[slim] SoftSqueeze...???
Do the new Logitech masters support SoftSqueeze, or a way to use a computer to emulate a slimdevice? I've had a SlimDevice since 2004 (the original slimdevice) and I've always been able to supplement the hardware by using a couple of network computers to distribute music throughout the house... but now with version 7.4 I can not find out how to configure it any more... has it gone the way way of "corporate greed"?... it has been a real challenge as a user to fight the user "friendly" interface. Now I can not find out how to get the the good old "Softsqueeze" to play nicely, am I looking in all of the wrong places? Thanks in advance... [slim] Re: Announce: SlimServer 6.1b1 and SqueezeNetwork Beta
Well I'm sure I went about the whole thing the wrong way... But it does illistrate a point. It was before work, so not a lot of time, I was signing up for the Squeezenetwork and needed the "Pin" (so I had not really signed up yet) I looked for the pin via the sever's web interface, could find anything like it... so I thought oh must be the "setting" on the SB2. So went to the living room to use the remote on the SB2. Found "setting" (BTW I had not downloaded or set up the 6.1b1, though I did have the 6.1 from some nightly build I guess) but I was just going to look for the "pin" - I thought that the pin might be in the SB2 firmware or something like a MAC address, burned in at manufacture time. So I found player info, but still not pin... there was something about squeezenetwork info so I press that button... so the SB2 starts updating firmware... interups the music - my wife is trying to listen to meditation music... I'm not ready for this... but there is no cancel buton on the remote. So I guess because I did not have the 6.1b1 installed when I signed off the network the SB2 didn't know where else to go. The remote needs somekind of OBVIOUS "oh hell I didn't mean that" button, I've run in to other problems like that where I wish I could just stop what is happening but there is no "stop" "cancel" or "go back" button (it is true that the right arrow preforms this function... BUT from a consumer products point of view, and from non-geek user prespective, the remote is not as "intuitive" as a toaster yet. A lot of hidden meaning. I understand that this is all beta stuff, so I'm not complaining, just passing on information about usibility. In addition the lack of a "stop" button means that when I turn things "off" at night and try to start a new playlist in the morning the buffer is still full of the previous playlist and I get some funky sounds - a sorta SB2 buffer re-mix. I would be nice to have a "clear" way to "stop" the player at night, not just "pause" it, clearing the buffer. So don't get me wrong I think this is a great system and I love my SB2 and I'm only trying to help. So I'll go back home tonight after beginning to peice all the infomation together and try installing every thing the correct way. But also no one answered Khuli's question, and I had the same question when I installed 6.1... can we install over the top of an older version, so should we uninstall then reinstall? -- glmason ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: Announce: SlimServer 6.1b1 and SqueezeNetwork Beta
Oh I guess I answered my own question, I had to unplug the SB2, and go through the setup menu again connect back to my wireless server, then the firmware updated again and then I was connected back to my server... I guess the network is not something that one causually gets into... It is not like, "oh I think I'll see what is on the network!" I guess I need to read about it before I try it again. I'm exchanging emails with Kevin, I'm not sure how to access the bugzilla, all I got was a page for reporting bugzilla bugs, not sure how to get into the slim server stuff; and I don't have a d_diag option on my debugging, do you mean d_server? -- glmason ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

No your not alone... shaboyi! I'm having the same problems with 6.1. I have no idea what is causing it to hang... but I have to restart the server servive often. -- glmason ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: SB2 playback freezes
I'm beginning to have very similar problems... I've had a SB2, Slimserver 6.0.2, and two compuers running Softsquezze for a mmonth and a half, other than getting over the learning curve and a few "dumb" mistakes on my part the system seemed to work very well for the first month or so, slowly creepying in now are very similar probelms as described above, coupled with the fact at the the display resently has started freezing up while the music plays fine... or the display gets behind the song, i.e. the song displayed has already played... It is funny because the system seems to degrade after time, but that is just a feeling. Also the display setting on the softsqueeze and one computer will not persist... i.e. I make a setting and if I have to restart the softsqueeze the setting is changed back to default. (This does not happed on the other softsqueeze). The second computer is an Athlon 1.8Ghz cpu with 224MB RAM - a cheap compaq deal from BestBuy - probabally nneds to be upgrade someday soon. And sync'ing works better since following the instructions, but is still not 100%. -- glmason ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Launching MusicMagic at startup
A note... Don't forget, that the api has more to do with song analysis and not that much to do with MM"Mixer"... I ask a similar question on the MM forum and found out that MMM does not have a fully "headless version" that runs on API services alone... to get the MM buttons and interfaces on the slim device that gui needs to be open... still doesn't make a whole lot of sence to me... but there you have it... for more check out the MMM forum. http://forums.predixis.com/index.php?showtopic=611 Larry -- glmason ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: softsqueeze sync problem
While it is not 100% constant, I get the same, .5 to 1 sec delay, it is always he softsqeeze that is ahead... sometimes it work great, alot of times I can get a song to sync up by pressing the relay [<<] button, that song syncs, but then the next one is out again. The radio is alway out... can be anywhere from 2 to five seconds. I'll try tonight with debugs turned on. [slim] Re: Duplicated Track Listings
I found out, the dups happen when you have two sources or two references to your music library, and one is a UNC reference (the only kind that works for Slimserver in mounting a network drive) so one song source is listed as \\server\path and the other as C:\path... once song are in the database even if the problem is corrected you will still have dups, see the related thread. http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=14501 I "wiped" the cache the old fashioned way, I stop the service, delete the file slimserversql.db in [Slimserver install directory]\cache\ and restarted the service and did a library scan. That fixed the problem. Hope that helps if any one else runs into this problem. -- glmason ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Duplicated Track Listings
This is happenning to me too, did you ever get an answer or a replay to this problem. Just the songs are duplicated, one song will have the MM button and the other will not... [slim] Re: Using Mapped Drive as Music Folder
I hate to bring this topic up again as I see that it has been addressed a lot... but this is a new question I think... I did all of the thing mentioned in posts and FAQ, I start the service from an my account, I set the slimserver to use a library by using UNC (\\myserver\medialibray) but when I start the service I don't get Web service to start correctly (or at all so it seems) and the softsqueeze that is on the same box as the server does not find the slimserver on the network. Is this normal? Thanks Larry -- glmason ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] I fixed my Live365 problem...
I unloaded it as a menu option and I canceled my account at Live365... and my frustration index took my blood pressure level back to normal. It is too bad though, my wife and I really like some of the audio chamnnels they offer; maybe it will come together someday. The irony is that I learned about and ultimatle purchased the Squeezebox2 because of the Live365.com website. It is to bad that the slimserver and Live365 connections are at war with each other. I'm a newbe at this, as you can probablly tell. I ordered my squeezebox2 Wednesday so I'm not gotten the hardware yet. But I have download slimserver6.0... love it... and set up two softsqeeze2s on the two computer systems in the house. I played hooky on Friday and spent the day gettting to know and love the slim devices systems. But there where a couple of bump on the audio hiway. Playlists. When I set up the location of my library and the "MyPlaylists" they were full of wpl lists (Microsh*t's Media Player) and they worked great out of the box (so to speak) until I editet one, then the whole system went to hell, It seems that the system can't handel a mix of wpl's and m3u's or so it seemed to me. I converted by hand all of my wpl's; I don't have a great big library so it was not too bad. In trying to use the create playlist functions on the server which is really set up to create playlists as the user listens to music, I found the task tedious, no (broswe functions for finding songs to add). It would be nice to have a play list management utility the work independent of the server, and worked with all play list formats. I suppose that is what MoodLogic is, but I found MoodLogic to expensive and I hate learing software that has most of its functions disabled and they "expect one to pay" what I thougt was a lot of money for unknowen functionality. But other than the Live365 connection problems with softsqeeze2 and the play lists thing, I think you software is great. I'm a User Interface and Interaction Designer, and I also have a lot of experience with database design and programming. So if I can help I'd be willing. I found your request for developers interested in helping, but (as an interesting user interface note) you did not provide any information on how to connact the development team. There is an email link that is for those who want to help translate... but not for the other tasks you mention.
