I abstain. What I want is the ability to interact with my collection in a variety of ways. Read most of the posts and can see many different futures ahead for SD and Logitech but to my mind the most likely is that Logitech will create a good or perhaps very good music device - with a much larger market. Slim Devices had the chance to create a GREAT music device - with a much smaller market. As much as the Logitech folks might like to think of themselves as a company they are not, they will, in the end, be driven by a passion for the bottom line and not a passion for musical excellence. A company their size has no choice. During this transition we will read all the perfectly crafted messages stating how involved Logitech will remain in the current community, and how dedicated they are to the SqueezeBox. This is not a knock on Logitech as they are obligated so say such things in our modern corporate culture. I only hope they can come to this table and be honest about their corporate responsibities, which must come first as the nature of reality in the corporate world, and not pretend to be able to attend to the existing audio community established here, let alone be willing. The two directions are simply at cross purposes and cannot exist in a company of that size. I would also assume that this forum will change radically as well. Again, out of necessity. Nightly builds will disappear, as they must. A more consumer friendly product (or many) will surface very shortly and the transporter seems VERY out of place in a world of consumer driven products, can't see how it can survive. I won't bid a farewell as of yet but it will come soon enough, and to that end i would like to thank all of the people here who have made the SB such a great device and most of all to the community that has a added lot to my knowledge in a kind and courteous way. [slim] Re: A slicker UI for SlimServer?
I think I understand why a browser based UI was chosen (cross platform compatible, network friendly, portable, yadda yadda). And for many applications, a web UI is good enough. Unfortunately all of these browser interfaces suffer from =seriously= rudimentary file management ability... and while some advanced web-based file management features do exist, they tend to be platform dependant. No drag and drop. No multiple item selection/actions (check boxed lists are a poor hack) No contextual actions available off of individual items (i.e. right click or hover options). In addition... they waste valuable screen real estate with unnecessary internet nav chrome, consistently have cache, screen refresh, and/or cookie problems... the list goes on. If foobar had the ability to communicate directly with Slimserver, I'd use it in a heartbeat over the web UI. It may not be sexy... but at least it allows you to manage multiple files the right way. y. -- Yannzola ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] FF/REW Enhancements ...?
In addition to automatically displaying the now playing screen w/ the remaining time and progress bar on pressing FF of REW, I think another helpful and intuitive feature would be for the x4,x8,x12 speeds to ramp up automatically similiary to how the volume , or title scrolling currently works on hold. Most MP3 and CD players work this way... On button release, the player could either automatically start playing (similiar to a CD Player) or it could continue as it does now, until Play,Pause,or the opposite scanning direction button is pressed (similiar to some MP3 players and most video players). Perhaps this could be user configurable? Or perhaps the two could be rooled into one... where tapping the FF button skips 20 secs forward, and REW skips 5 sec back and resumes play automatically. Holding down the same FF/REW for longer than x seconds (user selectable?) would begin the automatic ramping described above. [slim] Re: The SB2 appears to have some serious flaws!
I'm sorry if I'm mistaken... but isn't there already a Favorites plugin available for streams? I use it all the time ( for shoutcast at least...). Would something similiar (applied universally) help to solve this problem? What if this functionality was accessible from =any= track now playing, using the current Favorites plugin interface convention (right arrow to toggle add/remove)?. No extra buttons would be needed on the remote, the extra functionality would be contextually tied to the song currently playing via the directional arrows. Once you've got all your Favorites picked, a playlist is created which you could rename (via remote, if possible???) and save. However, my =favorite= idea mentioned so far involves implementing some form of ratings system... This would be great! The ratings info could be written to a tracks ID metadata... in fact I think RATING is already an unofficial tag. Perhaps Ratings could even replace zapped and favorites all together... songs you =really= don't like are rated *, your favorites , etc. All of these ratings create their own playlists, each containing the songs of that particular rating an instance of any of these lists could be Saved as a renamed playlist (similiar to the current Zapped list behaves )Now what would be super cool would be if actions could then be performed on these playlists... for instance Never play songs rated * or Only play songs rated y. -- Yannzola ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
