Re: [slim] Open-Source Crestron Module
Marc, glad it's working for you. I'm adding multiple player control right now but I will make generic apps and music services the next thing. For your Crestron questions, do you know about the Yahoo group? http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Crestron/ That is the place to be for definitive answers on Crestron. Amazing group of supportive people. I wish it were a forum rather than an email list, but it works okay. -jason -- jwmelvin jwmelvin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2564 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54943 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Open-Source Crestron Module
Mike, I'm thrilled to hear your interest. Check our the module we have, which is currently version 0.3.7, on the google code site. It is working pretty well at the moment. Favorites is working (largely thanks to Tom, who recently started helping out), and the module as a whole is a little more reliable than it used to be. I'm thinking the next addition will be multiple player control and sync. It should not be too difficult. Then I'd like to add thumbnails for each item in the browse list, which will enable album cover browsing. Remember that you need not use a touchpanel--an Xpanels on a PC is really great in many ways. I use Xpanels, keypads, and the Commandfusion app for an iPod Touch. Having my module work with keypads, to start a pre-defined playlist, is probably the best feature for me. So, check things out and feel free to send me a private email: jwmelvin at google's mail service. -jason -- jwmelvin jwmelvin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2564 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54943 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Open-Source Crestron Module
Sorry, I haven't done Favorites yet. But I'm happy to add that to the top of the list. It will probably be about a month until I have time to do it though. If you want to be able to add radio stations to the favorites, I would need to finish off the general incorporation of radio. Right now I just have Pandora. But I think the thing to do is add Favorites and then go back and generalize the radio stuff. -- jwmelvin jwmelvin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2564 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54943 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Open-Source Crestron Module
I have not used the ControlWorks module, but have heard mixed things about it. I wrote this as an exercise in getting what I want, as there were a few features that ControlWorks didn't have when I started. I use it daily as do a few other people I work with. It has dynamic playlist integration, which I do not believe the ControlWorks module has. I just added Pandora integration (partial) so that is nice too. I use SqueezeCenter 7.3.4 and have no problems. Well, fast forward rewind do not work. I have no idea why, except that the published command in the CLI does not function. I expect to move to 7.4 fairly soon, and when I do, I will fix anything that needs it in the module. I'm most interested in having a few people try this and tell me what could be better about it. -jason -- jwmelvin jwmelvin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2564 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54943 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store
Hello all. iPeng is wonderful. For picking music, it makes the iPod unbeatable for me. I recently started using a tablet computer occasionally, but the lack of iPeng makes me prefer the touch. Thank you Pippin. I have developed a Crestron (home automation equipment) interface for SC, which now allows me to use the iPod Touch as a remote for the entire system, including source selection and control, volume, and lighting. For two sources, I use a SB2 and a SqueezeSlave on the server. Having the ability to control source and volume on the same page as music is really good for me. (I know that you can do volume in the SB, but that doesn't work for TV, etc.) The problem is that the functionality of my SC module is a joke in comparison to iPeng. It's mostly usable but only a fraction of the way there. (No search, no now playing manipulation, only currently playing cover art). It does have some things I would love in iPeng like dynamic playlist integration (still use iPeng web interface for that sometimes). My point is that I applaud your efforts and discussion because increased control from the iPod is great. I agree with Pippin that one problem with the iPod is the auto-lock (or lack of screen blanking without locking) and would add to that criticism the lack of hard buttons, which means you generally have to look at it to use it, making TV control a little less great. There are a number of devices that you can control via IP (Tivo, SqueezeCenter, Crestron, AMX, ...); perhaps it would be a good idea, as you say Pippin, to develop a plugin for SC that could interface with various things. Then you could put a GUI interface to that plugin to send commands from iPeng, if I understood you correctly. The beauty of the idea for me is that I could do a lot of the parsing and processing on the SC computer, in a Crestron plugin, rather than on my (more and more heavily loaded) Crestron processor. This would take generic commands from the CLI interface and send them to various devices. For me that's Crestron, but other people could directly control a TivO or, as you have been discussing, send IR commands from the SB to an emitter. Okay, sorry to ramble on there, if you made it through. I know nothing about writing plugins for SC, so I'm not really the right person to start this project, but I might start looking into it. Re: [slim] Open-Source Crestron Module
I would love to work together. I have posted the current code here: http://code.google.com/p/crestron-squeeze/ Currently it's under the GPL but I would also consider changing to the MIT license if someone feels strongly. I also have some suggestions from someone on the Crestron forum about how to improve the parsing function, but have not had time to work on it further. Let's plan to figure the best way to work together. I think the module has promise, as it does currently function but could use some additional features and bug fixes. This was my first substantial SIMPL+ module, so it has some things that no doubt we could do better. you can send me an email: jwmelvin at gmail. -- jwmelvin jwmelvin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2564 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54943 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

When I compile 0.8-12, I get the same behavior of restarting a song after pause. One interesting thing is that if I click (in the Web interface) on a position in the time slider, then subsequent play after pauses return to that position rather than the start of the song. This is true in both 0.8-12 and 0.8-26. Another clue is that when I play a track from the beginning, pressing pause stops the track as expected then pressing play restarts from the beginning. If I advance by clicking the slider, when I pause the track it jumps back to where I clicked on the slider. -- jwmelvin jwmelvin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2564 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54124 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Awesome, thanks! I installed: libmad0, libmad0-dev, vorbis-tools, libflac-dev, libogg-dev, and libvorbis-dev And it compiled into a functioning binary. A new question - can Squeezeslave use ReplayGain? I was hoping that compiling v25 would let me do so, but no option shows up in the settings page. Also - any hints on how to apply the 25 - 26 patch or daemonize patch? Is my guess that I put the file in the patches folder and then compile correct? [slim] Open-Source Crestron Module
I am developing a Crestron module for SqueezeCenter. If anyone is interested in testing it and/or helping me with development, I would like to get in touch. It should be fairly comprehensive, although I'm starting with the basics. At the moment, all the basic functionality works. And you can directly play playlists and dynamic playlists, which is what I use most of the time. I am working on the touchpanel listing and it is close to having a working list output/browser. Next is playing now display then we can move to things like Pandora, etc. To use this module, you will want to be able to program your Crestron. I work with a certified programmer, who is making the touchpanel interfaces. I also appreciate hearing from people about their experiences with the commercial modules available (ControlWorks, Media Realms, Rocket GUI). It may take a while but I intend to make this a workable solution for people who are interested in tinkering. It will remain open-source, although I haven't decided on a particular license under which to release it. Thoughts on that are also appreciated. -- jwmelvin jwmelvin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2564 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54943 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: Replaygain help
Okay, I installed 6.2.2 from 12/7, and that didn't seem to do the trick. So, today I tried adding replaygain with Foobar, and now the song info display from the Slimserver web interface shows volume adjustment. Also - volume adjustment works now! It seems like somehow, it is not recognizing the tags from jRiver. mp3tag shows the following tags: Replay Gain = -14.09394 Replaygain_album_gain = -8.68 dB Replaygain_album_peak = 0.69 Replaygain_track_gain = -8.14 dB Replaygain_track_peak = 0.69 I guess the reference point is different for jRiver and Foobar. The Foobar gains are a few dB higher (closer to zero) than jRiver. But it would still be great if this worked for me using jRiver. Any further suggestions? kdf Wrote: jRiver uses its own custom tag for replaygain. This was added to slimserver trunk about 4 weeks ago. This means that it is not supported in 6.2.1. I am trying to get replaygain going. Using a linux slimserver 6.2.1, and jRiver Media Center 11 to calculate tag files. I use the digital output from a SB2. When I look at the tags, they do contain the information. But nothing seems to change on playback. Through the web interface, file info shows the Beats/min., which is calculated by Media Center in the same operation as replaygain, but there is no indication of the replaygain tag, or volume adjustment (isn't that what slimserver calls it?). Should the behavior change immediately when i change the setting under player settings audio? Do I need to rescan my library to incorporate the changed tags?
