+1. It took me all of 10 seconds to notice the difference between FLAC
and Mp3 when I first got my SB many moons ago, but took months to rerip
400-500 albums into FLAC.

Like stated previously, if you need to make an Mp3 copy of something it
doesn't really take that much time to do and storage is super cheap

there's no announcement on the squeezebox saying it lost the connection.
the music just stops. it's not the brightness. i've tried holding down

i've only noticed the Squeezenetwork unable to find the player once.
firmware was updated to 6.5.1 nightly more than a month ago. connection
varies from about 60% - 85%.

this has only just started becoming a problem recently. like the last
week or so

[slim] cloaking sound waves

2008-06-21 Thread drewe181

A few days ago I came across a small article in a recent newspaper about
using "meta-materials" to cloak sound waves much in the same way as
making something visual invisible. If this process was employed in
speaker design would it prevent sound waves from bouncing around inside
the cabinet? Would it mean the end of acoustic tiles and other room
treatments? Imagine the possibilities!

[slim] moodlab dac possible grounding problem

2008-07-12 Thread drewe181

i just purchased some dnm reson interconnects to connect my moodlab dac
to a burson buffer. when connected (even when bypassing the buffer), a
humming noise can be heard from the speakers. using other interconnects
-even an el cheapo variety- i do not have this problem. i have
connected the dnm's from the buffer to the amp and there isn't any
humming so i know that it is the dac-buffer/amp connection that is the
problem. would it be a grounding issue or a cable shielding issue? any
ideas on how to fix this problem?
thanks in advance

[slim] strange problem with non existent shortcut

2007-08-13 Thread drewe181

Here's the problem: a few days ago I placed a shortcut in my music
folder as I wanted to listen to some music that was stored on another
drive, but have since transferred the files and deleted the shortcut.
Yet, slimserver still aknowledges the music that the shortcut pointed
to. I have searched through all my music folders in case the shortcut
was playing 'hide and seek' but it just doesn't exist anymore.
Why is this happening and how can I fix it?
I upgraded to 6.5.2 since I could, and have cleared my playlist many,
many, (many) times over but still get the same result. It's bugging the
bejeezus out of me.

thanks in advance

[slim] Price Difference

2008-01-12 Thread drewe181

okay, so i just noticed that for people such as myself who live in
australia, we now have to purchase SB's through the logitech website
which charges more than $100AU more than through the slim devices
website. whats the deal with that?
I'm now looking at paying $599AU for the duet instead of around $447
if purchased from this site.
this seems a little steep and since i have not been hit with import tax
from the SB i purchased years ago, i don't see how the increase can be
justified.

Re: [slim] Logitech Branding

2007-03-31 Thread drewe181

call me naive but i don't see why, like record companies, logitech
couldn't realistically have slim devices as a branch of themselves.
keeping the branding on the products as it is etc. worst case, having
both logos on the packaging just to comfort the consumer (maybe that
answers my question) with a known name. personally, i'm not a fan of
the logitech logo due to aesthetics.

Unfortunately, i find that the name 'logitech' applies to run of the
mill products, something that the SB and TP definitely aren't.

I guess that's why there's the need to re-brand everything with the new
logo. A tool to bolster the image of a company who have predominately
made their name selling keyboards and other computer perhiphials(sp?).
