Re: [slim] Warning: Linksys WRT110 Rangeplus Wireless Router & Squeezebox
My WRTG54 died several months ago and I replaced it with the WRT110. I had all manner of problems with it. Most annoying was that occasionally none of the devices connected to it (either wirelessly or wired) could talk to any other of the devices, nor the internet. Only cyclying the power on the router would correct this, and then only for a short while. I systematically worked the problem until I hit on the answer for me. Please, just make SlimServer reliable. My Squeezebox experience falls far short of what I think it should be considering what I paid for two SB3s. And the blame belongs to SlimServer. I would happily buy at least two more SB3s, except that I'm sick of wrestling with SlimServer issues. I don't use iTunes, I don't use MusicIP or any of what I would call the more "exotic" plug-ins. Until Slim Devices can pair their hardware with a server solution that's on par with the quality of the SqueezeBox, I consider the Squeezebox a very poor value. -- byKnight Really, it was like that when I got here. byKnight's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7011 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32917 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: Fail to connect SB3 to w/less router
I was getting the same message when I setup my 2nd SB3 (my first wireless SB) a couple of evenings ago. I also use WEP. (I'd rather use WPA, but I have a device on my network that uses a LinkSys wga54g wireless game adapter that I had lying around; it doesn't support WPA, just WEP.) I fixed the problem after reading the following on the troubleshooting FAQ (http://faq.slimdevices.com/index.php?sid=16862&lang=en&action=artikel&cat=2&id=14&artlang=en) > Ensure that you're using the first key in the router's setup if it lets > you specify multiple keys My router (LinkSys WRT54G) has you enter a "passphrase" from which it generates four different WEP keys. I had it set to use the third one in the list, and had my other wireless devices set up with the same hex string. When I reconfigured the router to use the first hex string in the list, updated the configuration of my other devices likewise, and put that hex string into the SB3, all was well. -- byKnight Really, it was like that when I got here. byKnight's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7011 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30819 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I don't know anything about the SB firmware, but based on what I can infer about its function, my first idea was that a small firmware change could be made that remaps the way the display hardware is addressed. For example, if the display is m pixels wide and n pixels high, pixel (0,0) maps to (m,n), (1,0) maps to (m-1,n), etc. But since we don't have access to the firmware, I can only fiddle with the SlimServer code. But for something as straightforward as making the display work upside-down, a firmware option seems like the most efficient option. -- byKnight Really, it was like that when I got here. byKnight's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7011 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30745 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Flip display for kitchen installation
I want to install an SB3 under a kitchen cabinet. To keep it as unobtrusive as possible, I'd like to mount it upside-down, which would allow me to hide about 1.25 inches of the total height of the unit in the recess at the bottom of the cabinet. I've found this older thread involving an SB2. http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=15633&highlight=%22flip+display%22 This sounds like a perfect solution for software, but I'm not aware of an existing cabability (and I don't know if such functionality would need to be in the firmware or could be implemented in SlimServer). So, have I overlooked an existing software solution for this? And if I haven't, is the display in the SB3 connected in such a way that would allow me to turn it over without the use of a soldering iron? -- byKnight Really, it was like that when I got here. byKnight's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7011 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=30745 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
