[slim] upnp needed for accessing mp3 files on PC

2010-12-22 Thread ozbrit

I have the very excellent Squeezebox classic 3 and with this can play
all my shared audio files from my desktop PC running windows XP.

I also have an internet radio which can also play audio files from my
PC, but when I search for them on the unit cannot find any. On
referring to the radios operators manual I see they recommend using
Windows media player 11 or above as a bridge or UPnP to facilitate
things. When I attempt to download media player it can't validate my
windows. Is there any other way I can get around this problem and get
my mp3's playing on the wifi internet player? I do have the free
versions of VLC player, Real Player and Winamp already installed on the
desktop.
Thanks for your time :o)

Thanks, but I've now found a UPnP software that gets the job done called
servilia from sourceforge. Happy Christmas to you all.

I'm not sure hiding your IP will do the trick. You need a proxy UK IP
and they will cost, if you want a reliable broadband connection.

Re: [slim] Smooth radio

2009-02-05 Thread ozbrit

If you're outside the UK, you will get a message advising they have
detected you have an overseas computer connection.

This is all about the Musicians Union in the UK double dipping on music
royalties. Their warped logic goes along the lines that UK radio
stations pay royalties for their UK listeners, but if listeners from
overseas listen in then the audience of radio stations in their own
country is reduced. To support musicians overseas then they charge
extra royalties to UK stations not geo-locking foreigners out.
Understand that? I don't.

Re: [slim] SBR and signal strength

2009-01-22 Thread ozbrit

An interesting thread to me I have a dynalink RTE 1025 wireless modem
router with my SB3 located across the house with a signal of 25%, any
radio station with a bitrate greater than 160kbps also stutters and
carries on, would that be down to too low a reception signal?

[slim] Replaygain - Anyone know about it?

2009-01-14 Thread ozbrit

I was looking through some posts on another forum when someone suggested
a facility for squeezebox where music volume from a playlist could be
levelled. You know how different tracks from different albums/sources
can vary in volume, well at this forum someone chipped in saying there
is a squeezebox facility that can do this called Replaygain. Hmmm!
I wonder if this is factual, as I can't see anything in SqueezeCenter
called replagain or anything else like it. Anyone know about it?
