Re: [slim] About to replace Hifiberry DAC/Cambridge Azur 340a with Hifiberry AMP2 - Thoughts?
Here's a brief upshot of the AMP as a replacement for a Cambridge Azur 340A: 1) it certainly has enough volume, and gets uncomfortable in my room at 70%(Azur was 50%) 2) no definable difference in sound quality 3) it sounds subtly different in general, but too intangible to say Result? I'm amazed. I cannot safely say the "watts" are worse than on the traditional Azur, with all due respect to you good folks commenting here. So much so that I don't think it necessary to revert to the old setup to re-test. So go for it. My lounge looks that much the 'cleaner' for it - just speakers! By all means be brutal with your questions and I'll go and test them. BTW (on a tangent I've substituted Squeeze Commander for Squeezer, as my phone is now on secure BYOD. Pity, but Squeezer is good too. Converting off the Rpi GPIO feed, back onto the display feed via USB with this adapter only briefly shows lightning bolt at bootup (hi demand). Using white RPI adapter in this config is no good forever. Will stick with this config as aesthetically fewer cables if using RPI short USB cable. So it looks like this is a better adapter in general for Pi? Still not sure if its due to better cable, PS specs or bit of both? But happy. Upside is inline on/off switch which is fine on piCorePlayer. Couldn't find that detail yet. Its on order with reco'd 18v PSU. So we'll see empirically (will try to be objective). BTW, using the Azur in my setup is uncomfortable over half volume on the amp control. Not sure if control is linear on volume or quality? The 60W adapter is because its 60W potential output - for the AMP2 If you look carefully at the specs it tells you what it'll do per adapter used. They're not marketing it like the common audiophile prefers. I've already tried with a small UK mini amp supplier. And this was not satisfactory so I returned it. I'm going to have a stab at it with a 24V adapter and see how it fares. I'll report back below. toplard's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61805 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108987 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Jeff, See title. I'm talking about the AMP2 not the AMP+, which was know to have weaknesses. Still none the wiser. Are there any experts you know who can help please? Please define "real watts". And how do they differ from 'unreal' or "small class" watts? toplard's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61805 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108987 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] About to replace Hifiberry DAC/Cambridge Azur 340a with Hifiberry AMP2 - Thoughts?
Hi All, Anyone have anything to say about this upgrade? Current setup is excellent. Only problem is the traditional old amp is too large. For example, what about sound quality of the Amp2 - can anyone testify for it? The Cambridge is 50W output which is less than the new Amp2. I'm thinking, if I eliminate the analogue cable between old DAC and old amp that will improve sound? I only listen to FLAC locally and streamed. Any thoughts. And apologies if this should be in Audiophiles. Cheers. toplard's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=61805 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108987 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Lightning bolt on Jivelite with Original 7" touch screen and piCorePlayer, Pi3
Thanks for the hint. Sounds like there's a drop due to cable quality then mostly. BTW using GPIO + Rpi 2.1A adapter it works fine too BUT using GPIO + 4A adapter + selection of different cables, all no good I can't test the Pi adapter and cable separately which is a pity, so its not clear if its cable or adapter. mherger wrote: > Just another note: I've seen the same with a Pi2. [slim] Lightning bolt on Jivelite with Original 7" touch screen and piCorePlayer, Pi3
I'm using piCorePlayer just for the Jivelite add-on. And also I'm extending power from the screens USB power out to the Pi's power in. When in this configuration I get the lightening bolt no matter how low I set brightness etc. But when I use separate power for both screen and Pi, it goes away. Also when I use a mains power tester the draw is the same for both configurations. So it seems the Pi 3 is too power hungry. Not tried a Pi2 yet. Is there anything I can do with the screens USB out to increase power to the Pi, or reduce demand of the Pi3? Are my assumptions correct?
