much time at the moment, receivers all on storage, and no Windows or

I think server_address is your local server, and squeezecenter_address
is the Slim/Logitech server-in-the-cloud.

Yes, it's fine for the IP to show 0.0.0.0 when mode is DHCP - I think it

 Many thanks for the great tool.
 I have a duet without a controller. I used IDAP to successfully connect
 it in wired mode. However in wireless mode it won't get past the blue
 light. I tried every combination of WPA parameters as well as
 unsecured. Each time I matched the parameters in the router config.
 Interestingly the receiver shows up in the attached devices table in the
 router config but won't function and doesn't respond to pinging (in
 wired mode it does). This was all in DHCP mode.
 I also tried static with the same results except that in wired mode the
 receiver doesn't show up on the router list but does function and can be
 pinged (still not pingable in wireless)

 Can anyone offer any suggestions?

 This may be a red herring but...I also noticed that UDAP responds
 differently in wired and wireless modes. In the wired mode it mimics
 the hybrid setup where after saving the setup it flashes red until the
 server is started after which it connects and is ready to go.  {reset}
 doesn't function in wired mode. After a wireless setup [reset] does
 work and the unit goes through yellow-green to blue, again mimicking the
 wireless set up as described by logitech knowledgebase 11915,
 specifically - When the light turns blue, the Controller will ask you
 to choose a music source. Choose SqueezeCenter if it is installed on
 your computer. It seems to be waiting for the controller to tell it
 which server to use but without the controller is there a way for IDAP
 to emulate this? Probably doesn't explain the inability to ping the
 receiver.
 Thanks

Can you give me some details about your setup, eg. on what platform are
you running? What version of NetUDAP are you using? etc.

Depending on the Net-UDAP version you are using, you may be having
problems with the WEP key (if you are using WEP). If you are, try using
the latest version on the 1.0.x branch [2]. If you are not using WEP,
check your wireless key.

A couple more ideas...

Is the SBR connected to the same network segment as the computer on
which you are running udap_shell?

Did you factory reset the SBR (press and hold the button until it
flashes red quickly) ?

Re: [slim] Net::UDAP - SqueezeBox Receiver configuration tool

2010-03-27 Thread robinbowes

Well, I just downloaded and installed the latest 1.0.x trunk version
(r131) onto a 32-bit Windows 7 machine which has ActivePerl 5.10.1
Build 1006 on it.

It seems to work OK, ie. it displays Broadcasting adv_discovery
message...

Note, it does *not* do this if I don't specify the --local-address
option.

Are you *sure* that's the right IP address?

What's the output from ipconfig /all ?

OK, can you take this to the net-udap mailing list [1]. I'll need some
debugging output from you.

Can you edit src/Net-UDAP/lib/Net/UDAP/Log.pm and change info to
debug here:

use Log::StdLog {
handle = *STDERR,
level  = 'info',
format = \std_log_format,
};

Then run udap_shell.pl --local-address=192.168.1.34, and do a
discover.

Post the output to the mailing list.

Re: [slim] Net::UDAP - SqueezeBox Receiver configuration tool

2010-01-07 Thread robinbowes

Guys ( Gals),

Most of the discovery issues in Net::UDAP are because I did a dirty
hack to work out the machines local IP addresses (I parse the output of
ifconfig or ipconfig on Windows). This is fragile and fails on OSX and
any non-English locale.

There is a module that can be used to list local IP addresses - I use
it in the current trunk version - but is not pure perl, ie. it requires
binary compilation and I am trying to keep Net::UDAP pure perl so it's
easy to install (extract the tarball/zip and run).

Anyway...

I've added a new option in the 1.0.x branch to allow the local address
to be specified. Get it here:

https://projects.robinbowes.com/Net-UDAP/trac/browser/branches/1.0.x

(download the zip file from the link at the bottom of the page)

Use it as follows:

scripts/udap_shell.pl --local-address a.b.c.d

where:
a.b.c.d is the IP address of the local machine

Please let me know how this works for you, preferably with a post to my
mailing list:

http://lists.projects.robinbowes.com/mailman/listinfo/net-udap

Cheers,

R.

Re: [slim] Net::UDAP - SqueezeBox Receiver configuration tool

Rich,

Yellow means your SBR is not connecting to your wireless network
correctly.

Try connecting wired, to make sure everything else is setup OK:

discover
conf 1
set interface=1 lan_ip_mode=1 squeezecenter_address=192.168.2.2
save_data
reset

If that works, you need to review your wireless settings and make sure
they're correct.

You might find the examples [1] useful. In particular, the WPA2 with
TKIP+AES one [2].

Rich,

I'm using pretty much the same config on my network:

lan_ip_mode: 1
lan_network_address: 192.168.2.138

wireless_wep_key_3: 00
wireless_wep_on: 0
wireless_wpa_cipher: 3
wireless_wpa_mode: 2
wireless_wpa_on: 1
wireless_wpa_psk: sekrit

The only difference is that I use TKIP+AES.

I switched my WAP to use TKIP and re-configured a SBR with
wireless_wpa_cipher=1 and it connected fine.

So, I'm not sure what's happening in your case. Are you sure the key is
correct?

Cira,

I suggest you look at the Sample Usage page:

https://projects.robinbowes.com/Net-UDAP/trac/wiki/SampleUsage

To find the adddress of your squeezecenter:

goto the web interface
Click settings (bottom right)
Click the Information tab
Server IP Address is the third line down.

If you have DHCP on your wired network, something like this should
work:

discover
conf 1
set interface=1 lan_ip_mode=1 squeezecenter_address=a.b.c.d
save_data
reset

where a.b.c.d is the Server IP Address you looked up earlier.

[slim] Net-UDAP support - new mailing list

2009-01-30 Thread robinbowes

Hi all,

I'm afraid I just don't have time to read all posts to the Slim
Devices
forums/lists any more - they're just too damn popular!

So, sorry if you feel you've posted questions here about Net-UDAP that
have gone un-answered.

To try and address this, I've created a new mailing list for Net-UDAP
support.

Details are here:

http://lists.projects.robinbowes.com/mailman/listinfo/net-udap

The archive is (will be) here:

http://lists.projects.robinbowes.com/Net-UDAP/mailman/net-udap/

Please subscribe and send your questions to that list. Hopefully this
should improve Net-UDAP support.

Thanks,

R.

PS. Sorry if this turns out to be a duplicate thread - I originally
posted via gmane and it got lost in the ether somehow.

[slim] Thoughts on requirements for slimserver computer

2005-09-05 Thread robinbowes

Hi,

I'm a doing a little market research and would appreciate your opinions
by way of answers to the questions below.

1. Are you holding off buying a Squeezebox because you are not sure
about setting up a computer to run slimserver?

2. Would you be interested in buying a server pre-configured with
slimserver, i.e. all you have to do is plug it in and load up your
music files?

3. Would you have any preference over the operating system used on such
a server (i.e. Windows, Linux, OSX, etc.) ?

4. Would you be interested in buying a complete turnkey solution
comprising everything you need to get up and running, i.e. Squeezebox +
router/switch + server?

5. Would you be interested in remote assistance in setting up
slimserver?

6. What is your preferred music file format (ie. mp3, flac, wac, wma,
aac, etc.) ?

7. How big is your music collection, i.e. how many CDs/downloaded
tracks do you have?

Please send replies to robin-slimsurvey at robinbowes dot com

Thanks,

R.

[slim] Re: Automatically restart crashed slimserver?

2005-09-05 Thread robinbowes

This is of no help at all to the OP, but this thread has given me the
impetus to get slimserver working with djb's daemontools
(http://cr.yp.to/daemontools.html).

Here's what I did.

1. Create a directory for the service and the log:

# mkdir -p /etc/slimdata/service/log

2. Create the slimserver run file:

# vi /etc/slimdata/service/run

#!/bin/sh

SLIMSERVER_HOME='/usr/local/slimserver'
SLIMSERVER_BIN=${SLIMSERVER_HOME}/slimserver.pl
SLIMSERVER_CFG='/etc/slimdata/slimserver.conf'
SLIMSERVER_USER='slimserver'
SLIMSERVER_ARGS=--prefsfile=${SLIMSERVER_CFG}
LC_CTYPE=en_GB.ISO-8859-1

exec /usr/local/bin/setuidgid $SLIMSERVER_USER $SLIMSERVER_BIN
$SLIMSERVER_ARGS 21

3. Create the log run file:

# vi /etc/slimdata/service/log/run

#! /bin/sh
LOGDIR=/var/log/slimserver
exec /usr/local/bin/setuidgid slimserver multilog n20 s10485760
$LOGDIR

4. Make both run files executable:

# chmod +x /etc/slimdata/service/run
# chmod +x /etc/slimdata/service/log/run

5. Set permissions on whole service directory:

# chown -R slimserver:slimserver /etc/slimdata/service

6. Create the log dir:

# mkdir /var/log/slimserver

7. Set permissions on log dir:

# chown slimserver:slimserver /var/log/slimserver

8. Stop slimserver (run from init.d):

# service slimserver stop

8. Start the new service:

# cd /service
# ln -s /etc/slimdata/service slimserver

9. Check it's running:

# svstat /service/slimserver/ /service/slimserver/log
/service/slimserver/: up (pid 21223) 506 seconds
/service/slimserver/log: up (pid 21002) 954 seconds

10. Remove the service from init.d permanently;

# chkconfig --del slimserver
# chkconfig --list slimserver
service slimserver supports chkconfig, but is not referenced
in any runlevel (run 'chkconfig --add slimserver')

Notice I have not used the t option in the multilog line (timestamp).
This is because most (not all) slimserver output is already timestamped.
It would be better (for this application anyhow) to turn off slimserver
timestamping and to turn on multilog timestamping. That would ensure
that *all* output is timestamped, even plug-in output.

I hope someone else finds this useful.

[slim] Re: All PCs and SB wireless to adsl hub... but want to streampcm. Solution?

 Thanks for the replies all.
 Robin (I'm fine, if a little frustrated... how's life up North?),

Oh, not so bad. I've unfortunately got a 1 hour commute to/from Leeds
either end of the day so that's not good. I've been stupidly busy at
work too - steep learning curve, getting to grips with the working
practices/foibles, etc. Not had much time to listen to music properly
but listening a lot to iPod in car.

 the box that bloke made is noisy, so no good for my lounge. Also I do
 not want to be the first person in the UK to use their mains wiring for
 this stuff... so, thanks for the suggestions but I think the solutions
 are probably not for me.

Why not buy a set and if it doesn't work/is not to your liking, return
it within 7/14 days (whatever)? I can't believe they'd sell something
that doesn't work and, if it doesn't, you're entitled to your money
back anyway!

 I'm was beginning to think that a hacked Buffalo Link Station thingy
 (or a Lacie RAS) might be the best option. However, I am not Linux
 conversant and the cut down version of Linux that comes with the box is
 solely command line driven (I think) so it's probably not really a goer
 (not if i want a life anyway).

Based on the little I know of you, I'd steer clear of Linux :)

 I am going to buy a Squeezebox 2 and flog my old Squeezebox but I can't
 imagine that this will stream PCM much better then the Squeezebox 1 does
 (bearing in mind that all connections are currently independently
 wireless... i.e. file server, Slimserver and Squeezebox), but I guess
 I'll give it a go first.

Well, if you're using 11g you should get much better streaming,
assuming a good connection.

 I can't wire the Squeezebox into my router elegantly (the rented house
 I'm in looks lovely, lotsa oak beams etc and it would be a shame to
 ruin it's looks by looping cables across the lounge) but I have
 realised I have a spare 300gb USB firewire drive... so I am considering
 putting all my music on that, pluging it into the laptop (which usually
 quite close to my router/hub) and wiring the laptop directly in to the
 hub. Makes the laptop a bit less mobile but could possibly suit my
 needs for now. Only problem with this is that the Maxtor firewire drive
 is pretty flakey. We shall see.

 Anyway. Thanks for the help with this.
I still think you should give the SMC mains stuff a go. You could put
your noisy server out of the way and create a mains connection between
that and your ADSL modem/Switch/WAP, then just let the SB connect
wirelessly to the WAP. That seems to me to be the perfect solution -
you just need to bite the bullet on the mains networking equipment.
Like I said, I might even give it a go myself...

...and I'm sure 11g has something to do with it too.

  Any idea as to when it will be available in 6.1.x?

 When I build a new version on that branch, probably later this week. It

 takes at least an hour to build, confidence test and upload each
 release, so I am trying to include several fixes/enhancements in each
 release on the trunk (development branch).

 For now you can use the 2.0b8 from sourceforge, this will work ok with

 6.1.x. The only problem will be the up/down animations.

 Richard

Richard,

I have the same problem (using 2.0b7 on 6.1.x from svn). I thought it
was a problem with my broadband connection but I'm seeing the same
thing connected on my lan at home.

Looking forward to 2.0b8 when you update the 6.1 branch.

Cheers,

R.

[slim] Re: SB reboot when looking for network

2005-05-05 Thread robinbowes

dean Wrote:
 That's exactly right. At 10, if the Squeezebox hasn't connected to an
 infrastructure network, it tries to connect to an AdHoc network of the

 same name. I've never heard of this kind of crash, it's possible it's

 a bad wireless card or an incompatibility with your access point. What

 make/model are the wireless devices on your network?

Dean,

I've just run into this problem.

My SB used to be rock solid; now, it works fine wired, but exhibits
these symptoms, ie. reboots on 10 when looking for a wireless network.

I've had the case apart and checked the wireless card
connections/seating and all seems well.

Any ideas?
