Re: [slim] ReplayGain manual adjustment

2009-11-24 Thread ShadowWar

I've been wondering about asking this question for a while: is it
possible to implement a ReplayGain offset value anywhere? All my tracks
with ReplayGain are quite a lot quieter than those without. It would be
great if it was possible to boost the volume level by a particular
offset value of all tracks with ReplayGain, without having to manually
change every single track's value in Foobar.

OK, try this then: Dabs are offering an SBC for £120.53 inc. of VAT.
They don't give any indication of the number available, but they are in
stock:

Re: [slim] SB3 - replacement PSU / remote?

2009-09-29 Thread ShadowWar

My SB3 power supply ceased functioning a couple of weeks ago: I replaced
it with a standard Maplin 5V switch-mode PSU. It was about £20 for one
with interchangeable tips, and I believe it can produce an output
current of about 4A. If you want I'll check the details when I get home
in a few hours.

[slim] Redesigned Logitech web site

2009-09-24 Thread ShadowWar

Bit of a warning really: the home page now has a massive Flash interface
- it's all very pretty but not very swift to get round. The interface is
inconsistent as well: some pages have pop-up product descriptions and
others change the view entirely to the high-lighted product. Some views
scroll from side-to-side, and others are static or require you to click
on arrows at the side to change to sub-pages.
When you actually get to the Squeezebox page (sorry WiFi Music
Players), you need to scroll a long way to the right to get to see all
products. You can narrow the view, but the options for doing this are a
little odd: show all products which are Mac compatible? Linux
compatible? Funny, I don't see any hiding themselves!
I just get the feeling this is not going to display on my phone.
Oh, and the developers have left an obvious bug for IE8 users (but not
Firefox) - not that I've tested anything else - the Support drop-down
menu at the top of the page doesn't work: the two menu options (Product
Support / Contact Us) are permanently displayed in the same location as
the word "Support".
Not quite a triumph then.

Separate note: I want the Radio! Now! In red, preferably. Will they be
available in the UK?

Re: [slim] SqueezeBox Power On Issue - Constantly Trying to Connect to Suspended SC

2008-09-11 Thread ShadowWar

Further to my previous post, 7.2 installed new firmware. I think this
may have been the problem in combination with the non-functioning
plugins; however, dropping the firmware back down to the previous
version made no difference, and I'm now running f/w 112 with the old
build of 7.2 (nightly, that is). Ultimately, I think the resolution is
to install an old nightly build or 7.1, then check your plugins are
up-to-date (or disabled). Then update to 7.2 stable or newer.

Re: [slim] SqueezeBox Power On Issue - Constantly Trying to Connect to Suspended SC

2008-09-11 Thread ShadowWar

I had the same problem when In installed a nightly build of 7.3. I went
back to the stable 7.2 but had the same problem, then eventually
reverted further back to the last nightly build of 7.2 I'd been
previously running. In my case I think it may have related to some
plugins which weren't updated for the new screen size for Squeezebox
Boom. I was running an older version of Michael Herger's
MusicInfoScreen, and SuperDateTime as my "off" display. Haven't
advanced back up to 7.2 stable yet, but I may do that at the weekend.

Re: [slim] Nintendo DS Lite Browser as Interface

2008-02-20 Thread ShadowWar

I agree with zingerhill and thing-fish: slow, but just about usable with
handheld skin. The DS has a very nice toggle between Overview (1 screen
shows a zoomed in view of the other) and SSR (Small Screen Rendering)
which is useful. However, the nature of the SlimServer / SqueezeCenter
interface is there's a lot to display and it means you will have to
scroll around quite a lot. One of the problems is the add-on cartridge
which fits in the GBA slot only contains 10MB of RAM - you constantly
have to let the DS Browser clear its cache. I'm waiting for the Duet
Controller...

P.S. Methane: if you're interested - Hotmail will not work.

Re: [slim] Release 7.0 advantages? and when?

2008-01-22 Thread ShadowWar

It's been a while, just thought I'd report back..

Seems that the problem with Firefox on my set up was Flashblock - much
quicker once localhost and 127.0.0.1 are added to Flashblock's white
list. Still a bit slower than 6.5.5, but that's to be expected.

Jim, I've got definite speed problems as well, but only on the new
interface. Switch to classic and it's fine. PC's quite old (AMD 2.7GHz,
1GB RAM, Win XP Pro SP2) but doesn't have too many speed problems
otherwise. I was playing back an album encoded with FLAC on my SB3 the
other night and started to Firefox to browse SqueezeCenter - instantly
playback became choppy and was so bad that it pretty much paused until
after SqueezeCenter had finished displaying the graphics. The interface
takes between 1 and 2 minutes to start and then maybe 30s to 1 min to
display anything whenever I click a link. I'm running this on
localhost, port 9000 (i.e. nothing strange). The build of SC's from
about a week or ten days ago. One possibility I'm yet to test is
another browser, or disabling ZoneAlarm in case that's causing
problems. Both Firefox and the SlimServer EXE file (slim.exe?) run at
high CPU for the time that the browser is loading each page. Can anyone
comment please?

Mike
