II removed slimserver and installed several times to no avail. I was
successful, on Kevin's advice from slim devices, by removing, deleting
all contents of my temp folder, and reinstalling.

[slim] Re: slim server will not start - Perl58.dll

2006-08-22 Thread ohiost90

I was able to get slim server running in a cmd window by typing
"slim.exe" in the c:\program files\slimserver\server folder.

Slim.exe is shown as a process in task manager and the cmd window is
still open.

the event log has some good stuff in it. messages containing start
controls as well as stop cmds for slimserver. Also some windows
defender messages stating that slimserver is "unwanted" i'm going to
look into those further.

MSRP for the 275 = $500 usd, zamp 3 = $300 usd.

[slim] Re: small amplifier recommendations?

2006-01-10 Thread ohiost90

Both of these would work nicely. The 1st 1 is rated at 75 watts and has
a/b speaker posts, the second is rated at 45 watts with only 2 sets of
speaker posts. Both have audio loops to input into addional amps. Both
also have 12v tiggers as well as auto-on when an audio signal is present
at the L and R audio IN jacks.

http://www.parasound.com/nc/275.php

http://www.parasound.com/nc/zampv3.php

For speakers, i would recomend PSB or B&W. I haven't hear their
in-walls, but their floorstanders are excellent.

You first asked for an amp but are also looking for a digital input. i
know of no amps with digital in. Amps simply take a analog line level
feed and amplify it to speaker level output.

To drive a set (or more speakers) from a squeezebox, 1 only needs an
amp. Since volume control can be done using the squeezebox, it acts
like a pre-amp. Of course having a squeezebox/amp only set-up will not
allow one to play additional sources such as an FM tuner, cd player, etc
nor will it allow one to use the digital outputs since it has now DACs.
If you only want to play the squeezebox on that system, going with an
amp would be fine. If you want to play additional sources now, or in
the future, you will need an amp and pre-amp, an integrated amp that
combines both the amp and pre-amp, or a receiver that will give you the
amp and preamp sections along with a FM turner. Many receivers come
with digital processing.

I could give you dozens of recommendations for all, but without knowing
your budget, it would be fruitless. FWIW, i'm thinking of a
squeezebox/amp only set-up in the future. For that I'll more than
likely get a used NAD, Rotel, or Parasound 2 channel amp. Parasound
makes a nice sounding, and looking, 2 channel baby that will drive most
speakers to satisfaction for the implementation I have in mind. And it
would work great with in-wall speakers that I think you are talking
about.

This 1 is small and will drive two sets of speakers
http://www.parasound.com/nc/275.php

want a smaller one? this one will only drive 1 set of speakers, but
you can "loop" the input to another amp if you want to drive additional
speakers.
