I can heartily recommend the above, I just received one in the post.
Exactly the same power supply as the original one.

Get one even if you don't need one yet!

Thanks Patrick,

Koen.

[slim] Cheap Nokia N770 in UK

2007-07-03 Thread koen

For people who might have been tempted to get one of these to use as a
slim remote but found them too expensive:

I have no links with expansys, but I think they are a reputable
company. I've ordered one anyway!

[slim] Re: System for mounting a SB3 on a wall?

2005-12-16 Thread koen

This amp is going to live in the attic so I won't have access to volume
or tone controls. I will just have to find a good level to set the
volume at so that I have enough dynamic range for all three
squeezeboxes using the internal volume.

[slim] Re: System for mounting a SB3 on a wall?

2005-12-15 Thread koen

Hi,

I'm very impressed by your bathroom sb3 installation and it's persuaded
me to put ceiling speakers in all rooms upstairs.

I bought a last year's model a/v amplifier which basically gives me a
six channel power amplifier to run three squeezeboxes from
(six analogue inputs going to six speaker outputs).

There's a myriad of ceiling speakers about though and I have trouble
deciding which ones to go for. Is there a particular reason you went
for the visaton one? You mentioned you didn't have any experience with
ceiling speakers, by what made you decide to buy Visaton?

regards,

Koen.

[slim] Re: System for mounting a SB3 on a wall?

2005-12-15 Thread koen

As Mark described I'm going to use the analogue inputs of the receiver
rather than any of the digital inputs.

I had in fact overlooked that I can't use the sub input on the 5.1
analogue inputs. but as I was planning on one room doing mono anyway
that doesn't really matter.

On that note, what is a cheap solution to mix the left and right signal
of a squeezebox into a mono signal? I had originally thought of wiring
both outputs together but our electronics engineer at work questioned
my sanity (you can't short outputs end of story).

Regards,

Koen.

[slim] Re: music held on multiple HD

2005-11-25 Thread koen

the links for libraries are the same as the ones for directories.

a symbolic link is obtained by invoking 'ln -s ...'.

A dynamic library could be called 'libxyz.so' for instance, but it
would be a symbolic link to libxyz.so.1.4 which is the actual library.
When a newer version of the library is installed (libxyz.so.1.5 for
instance) the symbolic link gets moved to the newer library. That way
the old library is still available and a simple change of link can undo
an upgrade. This is much better than actually replacing the old library
with the new one and then finding out the new one is buggy.

Now for symbolic linking of directories it could go as follows:

music folder = /music

disk 1 is mounted on /mnt/disk1
disk 2 is mounted on /mnt/disk2

then it's just a question of linking both to a directory in /music

ln -s /mnt/disk1 /music/disk1
ln -s /mnt/disk2 /music/disk2

if you then do an 'ls -l' in /music you will see

disk1 - /mnt/disk1
disk2 - /mnt/disk2

confirming your newly created links

Hope this helps,

Koen.
