[slim] playlists, itunes, etc.

2008-12-25 Thread egizzi

Hi-

I am running squeezecenter (sc) 7.3.1 on my basement server running os
x 10.5.

I has 3 squeezeboxes, sb1 and sb2 flavors.

I'm finding the playlist features of sc to be very limited. Maybe it's
me. I've also installed slimfx and don't find the playlist features to
be very useful as well. I've installed erlund's sql playlist stuff as
well and it didn't do what I want.

Maybe it's me. All I want is to be able to do what you can do in
itunes:have a pane with a list of playlists and drag and drop
individual songs of my choice into any playlist I want. If I can do
that using the web interface for squeezecenter or slimfx, then please
tell me how. It just seems like I have to be constantly maintaining the
now playing playlist but since I'm trying to dynamically add songs by
listening to a collection of songs, I don't see how I can listen to a
song first and then decide if I want to keep it in a playlist or not.
At least I can't figure it out.

So I thought I would use itunes to make and manage my playlists. All I
want is for itunes to see the existing library on my server. It seems
to want to move files around which I am hesitant to do since I remember
a long way back that it could screw things up for slimserver. I've
changed the location for the itunes libary, but nothing is happening:
no list of music appears when I click on the library - music icon in
the left pane of itunes.

I really could use some guidance here... my goal for the day was to
make a large playlist for a party we're having tomorrow and I haven't
gotten anywhere.

$40

Seemed like a fair price

[slim] SB1 Not updating firmware

2008-12-14 Thread egizzi

Hi- I just bought a used wired SB1 at a garage sale, looks great,
basically unused. I'm running squeezecenter 7.3.

It connects fine (sees the server, gets the right addresses, etc.).
Then the problem begins:

1) It asks for firmware update
2) I hold down brightness for a few seconds
3) It jumpts to the Now Playing screen and is frozen. It never enters
the screen where the firmware updates
4) Then I unplug it and start over. Same thing.

Ideas?

Thanks

Installed it

It updated firmware fine

Re-installed 7.3

It works fine.

Thanks!

Still in original box, remote in plastic bag, ethernet cable still with
wire-ties, no scuffs, etc. Owner said they won it at some event a few
years ago and never used it.

[slim] OS X tiger cannot see server

2006-12-03 Thread egizzi

I have a powerbook running os x tiger 10.4.7. When I ran panther, I
could see my server running slimserver fine. The browser accessed
slimserver via http://gizmonet:9000

When I upgraded to tiger, I lost all access to the server. The server
is running debian sarge.

Now when I enter http://gizmonet:9000 i end up at
http://gizmonet.blogspot.com

If I try to ssh in, I enter a password (it never asks me for which
account), and the password always fails. I have another computer
(windows 2000) running wired connection to my network and it can see
slimserver fine, and I can log into the server via ssh.

The powerbook cannot see the server whether it is connected wirelessly
or wired to the network. The powerbook does connect to part of the
network though because I can successfully print using a network address
to my network printer.

I realize this may be beyond the scope of the slimserver forum, but any
help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

-Elio

[slim] connect sb2 to router

2006-02-26 Thread egizzi

Hi-

my wireless router is in my basement. my sb2 is on the second floor.
wireless signal is weak. i'd like to run an ethernet cable from the
basement router lan port to the sb2 (have open conduit to do this).

that will connect the sb2 to the wireless router via wired cable. but
i'd like to be able to surf from my laptop on the second floor
wirelessly. i believe that means the sb2 will have to act as a bridge.
yes?

do i need a crossover cable for this? thanks

[slim] Re: connect sb2 to router

2006-02-26 Thread egizzi

Well then what I'll do is run another wireless router up to the attic
and then connect the sb2 to that. Then I'll be able to use the sb2
wired and surf wirelessly upstairs. I thought it acted like an access
point, but I misunderstood the use of the term bridge. Thanks.
