[slim] 24 bit 88.2KHz FLACS and SB Classic

2010-03-09 Thread swhite58

I've been looking at Linn Records' site and thought it might be nice to
try their 24/88.2 Studio master FLACs. I have a Classic and
Squeezebox Server 7.4.1. I know the Classic will play 24/48 files.
Will Squeezebox Server downsample the 24/88.2 to 24/48, and do I need
any additional software to do it?

Thanks

Shane

 I am sometimes amazed by what I learn on this forum. I had no idea I
 could add podcasts in this way. I did not even know I might want to
 until I saw this thread. Thanks Oldrad for asking the question and BPA
 for the answer. I just listened to the podcastr of Fresh Air.

Do any Australians (or others) know if the Australian ABC provides a
similar list of their podcasts?

Re: [slim] Multiple ARTISTSORT (etc) tags

2007-07-05 Thread swhite58

This could be a bit tricky. It looks to me that the problem is in the
tag data standard itself if you can link specific ARTIST and ARTISTSORT
fields.

Unless Slimserver can be made to take into account the order in which
they are entered and pair them that way:

ARTIST=Butch Cassidy;The Sundance Kid
ARTISTSORT=Cassidy, Butch;Sundance Kid

If you do this, you would have to be mindful of instances when the SORT
form is the same as the normal form. So if you also wanted to index Led
Zeppelin in the same tag we would have to do this:

ARTIST==Butch Cassidy;Led Zeppelin;The Sundance Kid
ARTISTSORT=Cassidy, Butch;Led Zeppelin;Sundance Kid

or maybe:

ARTIST==Butch Cassidy;Led Zeppelin;The Sundance Kid
ARTISTSORT=Cassidy, Butch;;Sundance Kid

Anyway, back to work ...

From your subject line I thought you were having trouble with your Aston
Martin! Perhaps you have an ignition problem :)

Re: [slim] Plugging SB3 straight into poweramp?

 There's no real risk as such except for if there is a software glitch on

 AND your amp manages to blow the speakers because either of clipping or
 excess power. But as a matching issue I'd look at the output impedance
 of the SB and the input impedance of the amp, ensure the ratio is at
 least 1:10 and preferably a lot more. I have run a Transporter Prima
 Luna tube power amps for quite some time with no problems.

How do I find out the SB3 output impedence? I haven't been able to
find it in the docs.

[slim] Plugging SB3 straight into poweramp?

2007-04-16 Thread swhite58

I have an SB3, which I use with a Luxman L4 integrated amp. Yes, the L4
is definitely vintage, but it was well regarded in its day and still
does a good job :) The L4 has bridged RCA pre and power amp
connections so I could in theory plug the SB3 straight into the power
amp. Is there any risk in doing this?

See http://www.hilberink.nl/codehans/luxman7.htm for some pics of the
L4, including the bridged RCAs

Thanks

Re: [slim] Let's here some suggestions for SlimServer 7

2007-03-28 Thread swhite58

Before I bought a SB, I had mpd (music player daemon) installed on a
linux box with a soundcard. I controlled it with a web front end
called phpMp, which had a clickable progress bar, which enabled you to
go to any point in the track that was playing. For a screenshot see
http://www.musicpd.org/images/phpMp_20030925_7.jpg

I'd love to be able to do this with Slimserver.

I know about the Song Scanner plugin, and it works really well, but I'd
prefer to use Slimserver for this.
