Re: [slim] Squeezeplay - run in backgound?
Hi Ralphy, I had a silly pilot error when trying 184, it now works fine with WASAPI as expected. I've updated my previous post in this thread. Quick question: -S works for me, but under what conditions should I use it? Thanks, George -- mrthreeplates mrthreeplates's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=565 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81424 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Squeezeplay - run in backgound?
ralphy;571992 Wrote: Nice tutorial. Thanks for posting it. The latest WASAPI squeezeslave build 0.9-184 supports shared mode audio as well with the -S/--shared command line option. Perhaps the latest updates to the portaudio library included in r184 have fixed the problems you had with wasapi in the past. Hi Ralphy, Thanks for the tip and update! I just tried it. While I can now use WASAPI, I get some strange results when using the -o option. Here is the output of -L: C:\Users\Geo\Desktop\local\squeezeslave-0.9-184-winsqueezeslave-0.9-184.exe -L Output devices: * 0: (Windows DirectSound) Primary Sound Driver (0/0) 1: (Windows DirectSound) ATI HDMI Output (ATI High Definition Audio Device) (0/0) 2: (Windows DirectSound) Realtek Digital Output(Optical) (Realtek High Definition Audio) (0/0) 3: (Windows DirectSound) Realtek Digital Output (Realtek High Definition Audio) (0/0) Notes: HDMI is listed as my default playback devices in windows (green check marked in control panel). I'm running Windows 7, if that matters. When I select -o0, the sound goes to Realtek Digital Optical When I select -o1, -o3 (or nothing) the sound goes to HDMI When I select -o2, I don't get any sound to either of the two devices that I have hooked up (HDMI or Realtek Digital Optical). I want the sound to go to Realtek Digital Optical, so I have to use -o0 instead of -o2 which I expect and was using on prior versions. Now I can certainly live with this (and am glad that WASAPI is working for me), but it is a bit surprising! I also tried the --shared mode, but it threw an error (when using -o1, -o2, or -o3: output_thread: PortAudio error1: Invalid device I didn't get an error with or without -S with -o0. Here you go, with pictures too! :) http://www.cuttingthebills.com/2010/05/turn-your-media-pc-into-squeezebox.html I've been using Squeezeslave for months now and love it. Occasionally I get a glitch, but it is quite satisfactory. The author of Squeezeslave seems to be actively working on it, so that is really nice. The big advantage of Squeezeslave is that you can redirect it to a specific audio device (a must have feature). Re: [slim] How I use my Squeezeboxen
Thanks for the feedback! The article isn't complete yet. I wanted to add a couple more write ups, first up is how SqueezeSlave nicely compliments my existing Squeezeboxen. While SqueezeSlave isn't hard to setup, I can see that it can be challenging for non-techies. The main issues are deciding which binary to use, selecting an audio output, and how to automatically start it at boot. Here is my walk-thru: http://www.cuttingthebills.com/2010/05/turn-your-media-pc-into-squeezebox.html SqueezeSlave rocks too! [slim] How I use my Squeezeboxen
Hi All, Okay, so most people on this forum might not be interested in my writeup on using squeezeboxes in my home (as you are probably already long-time customers). I've been using squeezeboxes since rev 2 came out and owned them all (except the touch). Obviously, I'm a fan or I would have left a long time ago. I started out with the AudioTron (anyone else have one of these gems?), moved on to M-audio products (for their ASIO support), and haven't looked back since switching to SqueezeBoxes. There are so many things that I like about the system, but perhaps the best feature is that I can centralize my music and easily enjoy it in multiple places. It also doesn't hurt that I'm an obsessive, audiophile nerd. I do think Logitech's products are getting better and hopefully more approachable to the non-enthusiast. Towards that end, I wanted to share how I use their products as a whole house audio system. Here are my details, for your amusement: http://www.cuttingthebills.com/2010/05/whole-house-streaming-audio-and-more.html Cheers, George -- mrthreeplates mrthreeplates's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=565 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78936 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Announce: New Squeezeslave 0.9 Release available on sourceforge
Love using squeezeslave on my win7 HTPC, works great (thanks!). I'm using ASIO4all, version 133 of squeezeslave. Problem: I have noticed from time to time (once every few hours or so), all of the sound will stop. If I look at the web gui, it thinks slave is still playing. It seems to stay silent until I do something. Hitting next track or seeking to another place in the track will resume playback. I've noticed this on Squeeze Server 7.4.2 and still on 7.5.1 (running on a WinXP sp3 server). I've seen this problem on older versions of squeezeslave and with / without asio. Most of my files are cue/flacs and I do use a custom-conv file to do on-the-fly HDCD/de-emphasis (if that matters). Just curious if others have seen this. Re: [slim] wireless bridge frustration with duet
I just bought a controller/receiver and am really impressed. However, I miss the ability to bridge the wired/wireless networks that I have with my SB3s Transporter. I've voted for bug #9024. Can anyone provide a link to the perl hack discussed above and used to enable this feature? Re: [slim] Unwanted message Problem: Can't connect to SqueezeCenter when server is hibernating
Hi, I should add that I think I also saw this message when I was running the older SlimServer 6.x as well as SqueezeCenter 7.x. Anyone else have a transporter hibernate/standby/shutdown your server when not in use? If so, do you see these messages, or not? [slim] Unwanted message Problem: Can't connect to SqueezeCenter when server is hibernating
Hi, I have a transporter connected to my PC. When I am not listening to music, I often hibernate my computer. From time to time, well after my PC is down, a message pops up on the display. The message is displayed for about 5 seconds and is always at full brightness. I do not see any pattern as to why this message shows up at any particular time: Problem: Can't connect to SqueezeCenter Left to go back, right to try again. This happens regardless of using the wired or wireless connections. This happens regardless of whether or not the transporter was off when I hibernated my computer. I do have my transporter set to brightness 0 when off, and *usually* turn off the transporter prior to hibernation. However, this doesn't seem to matter. This message shows up hours after my PC has been hibernating. Usually it shows up twice in a row. Sometimes the message shows up again and again in the span of an hour or so. At other times it doesn't appear to happen for a long time (or I'm getting used to it and starting to ignore it). Does anyone else see this behavior? If so, can you let Slim Devices know as their tech support as been unable to reproduce this behavior. [slim] coax digital output glitches w/AC power spikes
Hi, I have my SB2 connected to a Classe DAC-1. Both the SB2 and the DAC share a single power outlet (via a power strip). I have noticed that when I turn on/off lights in my house that I occasionally get glitches in the audio output. I have no idea if these lights share the same circuit breaker or not. Let's say for the sake of argument that they do. I can see that the LOCK light on my DAC flickers when this happens (which explains the glitches). I have had similar problems when using my DAC while connected to a M-audio sound card via the Coax input. I don't have these problems when using the toslink input on my DAC (with either the M-audio card or the SB2). Now, my question for others: Do you have the same problem when running with an exernal DAC/coax? Seems to me that the issue is that the isn't enough electrical isolation on either my DAC and/or SB2. I'm sure this is just something I have to live with, but I'm wondering if I could fix this somehow (like with a power conditioner of some sort...). I'd like to use the coax output on the SB2 (as it is supposedly superior to the toslink), but the glitches that I get are a bit annoying.
