Re: [slim] Wired Installation: possible ground loop?
Both ends of an ethernet cable are connected to isolation transformers. No part of the cable itself is grounded, so, I don't think an ethernet cable is ever going to cause a ground loop. -- slippyr4 slippyr4's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91709 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Acer Aspire Revo: Good Server Bones?
That's a how long is a piece of string question really. The 3700 would be an ideal server. Putting windows on it would be very easy. Putting ubuntu on it would also be pretty easy - the installer approaches windows in it's ease of use and simplicity. Where you could get unstuck is if you have problems - odd crashes, driver issues, stuff like that. They are generally tougher to fix in linux than windows. However it's all down to experience. i'd say go for it. There's a huge ubuntu support community out there and if you do have some issues there are people who'll help you out. -- slippyr4 slippyr4's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73774 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Acer Aspire Revo: Good Server Bones?
I'd think the desktop edition would be fine. although you're after a server, you'll only have a couple of clients. server operating systems are for data centre's and so on. You can set up file shares and even quotas and so on with ubuntu desktop edition just fine. I doubt you'll need any more than that. -- slippyr4 slippyr4's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73774 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Forced to update?
Hi All, I've been avoiding updating to 7.6 until many of the complaints settle down. However, I get home from work today and my touch is displaying a screen about updating itself to 7.6, and I cannot see any option to cancel. I don't want to update now, and I resent being forced. Why is it doing this to me? My sbs is still version 7.5.5 and my squeezebox radio is unaffected. I don't like this squeezebox system if logitech can force my players into updating when they want, not when I want. It's wholly unacceptable. Does anyone know why this is happening or know a way to cancel out of the forced updated? thasnks slip -- slippyr4 slippyr4's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89472 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Logitech CEO Steps down
http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/28/logitech-ceo-steps-down-after-money-losing-q1-revue-price-slash/ I can't see this as good news for those of us wanting new models of squeezebox. If logitech aren't doing well, then the chances of a new model coming out soon don't seem that great to me :( -- slippyr4 slippyr4's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89129 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Spotify+Radio+Touch+ Remote Oddity
I have a touch and a radio. Both are configured to have the spotify app on their home menus, which i like. However, in the android remote control, the spotify app appears on the home screen for the radio, but not for the touch. I have no idea why! It's still in My Apps, but I expect to see it on the home menu. Also seems to be exactly the same on the iPad remote, and in iPeng too. So I expect it's something to do with the server. -- slippyr4 slippyr4's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88948 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] NEW SB hardware?
indeed. there are products i **could** make work... but a mythical boom 2 would be ideal, and I shall wait and hope one comes out. I don't think it would be very difficult... we're told the audio stages of the radio are based on the boom; the embedded platform that the logic of the touch and the radio is based on seems to work well - so it's surely just a joining of existing bits of tech into a new product. i hope that logitech are still developing squeezebox products. it'd be very sad if the product line was discontinued just after i get on board. i note today that logitech are bragging about the spotify support of radio and touch, with the launch of spotify in america. -- slippyr4 slippyr4's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88170 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] NEW SB hardware?
well, i'm new to the squeezebox scene (i got a radio last wednesday and liked it so much I bought a touch on sunday). The touch is for my hifi in the living room; the radio is great in the kitchen. But now i want a device for the dining room:- Stereo Integrated Speakers Touchscreen Support for Spotify If they brought that out (Boom 2 maybe?) I'd buy one tomorrow. slip -- slippyr4 slippyr4's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=48150 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88170 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
