[slim] Excessive buffering and tracks that wont play

2009-10-12 Thread RussT

I have a good set-up I think :-). I run a Squeezebox Boom and a Duet
connected to my amplifier. I also have a QNAP Network Attached Storage
device which has Squeezecentre installed and all my music on it. The
music is stored in an iTunes Music folder. I back-up/copy my desktop
iTunes folders once a week to the NAS. I have noticed a couple of
problems however and was wondering if anyone has any pointers.

1) Some of the music does not play. Initially I thought it was DRM
related as it seemed to be only albums I had purchased via iTunes but I
have noticed it with other albums as well which I have ripped from CD's
I own?

2) When playing the radio it interupts and buffers quite regularly. I
have checked the network settings on the Wiki against my ISP's Netgear
router and they seem fine but it still does it?

I would appreciate anyone cleverer than me offer a few words of advice
:-)

Re: [slim] Excessive buffering and tracks that wont play

2009-10-12 Thread RussT

I thought the the files which wouldnt play were only the ones I had
purchased and downloaded from iTunes but now its both them and ones
which I ripped via Itunes but others which were ripped via iTunes play
so there does not seem to be any ryhme or reason. When I try to play one
it comes up on the controller or iPeng on my iPhone and then just wont
respond to the play normally when you select a track or album it
automatically starts playing...

Also the internet radio keeps buffering... and cutting out and I dont
know why?

Thanks for your help

[slim] Whats the best network attached storage?

2009-09-30 Thread RussT

I have a Squeezebox Boom and a receiver attached to my Amplifier and I
want to add network attached storage to put my music on, currently I use
the MP3 Locker, I have seen the QNAP range from Ripcaster who install
Squeezecenter for you but it seems quite expensive in comparison with
say Amazon. On Amazon you can get a Buffalo NAS 1TB for £120 and the
QNAP 320GB with Squeezecenter is £260. For someone not really technical
is it hard to install Squeezecentre on any old NAS device?

Thanks for your help

Re: [slim] Whats the best network attached storage?

2009-09-30 Thread RussT

Thanks, To answer your questions

Do you have to transcode or are you only using formats that are native
to a squeezebox. - I dont think so all the music files are MP3

Do you use hirez material ( again transcoding ) - dont think so I have
no idea what it is :-)

Is the WEB-UI important for you (performance hog) - not nessacarily but
I woudl need some form of easy to us UI

Do you have a very large collection. - about 12-15GB

Many players ? 2 currently but I can see more being added over time
probably Squeezebox booms

Music IP ?? Not sure what you mean by this?

Do you use a lot of plugins, some of them use some cpu - I dont think
so I mainly listen to Internet radio
