I have found that Spotify is actually saving me money as I used to buy
Cd's without being able to
preview them .

Now if I only really really like the cd do I purchase it . There are
many albums that simply
Aren't that good all the way through.

I'm waiting for my Auralic Aries Streamer to arrive the end of June.

I will give everyone a small review of this device when I get it and
have played with it for about a week.

We will see if it's any good.

I have an old Niles speaker selector box that can turn on speakers
throughout the house from one source. The house is wired in almost every
room so I do not need
a multi room unit. Just one.

I can't wait to get the Aries .I think they will do a really good job
with this streamer . I will attach to a benchmark or nad m51,maybe my

I would agree that Tidal's audio quality is not quite as good as a
ripped cd on your computer .

But it sounds significantly better then Spotify . I have to tell you I
wonder if Spotify isn't cheating premium users with a fair amount of
stuff that's not encoded at 320 . It seems to me that recently their
audio quality has suffered .

Only a few show whether using ipeng, squeeze pad or orangesqueeze .

Here's a photo of the cutoff . If I press the blank areas an artist will

Well I'm not sure but Auralic will be adding mytuner radio service
within the next month I believe . You can check mytuner to see if the
streams are there at the bitrate
you want . You can also add the url of any radio station if it's
possible . I don't know if that's possible with BBC .

By the way , Radio stations play flawlessly .

The Aries is not a Dac, just a streamer so you have to connect it to a
dac . USB sounds best on the Aries IMO .

All I can tell you is the Auralic is far superior in audio quality
feeding the same dac then either a Transporter or Touch . You can say
Bits are bits but the difference is significant . The Touch is very
grainy compared to the Aries .

I prefer the Transporter to the touch for Audio quality fed into the

I wonder really how large the market is for streaming music from your
computer . None of my friends have a clue about doing this so I'm
guessing the market is fairly small and geared towards audiophiles . A
minority for sure . Most are happy with Airplay ( they do know about
that )
but if they see SB Touch they have no clue what it is , let alone a
Transporter , but they sure think the analog meter is pretty cool .
Some of these folks that have no clue about computer music streaming
have pretty good stereo equipment too .

Not at this point . I have an Aries and while it's not as buggy as the
first software server from Slim Devices it's not as fully developed yet
.

Well certainly Auralic ,and Mr.Wang is no dummy over there, thinks the
market is ripe for a cheap audiophile streamer/dac.

I can guarantee you the audio quality will be better then the SB Touch
and probably even the Transporter.

Re: [slim] Apple Music

2015-06-09 Thread jimmypowder

The big positive I see with Apple starting their own music service is
not their service but it will force other services
to differentiate their streaming subscriptions offering more lossless
streaming .It wont be just Tidal and Qobuz offering
lossless streaming. I fully expect Spotify to offer an audiophile tier
by the end of the year.

Don't be surprised if some subscription planes start offering 24/96 and
24/192 by next year .I think Qobuz may already do some of this
but im in the States where its not offered.

It does, just not as good as some of the other streamers that have been

So you are saying the streamer has ZERO impact on sound quality? If
thats the case then we should all just buy the cheapest streamer we can
buy for audio quality.

Use decibel meter . It was very clear that the Transporter was not as
dynamic had less resolution than the Aries. Same files, volume set with
meter ,coax out.
Squeezebox Touch was the same
.Not as good.

Femto clocks baby,femto clocks!

Coax not usb. Didnt see a thing but I know the Touch and Transporter
dont sound as good feeding the same dac.
