
different 6.5s once I have one working perfectly!

Whoa, the SB3 can be used as an IR blaster, too??? I didn't know that.
THIS is interesting... I'll check out your software, Felix, thanks. Do
you have a link to more information?

[slim] Re: Nokia 770 Slimserver- Any regrets?

2006-02-09 Thread RDaneel

It's hard for me to answer this question - as I don't have a SqueezeBox
yet! My SB3 is out being modded before arriving, so all my experience
with the 770 is with SoftSqueeze.

So far, though, it's a killer app for the 770. I agree that snappier
performance would be nice (I have the newest firmware, which is good,
but it's not desktop speed, of course) for loading. However, that is a
relatively minor nit - it is still FAR faster to use this interface than
the OEM remote. Plus, it looks awesome and the 770 makes a fun toy in
other ways...

I highly recommend jumping on this combo. If fuzzyT is right, things
are only going to get better! I run WPA encryption, so offloading to
the DSP would be awesome.

I'm trying to track down an answer to a question posed by biomech on p.2
of this thread. He was having (using WinXP) 403 errors crop up on the
770 when trying to use the skin. After 3 hours of using the 770, I
haven't been able to figure out a solution. So far I've just replaced
the nokia web icon with a SB3 and installed 6.5, so I'm not doing too
badly...

Any suggestions on fixing the 403 error that complains about the
/cauth/ issue? Thanks!

Ben - thanks so much for all your continuing hard work. I don't even
have my SB3 yet, or my Nokia 770, but your software is clearly what I
want and have been hoping for for a long time!

Anyway, quick n00b question to the group - as someone with 6.2 running
on my server now (though I haven't even put a SB3 on my network), so I
simply uninstall it completely and download a daily .exe windows
installer of 6.5b and run it? Is that all I need to do to get set up
with 6.5 and Ben's skin? I'm just not clear if the 770 skin is
preloaded and what I'll need to do to make it work on the 770 itself...
Is there a FAQ or any setup tips? Sorry, I searched the forum and
didn't find a good answer specific to the Nokia device...

Thanks!

Awesome, Ben, thanks again. This skin is clearly the reason I'm buying
a 770, and was a factor in the decision to go with the SB3 as well!
All the Sonance folks should see this before paying for that
system...
