Bultee wrote: Many thanks for the great tool. I have a duet without a controller. I used IDAP to successfully connect it in wired mode. However in wireless mode it won't get past the blue light. I tried every combination of WPA parameters as well as unsecured. Each time I matched the parameters in the router config. Interestingly the receiver shows up in the attached devices table in the router config but won't function and doesn't respond to pinging (in wired mode it does). This was all in DHCP mode. I also tried static with the same results except that in wired mode the receiver doesn't show up on the router list but does function and can be pinged (still not pingable in wireless) Can anyone offer any suggestions? This may be a red herring but...I also noticed that UDAP responds differently in wired and wireless modes. In the wired mode it mimics the hybrid setup where after saving the setup it flashes red until the server is started after which it connects and is ready to go. {reset} doesn't function in wired mode. After a wireless setup [reset] does work and the unit goes through yellow-green to blue, again mimicking the wireless set up as described by logitech knowledgebase 11915, specifically - When the light turns blue, the Controller will ask you to choose a music source. Choose SqueezeCenter if it is installed on your computer. It seems to be waiting for the controller to tell it which server to use but without the controller is there a way for IDAP to emulate this? Probably doesn't explain the inability to ping the receiver. Thanks Hi, Can you give me some details about your setup, eg. on what platform are you running? Re: [slim] Net::UDAP - SqueezeBox Receiver configuration tool
Guys ( Gals), Most of the discovery issues in Net::UDAP are because I did a dirty hack to work out the machines local IP addresses (I parse the output of ifconfig or ipconfig on Windows). This is fragile and fails on OSX and any non-English locale. There is a module that can be used to list local IP addresses - I use it in the current trunk version - but is not pure perl, ie. it requires binary compilation and I am trying to keep Net::UDAP pure perl so it's easy to install (extract the tarball/zip and run). Anyway... I've added a new option in the 1.0.x branch to allow the local address to be specified. Get it here: https://projects.robinbowes.com/Net-UDAP/trac/browser/branches/1.0.x (download the zip file from the link at the bottom of the page) Use it as follows: scripts/udap_shell.pl --local-address a.b.c.d where: a.b.c.d is the IP address of the local machine Please let me know how this works for you, preferably with a post to my mailing list: http://lists.projects.robinbowes.com/mailman/listinfo/net-udap Cheers, R. -- robinbowes robinbowes's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=480 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57861 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Net::UDAP - SqueezeBox Receiver configuration tool
Rich, Yellow means your SBR is not connecting to your wireless network correctly. Try connecting wired, to make sure everything else is setup OK: discover conf 1 set interface=1 lan_ip_mode=1 squeezecenter_address=192.168.2.2 save_data reset If that works, you need to review your wireless settings and make sure they're correct. You might find the examples [1] useful. In particular, the WPA2 with TKIP+AES one [2]. R. [slim] Thoughts on requirements for slimserver computer
Hi, I'm a doing a little market research and would appreciate your opinions by way of answers to the questions below. 1. Are you holding off buying a Squeezebox because you are not sure about setting up a computer to run slimserver? 2. Would you be interested in buying a server pre-configured with slimserver, i.e. all you have to do is plug it in and load up your music files? 3. Would you have any preference over the operating system used on such a server (i.e. Windows, Linux, OSX, etc.) ? 4. Would you be interested in buying a complete turnkey solution comprising everything you need to get up and running, i.e. Squeezebox + router/switch + server? 5. Would you be interested in remote assistance in setting up slimserver? 6. What is your preferred music file format (ie. mp3, flac, wac, wma, aac, etc.) ? 7. How big is your music collection, i.e. how many CDs/downloaded tracks do you have? [slim] Re: Automatically restart crashed slimserver?
This is of no help at all to the OP, but this thread has given me the impetus to get slimserver working with djb's daemontools (http://cr.yp.to/daemontools.html). Here's what I did. 1. Create a directory for the service and the log: # mkdir -p /etc/slimdata/service/log 2. Create the slimserver run file: # vi /etc/slimdata/service/run #!/bin/sh SLIMSERVER_HOME='/usr/local/slimserver' SLIMSERVER_BIN=${SLIMSERVER_HOME}/slimserver.pl SLIMSERVER_CFG='/etc/slimdata/slimserver.conf' SLIMSERVER_USER='slimserver' SLIMSERVER_ARGS=--prefsfile=${SLIMSERVER_CFG} LC_CTYPE=en_GB.ISO-8859-1 exec /usr/local/bin/setuidgid $SLIMSERVER_USER $SLIMSERVER_BIN $SLIMSERVER_ARGS 21 3. Create the log run file: # vi /etc/slimdata/service/log/run #! /bin/sh LOGDIR=/var/log/slimserver exec /usr/local/bin/setuidgid slimserver multilog n20 s10485760 $LOGDIR 4. Make both run files executable: # chmod +x /etc/slimdata/service/run # chmod +x /etc/slimdata/service/log/run 5. Set permissions on whole service directory: # chown -R slimserver:slimserver /etc/slimdata/service 6. Create the log dir: # mkdir /var/log/slimserver 7. Set permissions on log dir: # chown slimserver:slimserver /var/log/slimserver 8. Stop slimserver (run from init.d): # service slimserver stop 8. Start the new service: # cd /service # ln -s /etc/slimdata/service slimserver 9. Check it's running: # svstat /service/slimserver/ /service/slimserver/log /service/slimserver/: up (pid 21223) 506 seconds /service/slimserver/log: up (pid 21002) 954 seconds 10. Remove the service from init.d permanently; # chkconfig --del slimserver # chkconfig --list slimserver service slimserver supports chkconfig, but is not referenced in any runlevel (run 'chkconfig --add slimserver') Notice I have not used the t option in the multilog line (timestamp). This is because most (not all) slimserver output is already timestamped. It would be better (for this application anyhow) to turn off slimserver timestamping and to turn on multilog timestamping. That would ensure that *all* output is timestamped, even plug-in output. I hope someone else finds this useful. Makes the laptop a bit less mobile but could possibly suit my needs for now. Only problem with this is that the Maxtor firewire drive is pretty flakey. We shall see. Anyway. Thanks for the help with this. I still think you should give the SMC mains stuff a go. You could put your noisy server out of the way and create a mains connection between that and your ADSL modem/Switch/WAP, then just let the SB connect wirelessly to the WAP.
