But today some features provided by third party plugins are a critical part of my music listening. I certainly wouldn't upgrade squeezeboxserver if the plugins wouldn't work, even if that means skipping a generation of logitech products. -- htrd Toby Dickenson Your last.fm profile mashed with eBay; www.exitahead.co.uk htrd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3710 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73698 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Receiver automatically connecting to SC
Aha! I think Ive identified the problem. I am using dhcp on the SBR, so the value of the lan_network_address setting shouldnt matter. The dhcp is working - the SBR uses the dhcp-assigned IP address - but it seems to have some unexpected effect on SC autodetection. I believe the factory default showed as empty in Net-UDAP. SC will fail to detect the SBR in that state, or if lan_network_address is now set to 0.0.0.0. But everything works if setting it to an arbitrary non-zero address such as 192.168.99.99 -- htrd Toby Dickenson Your last.fm profile mashed with eBay; www.exitahead.co.uk htrd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3710 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66823 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Receiver automatically connecting to SC
Thanks for your suggestions so far. The SBR is definitely connected to the wireless router over wifi. When the blue light is on it can be pinged, and discovered by Net::UDAP. The SBR address is assigned with DHCP, but the SBR has a static server address set. It happens to be on the same power strip as SC because this is one node in the whole-house setup which will provide music at the computer desk. Anyway, Ive made some progress It does connect (blue changes to white) when SC starts if the SBR is wired to the same network switch as SC. To summarise: Wired: * can be pinged * SBR will connect to SC when SBR is booted * SBR will connect to SC when SC is booted Wireless: * can be pinged * SBR will connect to SC when SBR is booted * no connection when SC is booted So there must be something about SC's player discovery that doesnt like my wifi. I would prefer to go wireless, so debugging continues. -- htrd Toby Dickenson Your last.fm profile mashed with eBay; www.exitahead.co.uk htrd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3710 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66823 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Receiver automatically connecting to SC
I've just bought my first receiver (I'm a very happy SB3 user) without a controller. I think it's configured correctly, using Net::UDAP. It certainly -can- connect to squeezecenter, and plays as expected once connected, but it doesn't always connect automatically. In particular if I power up the computer and receiver at the same time (from the same power switch), the receiver finishes booting before squeezecenter has started. The receiver remains stuck on the blue light, which means "waiting to connect to a music source". I can force it to connect by power cycling it (after squeezecenter is fully booted), or using Net:UDAP to reset it. But surely there must be a better way. What am I missing? What exactly is it waiting for? -- htrd Toby Dickenson Search eBay for music matching your last.fm profile; www.exitahead.co.uk htrd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3710 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=66823 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Product Longevity
>From what I understand about this process, it is not enough to show that many SB3s are still running after 3 years. A retailer has no responsibility to replace a product that has simply reached the end of its life, even if the life of your particular SB3 is shorter than average. You would need to show that the failure was due to a latent fault present at purchase, or that the SB3 lacked the expected durability. So a better question to ask here might be whether anyone who bought an SB3 thought it was an investment that should last many years, or whether they thought it might reach its normal end of life within a few years? -- htrd Toby Dickenson Search eBay for music matching your last.fm profile; www.exitahead.co.uk htrd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3710 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64114 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

But, here I am anyway MrSinatra;313887 Wrote: > > its the rules that are the problem. the reason it is silly, is b/c it > assumes that any album with a single TPE1 mismatch is a VA / comp > album. that is ludicrous. You've made that statement several times in this thread. I assume the logic behind your statement is obvious to you, but it leaves me quite puzzled. Could you give some background please? What tags do you have? How did you get those tags? Why do those tags seem sensible to you? Why do you find the current logic ludicrous? The current behaviour seems quite logical to me. In views which are broken down first by artist then by album I can choose to have these albums (albums with tracks with different artists) listed multiple times (under each artist) or once (under the "Various Artists" umbrella). (The "guest artists" scenario described by Philip Meyer allows me to have it listed once, under the primary artist. Thats even better for those who can be bothered to set the funny tags.) I believe these are synonymous: 1. any album with a TPE1 mismatch 2. an album with tracks with different artists 3. an album with "various artists" -- htrd Toby Dickenson Search eBay for music matching your last.fm profile; www.exitahead.co.uk htrd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3710 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=47297 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Linux-compatible USB FM radio?
Ive been using a radioshark for offline recording. http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/radioshark/ Software support in linux was tricky to get started. I needed to compile the small application used for setting frequencies, which needed a very new version of libhid from subversion. A quick google suggests this hasnt improved. Once set up it has been largely problem-free. It provides an ordinary ALSA input device which I have been using to record scheduled broadcasts using arecord, scheduled by cron. All very tidy. The only inconvenience is that the reception quality does seem to be quite sensitive to position. A couple of times it has been accidentally pushed against the wall at the back of the desk, and the reception really suffers. But maybe any other FM radio in the same position would have the same problem. I am sampling at 48kHz and encoding as mp3, and audio quality is as good as I expect. Stereo FM broadcasts are band limited to 15kHz, and this ALSA input shows significant noise above that frequency. I noticed a worthwhile improvement in file size by configuring lame's lowpass filter at 15kHz. I hope that helps. -- htrd htrd's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3710 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35059 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
