29056 For my classical music collection, ARTIST is the composer of a track. If there is a recital by, say a pianist of many composers, I use the pianist's name as ALBUM ARTIST, and also label each track with the composer of the track as the ARTIST. My problem is that (see attached) even if all tracks are by the same composer, if I also put in an ALBUM ARTIST, SBS only lists the album under the ALBUM ARTIST. How do I also get it listed under ARTIST? So, the above album is only listed under Takahashi, and not Feldman. [slim] Using Transporter as a clock
I would like to use one of the windows on my transporter as a clock (or preferably display SuperDateTime) in all modes--playing, paused, off-- but have been unable to figure out how to do this. I was using InformationScreen, but it was never satisfactory. I turned it off, and it will not turn on again :-( One of the choices in the Basic Settings screen is Extended text display, but I don't know where to set that. I held the + button while plugging it in. When it started, it said "out of decoder memory" and still will not play. I tried upgrading Transporter2 to the latest nightly, and now it is dead also!. Reverting to its previous install did not fix it. Where do we get old nightlies from? I was listening to music and my Transporter rebooted itself. Now when I press Play, the track never starts playing. I put one of my old Squeezeboxes there, and it plays, so it's not the network or the server. Once I saw a message flash by about "not enough decoder memory." Is there any way I can diagnose or fix this? I ripped a Blu-Ray DVD to a 96kHz, 16-bit PCM file. It "plays" on Transporter in the sense that the progress bar moves, but no sound comes out. The same file plays properly in my Subsonic server. How do I adjust things so that it plays on my LMS also? But before that, I did 320kbps mp3 and am in the process of reripping

Issues with the upgrade: 1. When I upgrade my server software, it forgets all the settings on my Squeeze devices (I have 7 of them). It is particularly annoying to have to redo the menu items every time, especially because the interface is so very sucky. Why can't the menu items scroll? I.e., when an item is at the bottom, why won't the down arrow put it at the top? Or better yet allow drag and drop to rearrange them? 2. On OS X Lion, the preferences pane said there was an upgrade available, but after 2 tries, it did not install. 3. Why change the server name yet again? This caused me to uninstall the old version on my Linux machine, which might have killed the preferences in #1 above. But in /etc/init.d, it still seems to be called squeezeboxserver. I spent some time looking for a different name... 4. It would be really good to give us some instructions on how to take advantage of mew features, and what they are. The release notes are useless for this. Like what is MOG? What does Connect to Logitech media Server do? If the squeezeboxserver is now exposed as a Media Server, What hardware/software can I use to access it this way? Do I need to open new firewall ports? On my Web browser--Chrome 12. I start filling in the box, and it disappears as I type. If I have a password set, SoftSqueeze does not seem to need a password to access music on the server. I tried using my dynamic dns address (from home, so it goes out the router and back in I think). I am tunneling 9000 and 3483 also, and using ssh keys. I connect, but softsqueeze goes beserk, constantly (apparently) losing the connection. It is the latest server 7.5.1 in Linux. I found 3.8 from SourceForge. I get the same results. The problem is running two SoftSqueezes (from different machines) at once. If I turn the one on my desktop off, the laptop one works through the tunnel. If the desktop one is also on, both go beserk. I looked at the release notes, and the e-mail from Logitech. I am still at a loss of what to do with the new menu items. They certainly seem inappropriate for my squeezeboxes. Why would I want to use FaceBook? The default menu items should be different for the different squeeze devices. I do two things with my squeezeboxes and Controller: I listen to my ripped music and I listen to Internet radio. So why do I need a MyApps menu item to listen to radioio? It should be on the Internet Radio menu item. Why can't I move it? Why can't I add stations to Internet Radio? This then forces me to also add Favorites to my top menu. With 7.4, you have managed to make it totally unintuitive to do anything with my squeezebox. 1) Why is radioio now under MyApps instead of Internet Radio? How do I move it back? 2) XM Radio which finally was working is now broken again. 3) Changing the name os the server for the third time to something really long is bad. What was wrong with SqueezeServer? Now I must type rcsqueezeboxserver start on my linux machine. Too hard to type! And too hard to remember. Why don't you have a page that explains the logic for these updates, what has changed, and how to use this again? [slim] Poor performance on my Mac
I have two SqueezeCenters (I hate the new name BTW--much harder to remember and type). One is on my 8-core MacPro with 8 GB memory. The other is on my quad core SUSE 10.3 machine. My library is on an internal drive on each machine. The Mac server is a dog. It takes 5-10 seconds to respond to commands to play new music. As a result, I often hit the button's twice and get things screwed up. For example, SoftSqueeze running on the Mac is faster by far connecting to the Linux machine, rather that the server on the same machine. Ditto for remote SqueezeBoxes. Why? DNS is fine. Should not be needed for local access either. I am getting timeouts waiting for weather information for the Weather Date Time and SuperDateTime plugins. But they are just every 5 minutes. [slim] How to save a playlist?
In the 7.0 Web interface, I see no way to save a playlist. I can add things to the current playlist, but cannot save them the way I did in the old versions. I should be able to get a pop-up box that lets me give the playlist a name, and then puts it into my playlists directory. Am I blind? In the old GUI there was a way to add an internet stream to the playlists. I can't find it on the new GUI. The station is playing, but there is no + button on the web interface. Pressing the icon seems to just add it again in the right pane, and not in the left one on the playlists. I am running on a Mac, and I think I own the folders. The plugins folder is certainly in my area and owned by me. So is Playlist and Music. By default, Leopard turns off the firewall and allows any incoming connections! If you turn it on, SlimServer will not work. But I cannot find any way in their GUI either under Sharing or under Security to open a port, or to specify UDP or TCP! I think we will have to configure ipfw manually. The two choices have disappeared from my SqueezeBoxes. Your plugin still not working properly. My servers are working because I can use either with my Soft Squeezes, or if I switch the SqueezeBoxes using the Web page. Scanning still does not work on either server machine. Any ideas? I tried rebuilding 6.5.3 this morning and it now works.
But, it is getting to be a pain to keep having to patch the Buttons
module to fix the problems with the screen saver. It does not go back
to standby if an album is palyed through to the end. This was fixed in
Bugzilla, but the patch has not been incorporated into even 6.5.3.
Please put this in!!

[slim] 6.5.2 indexing problems
I often have trouble finding albums that I have ripped. The attached pic is of Samuel Barber's Cello Concerto. I have checked its mp3 tags multiple times--they are right. I can find the album on the Web page as illustrated. But if I go into Artists on my SqueezeBox or SoftSqueeze, and navigate to Barber, Samuel, it is not there! I reindex my library (32769 songs)every night, and it still does not appear. I spoke with the radioio engineer, Greg. They are aware of the problem, but are baffled. It works for some people, but not for others. It works for Greg on his SqueezeBox. Is does not work for me. It does not work in ITunes for me either. It does work using the WMP streams in WMP or WinAmp. Greg looks at this forum, so if anyone has an idea, post it. [slim] Order of tracks
I have an album that spans two CDs. I wanted to put then into the same folder, so I carefully changed the track numbers of CD2 to start at 14, the first track after CD1. But when Slimserver indexes them, it always plays tracks 14-21 first and then starts at 1. How do I change this? What determines the order of the tracks? http://wnychi.streamguys.com:80/ is supposed to be 128 kbps mp3. It buffers but will not play in SoftSqueeze. It does work in SqueezeBox. I ripped a new recording of Mahler's 2nd Symphony using WinAmp. The mp3 tracks play fine in WinAmp. SlimServer 6.51 sees them, I can select the tracks, but if I try and play them, the elapsed time does not increase, the vu bars are dead, and there is no sound. The other albums I ripped at the same time work just fine. Actually, it seems to be related to using the forward button in SoftSqueeze 3.21. Once I do it, the track does not play. For some albums, the first track plays, but not the others. WinAmp plays them perfectly. User slimserver owns the directory and all the tracks. My tracks are all mp3s, so what are they being transcoded to? Lots of log file and a bunch of plugins. But the plugins should not do anything when I play a CD. I have alien BBC, XM, WeatherTime, and the ones that came with it. [slim] stuttering at the start of each track
I complained about this before, and no one ever answered it. I am now running 6.5 in SUSE 10.1. When I play many pieces, there is a stutter a second or two into the start of each track. The same tracks play flawlessly in WinAmp. What causes this? Is there a way to fix this? It is VERY annoying. [slim] screensaver settings
I have data and time selected for my screensaver when not playing or off. This used to work nicely for me. But in 6.3.1 and 6.5a1, it no longer goes to these settings when it has finished playing an album. I use Now Playing (jump back on wake) for the screensaver when playing. So, I never see the data and time displayed unless I actually turn my squeezebox or softsqueeze off. If I try to stream to WinAmp, it always stops after each song, and always misses the start of the song. And if I try to stream something like AlienBBC, it does not work at all. I am confused about what pause is supposed to do. If I am playing something and want to stop it temporarily, and then resume it, I would like to hit pause, and then hit it again to resume playback later from where I started. But when I do this (his pause again), it only seems to play the current track and then stops. If I hit Play, it starts the selection over again. Or, if it is a radio feed, it plays the buffer and stops. Maybe this is related to the fact that I have my slim set to display Now Playing. I had an album with a typo in the mp3 tag. The artist was Tchaikovsky, Peter I. with extra spaces before the I. After a scan I was only able to see an entry for Tchaikovsky, Peter I., and the album (18 Pieces) was not listed. But I was able to find and play the album with a search for 18 Pieces. I edited the mp3 tags to remove the extra spaces and asked slimserver to reindex the playing selection, but it is still not listed under artists or albums. 1) How do I find out where Slimserver put it? 2) It sure would be nice if the search returned what Slimserver thought the album and artist were! 3) It would also be nice if one could browse to an album and ask slimserver to index just that album. I have 130 GB of mp3 files, and reindexing it all takes forever.
