[slim] Re: Just bought a Squeezbox - should I take it back?
Pay the difference? The SB2 is now available for less than what you paid. The SB3, wired, is $1 less than what you paid. You need to do a little reading on this forum and indicate to these guys what the real prices are. [slim] Re: Interesting Competitor to Squeezebox...
Hmm, if the device itself is as stupid and as slow as the company website, I'll pass. Seriously, though, I think the SB is still kind of a fringe device, but the tradeoff is that it's way cheap compared to this type of device. Impressive list of features on the Olive machine, but for that kind of money, folks on this list would want it to be hackable to the point of turning it into a robotic floor sweeper _and_ sexual aid. - Pat -- tubesguy ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Shoot! I was hoping the audiophile version would be at least $3k. I guess I'll pass until they come out with something better. ;-) - Pat -- tubesguy ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: SB2 wont detect new music.
I've got XP SP2 and I'm using 6.1.1 with the problem. It's not just getting it to recognize newly added songs, but also just getting it to recognize the entire library when I turn the computer off and then on again. Frustrating. - Pat -- tubesguy ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: problems with new Squeezebox/iTunes
I doubt that it's similar song titles or tags, or that it's the way you have iTunes set up to update the iPod. I have none of those issues, and I've found that the only reliable way to have 6.1 recognize the entire library, instead of some random number that is approximately 2/3 of the library, is to download slimserver again and start from scratch. There are now a number of posts from folks with similar problems. I'm just guessing, but this appears to be a bug of some type. The problem is that so far, it just appears that peers are responding to these threads, and no one from Slim is reading them. I'm new here, and I'm not sure how to direct attention to the problem. - Pat -- tubesguy ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: SB2 wont detect new music.
I'm having an ongoing problem with that issue in iTunes. Rescanning does nothing, and slimserver seems to find different, wrong total numbers of songs in the library. The only fix I've found is to download a new version of slimserver and let it go to work scanning. Not very convenient, or confidence-inspiring. - Pat -- tubesguy ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: SB2 as bridge - with Tivo?
Thanks again guys - My last message was not clear - the "no DHCP server" message was on the Tivo, not the SB2. Sorry about that, Ceejay. I had searched on "bridge" in the meantime, and found a thread that indicated that the bridge function needed to be turned on on the SB2. Did it, and I've got a networked Tivo. This is very cool. Thanks for the help. Now my only problem is the random, sometimes very long time it takes for the SB2 to connect to slimserver when I turn the computer back on after shutdown. Kind of makes it hard to demo, or even use, the SB2 on short notice. Any way to force a connection? I've tried repeatedly retrying to connect, but that appears to do nothing. Appreciate the great help for a total newb. Believe it or not, I actually graduated from a fancy-schmancy East Coast technology institute - but it was back in the Fortran days. This stuff now is frequently baffling to me. - Pat -- tubesguy ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Re: SB2 as bridge - with Tivo?
Hmm- Still no workie here. I've got a tested, known-good crossover cable and a tested, known-good Ethernet - USB 2.0 adaptor (Linksys USB200M) and I get to a "DHCP server not found" screen and no further. What I don't know about networks could fill several volumes. Does anyone have a suggestion? [slim] Re: SB2 as bridge - with Tivo?
Great news. I'll try it tomorrow when I can get to CompUSA to get a crossover cable. Tried today (before reading the rest of the posts in the thread) with a regular ethernet cable. No worky, of course. Thanks again guys - pat -- tubesguy ___ Discuss mailing list Discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] SB2 as bridge - with Tivo?
Has anyone tried to use the SB2 as a bridge to enable network control of a Tivo? I got the SB2 a few days ago, and emboldened by the rave reviews, got a router up and running and a wireless network going in my home. In looking around for network solutions for the Tivo, I concluded that using a wireless bridge looked like the best solution, especially because Tivos don't support WPA security, when using USB wireless adaptors, and I had set up my network using WPA rather than WEP. This afternoon I ordered a wireless bridge, and then, this evening, I discovered that the SB2 has bridge capabilities. So, I've cancelled the order for the bridge, but let me ask if anyone has used the SB2 with a Tivo, or, for that matter, in any other bridging scenario.
