[slim] Problem after server update -- Port 9090 failed
Hi I run a SB classic on Vista. A server update got stuck this morning and now I can't open web control; I can't stream from spotify. The system still streams properly from my music folder. The diagnostics page on the diagnostics tab of the control panel says everything's fine except Port 9090 (CLI) has failed) Help -- this is the last time I'm going to upgrade! Re: [slim] How can I listen to my music in the garden?
I thought I would add a note about how this resolved itself -- just for the archive. The heart of the problem in a way was the ipod touch -- which wasn't good enough to pick up the wifi signals. In fact I now pick up streams , without any repeater, to about 100 feet away from the router, using a Roberts internet radio (which plays streams of FLAC files). I needed to install TVersity on my computer -- but it's easy to use and free. Either the ipod is poor at picking up wifi or the Roberts Radio is excellent or both. Searching via the Roberts radio is fine. -- howie.stone howie.stone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38137 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87094 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] NAS -- Basic Guidance Appreciated
Hi everyone Right now I'm using a S/B classic with all my music files stored on an external Samsung 1.5 TB Hard drive, with the S/B server running on my desktop computer. I'm thinking of changing to a NAS. But I have some basic questions. I. Is it a good idea? 2. Which brand (I can see there's an old thread which recommends Vortexbox) 3. How easy is it to set up? (I'm not really a techie) 4. How do you do backup? 5. Will I still be able to use the advanced search feature in the S/B server? 6. How does it all wire up? Wired link to the computer and wirelessly to the S/B? Cheers for any help Howie -- howie.stone howie.stone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38137 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88501 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

There are hundreds of these things! There doesn't seem to be any objective measure of their strength or their reliability. So it sounds like ipeng at least is seriously limited, and probably all the other apps for SB control too. What I want is to be able to enter a search which gives me as a result (eg) just those tracks with the string "richter" in the artist field AND the string "schubert" in the albium field AND the string "D960" in the track field. I can do this easily in sqeezebox server's advanced search. I can't so it in ipend. I was just wondering wether there was another app for the ipod where it can be done. Or indeed for an android tablet. The fact that it doesn't work with ipend is, for me, a major limitation f ipeng. I should have mentioned that I use a British Telecom Infinity Router -- I've heard it is one of the most powerful available in the UK. [slim] Can I use something like SB Server Advanced Search with my ipod touch?
I really want to use my ipod to get at my music. So far I've only tried iping. But there's a problem. I can't search for track, artist and album at the same time, like I can on the advanced search screen of the Squeezebox server. At least -- I haven't seen a way to do this yet with iping. This is important for me. [slim] How can I listen to my music in the garden?
It would be so nice to be able to do this. The obvious answer -- ipeng and an ipod touch-- won't work because my wireless network isn't strong enough. That would have been ideal because ipod docs are easy to take outside. I could use ethernet to wire a link -- using the electricity circuit to transmit the signal. I've never tried it but it should work. But -- there's no ethernet plug on the ipod or the ipad -- nor, as far as I can tell, on any android kit. The garden is about 80 feet from the wireless router.
