Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !

2010-10-13 Thread kantblue

Hi bluegaspode

The new version is great - the playlist option makes a HUGE improvement
for me - quick question though: is there a way to close the playlist
view without saving it. Eg to go back to the normal cover view?

Re: [slim] Announcing SqueezePad - the first dedicated iPad App to controll your SqueezeBoxen !

2010-10-13 Thread kantblue

Hi bluegaspode

The new playlist option makes a HUGE difference to me, it works really
well, especially with the context menu options which I wasn't
expecting!

What with this and IPeng I haven't picked up the controller for some
time.

Hi all

Don't know if anyone has noticed but a second squeezebox app for the
iPad is now in the app store (uk). I haven't tried it as I'm using
ipeng/squeemote.

Any takers/comments.

Re: [slim] Acer Aspire Revo: Good Server Bones?

2010-02-15 Thread kantblue

Hi tamanaco

After my old PC finally gave up the ghost I have just purchased one of
the REVO 3160's running windows 7 64bit and it does make a good
Squeezecentre Server.

BUT - I can't get WOL to work here either, its very frustrating, I'm
looking to see what the problem is, I've updated to the latest bios but
its still not working.

I find it difficult to believe that such a simple function can be so
hard LOL!

Re: [slim] How Do I Set WPA2 and Key in Duet Bridged Mode

2009-05-12 Thread kantblue

Hi jw111

I don't know that in Bridged mode you can. When I tried the setup here
connecting the controller to the receiver by connecting to the
SQUEEZEBOX_ network, it connected without ever asking for a
password.

Using netstumbler I could see the squeezebox duets wireless name
advertised, and the encryption was showing as WEP.

If you have your own wireless router? If this is the case then instead
of selecting the SQUEEZEBOX_ choose the option to select another
wireless network, and select your own, you can then use whatever
encryption you have set on your own router.

In this mode the wireless part of the receiver is effectively OFF, eg
no SQUEEZEBOX_ appears when scanning for wireless networks.

Hope this makes sense. I've never got a satisfactory answer about
bridged mode, other than people saying it is really only meant for
people without their own wireless router. Although the connection
between the Controller and the Receiver in this situation is WEP which
can easily be broken, I'm not sure of the security implications of this
on the DUET. I certainly didn't like the idea, so I connected the
controller to my own wirless network with WPA2 and it works fine. I
think this is called Hybrid mode.

Re: [slim] Best iPhone Remote

2009-03-13 Thread kantblue

Hi

One thing I should point out that Ipeng allows a Wake on Lan call if
you set your computer go to sleep when not in use, I'm not sure about
the other two apps. Anyone know?

I personally prefer ipeng, but having used squidgy I think thats fine
too, they are both different to each other.

Hi, just to let you know that with Ipeng 1.4 the Wake on Lan function is
working fine, so I can leave the controller in the box!

Excellent program, working fine for me here.

Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store

2008-12-07 Thread kantblue

Hi, firstly I'm loving the IPeng app.

I've just downloaded 1.3, and just letting you know, that on my system,
the Wake on Lan function doesn't seem to do anything? I know its
experimental, and there are so many issues with WOL and the
slimservers.

I have another application - IWOL - on my iphone, that works well so
its not a major issue.

I have double checked the Mac address and its correct, interestingly
the IWOL application requires more info than just the Mac Address, it
needs the mac, the host, and port number (12287) to work.

Like I say, I really pleased with the app, so its not a problem, just
an observation.

Re: [slim] iPeng Application 1.0 now on the App Store

2008-11-26 Thread kantblue

Hi, just a quick note to autopilot and anyone else interested, if you
don't want to wait for Wake on Lan to be part of Ipeng (or squidgy for
that matter), then there is a wake on lan app in the Itunes store.

Its called IWOL, and in the UK its £1.98. Works well for me, I can turn
on the slimserver with a few taps of this application and then switch to
Ipeng or Squidgy. All I have to do now is work out which application I
prefer!

Re: [slim] Squidgy for iPhone now available in Apple App Store

2008-11-15 Thread kantblue

Hi, just thought I'd put my experiences here as it might be useful to
others.

For a first version, I'm quite impressed. Its fast which is good and
fairly easy to navigate.

The issues I have found are:

I did have to add port 9090 as an exception to my windows firewall in
order to get it to connect. Slimserver 7.2.1 doesn't add this port
automatically when its installed, so I would guess this flaw lies with
the slimserver software rather than the squidgy app?

Each time I start the squidy app, it asks me to update my database even
though nothing has changed.

The squidgy app does NOT Wake On Lan the server which means I have to
use the Duet Controller to turn it on, which is a bind. IMHO this needs
to be fixed. This is especially the case when, for example I select
Staff Picks-Classic FM, as after 30 mins my slimserver PC goes to
sleephibernate, even though the radio stream keeps playing, as if I
then want to switch to Itunes music, I have to find the controller to
turn it back on. This might be new behaviour in 7.2.1 as I don't
recollect it doing that before?

Re: [slim] Controller Setup Not User Friendly - My Experience

2008-08-09 Thread kantblue

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd comment here, I have an SB3 which I found a doddle to
set up, partly I think because the whole process is manually
configured.

I had huge problems trying to set the duet up, and like other people
here, I fixed it in the end, but I couldn't really tell you how, I just
know it took hours to setup. One thing I will say is that once the
receiver/controller actually got connected AND the software on both
updated itself everything has been fine, even the Wake On Lan function
is working OK with 7.1.

I think the issue here is caused by the developers trying to make the
setup transparent and automatic which might work well in some cases,
but for many of us it causes big problems.

I had issues both with the wireless setup AND my wired network (ip
addressing, dhcp etc) all of which could have been solved if only I
could have specified MANUAL settings instead of the controller trying
to sort it out itself. On major issue I had is with the documentation
which says that if the receiver can't get a connection it will bring up
a screen asking for ip address details etc, but I never got that screen
to appear no matter how many reboots, resets etc I tried.

I would guess that many DUET users have some knowledge of setting up
systems etc so I think a simple Setup Manually or Automatically
question at the start of setup might be useful here.

Now that I've got it working I have to say that I prefer the Duet
Receiver/Controller over my SB3, though that is still in use upstairs!
