[slim] Custom Cases for Squeezebox3?

2006-03-31 Thread doundounba

Hi all,

So I was wondering - how "hackable" is the Squeezebox 3 from a "custom
case" perspective? Been thinking of starting a project for either my
SliMP3 or a brand new Squeezebox. It's pretty obvious that I can make
a custom plexiglass panel for my SliMP3 and simply unscrew it from its
current L-shaped panel and screw it into the new panel, with no other
hardware mods necessary. And its very small size make it easy to fit
into many types of enclosures.

But what about the Squeezebox3? How does it disassemble? What are the
parts? Any internals pics available on the Web? Anyone already made
some custom cases for it? All I've found so far are SliMP3 or
Squeezebox 1 or 2 custom case projects...

Any info/pointers greatly appreciated!

[slim] Re: Custom Cases for Squeezebox3?

2006-04-02 Thread doundounba

Well, thanks for the info JJZolx - much appreciated. Guess it looks
like I might be hunting for a Squeezebox 2 on Ebay for a while... BTW,
what I'm thinking of trying is putting my SliMP3 (or a Squeezebox),
possibly including some speakers, into a nice vintage radio case...

Maybe I would be - if only I had an SB3! ;)

Thanks for the offer though.

[slim] Squeezebox Publicity Sighting...

2007-11-24 Thread doundounba

A big electronics retailer in the province of Quebec (Dumoulin) had a
large publicity catalog insert in one of the major newspapers here in
Montreal (La Presse) today. On p. 27, there's a Logitech corner, with
three items: Harmony H550, H1000 and the Squeezebox (3). A tad on the
expensive side at $CAN368.88, but that's typical for this kind of
place, I guess...

As for me, I want a sale! My two Slimp3s (!) are getting a little
old... Can't wait for a Jive-powered product to show up!

Re: [slim] SB4: The 'Duet' is here

2008-01-05 Thread doundounba

So... This product looks good!

I do wish they'd make another combo available (at less than the sum of
the individual prices): { SB3 + new controller } for maybe... $500?

At $299, the controller does seem a little expensive compared to, say,
an N800, but I'd probably want one...

They do have to start somewhere, but AFAICT, it's not true that anyone
is free to extend the current solution. There's a thread on licensing
on the Jive Dev forum discussing the licensing on the Jive SDK -
basically the license prevents people from redistributing any code
changes. This means you're unlikely to see the same kind of
community-based development on the Jive stuff as you saw on the
slimserver code. In particular, you're very unlikely to see community
ports to the N800 or iPhone. Possibly some commercial dev might enter
into an agreement with Logitech to do a port and sell us client
software...

Re: [slim] Logitech Branding

2007-03-28 Thread doundounba

For those who care (not really me), the latest 6.5.2 now includes the
Logitech logo. In point of fact, the file
"html/images/slimdevices_logo.gif" *just* has the Logitech logo - no
mention of Slim Devices.

Re: [slim] Where does everyone buy their online music from?

2007-05-25 Thread doundounba

Count me in as another happy eMusic customer. First subscribed when it
was unlimited. Then they switched their model, and I still stayed on.
Eventually I did get "download fatigue". You have X downloads per
month, and if you don't use them, you loose them. After a while it
started taking longer and longer to find stuff I liked and wanted. I
dropped out for about a year, and came back on a little over a year ago
(before the latest price hike). Still happy right now.

I also occasionally shop at place like Calabash Music and bluetracks.ca
when I can't find stuff on eMusic (e.g. French group Lo'Jo). Been
keeping an eye on puretracks.com, but so far their MP3 selection has
been a little disappointing (and I don't buy wma).
