I am not thinking to use that. If it was only a matter of streaming the same files you listen to from the server, then any media player such as the WDTVLive will do. You just use an UPnP server instead of Logitech's server, connect the WDTVlive to the TV and to a DAC and you are set-up. I have a second HI-Fi setup like this, works great.. The idea is to mock-up the Squeezebox, so the only way is to use software. I have a Galaxy Tab P1000. It has Android 2.3 and squeeze player inside. Works as a charm and has great sound. (the P1000 has Wolfon's DAC on board) So I think any decently engineered Android Media Player will do. The Linux device you are suggesting is not at all fit for non-technical users. On the other hand an Android media player is as difficult to set-up as a smartphone. Of course I agree with you on buying one which is supported. wellington's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7601 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96191 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Now the Squeezebox is dead, what would your next system be? And why?
I have my music files inside a TS-210 QNAP NAS. My Squeezebox touch gets FLAC files from the NAS and then digitally feeds a DAC Magic by Cambridge Audio. I have noticed the appearance of android-based media players who have S/Pdif interface. One of these players with "Squeese Player" will likely mock up a Squeezebox. I would then connect the DAC Magic externally through S/PDif I/F. There would be no way to control the box without a phone of the TV but this is not a problem. Concerning quality, Since the DAC Magic is a properly designed re-clocking DAC I doubt there will be any audible difference with my current setup even if the S/Pdif output of the player had to be less carefully designed than the current one of the Squeezebox touch. The other option is to use the built-in Twonky UPnP Server in the NAS and buy a Music Player such as the CA NP30. This player has a very good DAC inside so it will probably make sense to use it instead of the external DAC I have. This will mean getting rid of the whole Slimdevices/Logitech legacy and find another usage for the DAC Magic. Re: [slim] Squeezebox 3 problem with s/pdif interface
thank you to all. Apologies for not having given a feedback to you all, but I've been out of home for a while and I am back now. I bought a decent optical cable, connected the SB3 through it and the problem seems to be disappeared. It probably has to do with something in my electrical cabling. The multi-plug socket I am using is probably not of the best quality and shall have to be replaced. Anybody have a suggestion for a decently priced solution? (not more than euro 50) The current setup is for a simnple multi-plug (one main electrical switch, plus one switch per plug) powering the DVD-player, the SB3, the DAC and the integrated amplifier. On another plug I have a Plasma widescreen, an IOmega HDplayer and a DVB-T external box. I do not have other mains plugs in the near proximity, so it shall have to be a multi-plug solution. In the stores near where I live (Milan, Italy) you can find what I would call "fancy multi-plug sockets" from Belkin or similar. Will any of these be a viable option? Re: [slim] Squeezebox 3 problem with s/pdif interface
thanks for the suggestions. I will buy a toslink cable tomorrow. In the meantime I've found at home a 75ohm video cable of no great quality. I tried it anyway and it did not sort the problem out. The amazing thing happened yesterday evening and also this evening. >From about 20.30 on, the defect disappeared. It came back this morning and now is gone again. I cannot believe it. The equipment has been on and running for all of the day showing the defect many times, and now (21.00) is gone. Maybe something to do with power supply and noise in my electricity newtwork? otherwise I have no clue on what is happening. Any help will be appreciated. [slim] Squeezebox 3 problem with s/pdif interface
Hi I've recently bought a Cambridge Audio DACMagic to use as external DAC for my Squeezebox 3. I've connected it through a proper copper cable since the person who sold the DACMAgic to me told it was better than a Toslink. The thing is while listening I get some micro-interruptions of the audio, once every 5 minutes average, but randomly. It's about 1/10 th of second interruption, enough to be annoying. The DACMagic has front leds showing the presence of the signal and the related sampling frequence. Indeed during the interruption periods the led goes off. This seems to indicate there is temporarily and for a short period no signal on the s/pdif interface and is the main reason for which I think the problem is on the SB3 side, but I'm not so sure it is the Squeezebox, or the DACMagic. On the other hand, I connected my earphones to the SB3 and tried to understand what happend when the microinterruption came. The audio signal on the earphone is fine, even during the interruption, so the internal DAC of the SB3 has no problem. I've done some things, but all useless: 1. I've tried another mains plug for the SB3 and the DACMagic. No result 2. I've swapped the s/pdif cable with another one. No result 3. I've upgraded to the last beta version of squeezecenter, but no result 4. I've spry-cleaned the s/pdif connector of the SB3, thinking that since it had been idle for 2 years it might have been oxidated. No result The system I'm using is: - one SB3 bought in april 2006 connected through Wireless LAN to a wireless router. The speed verification goes up to 5 mbps without problems. - Squeezecenter, last version, running on Vista - Cambridge Audio DACMagic, brand new - s/pdif electrical cable from Cambridge Audio, normal grade Is there anything else I should try to make this work before I go back to the shop with the DACMagic? Thank you in advance to all and Merry Christmas. -- wellington wellington's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7601 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57125 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Squeezecenter icon not appearing in the notification area
Done the english install but no progress. I've opened up the process list and I can see: SQUEEZE^1.EXErunning at 50% (it is actualy written in caps letter!) Scanner running at 22% MySql, at 3% Something is actually running but the start page wont open. I've reconnected the SB3 I have, it is looking for the server but cannot connect. Maybe something went wrong with permissions and Squeezecenter cannot create one or more files? Re: [slim] Squeezecenter icon not appearing in the notification area
Yes, precisely, I run squeezatray.exe from the command window and it returns without any error, (icon showing up on the tray) and I'm back on the command prompt afterwards. I can see it in the list of processes running as well. Then if you click on the icon and choose to open the server you get a white page and a waiting forever state. My vista is in italian. I tried 7.01 last build, but it is still the same. Could run the english one, I do not mind. I also tried to execute the other exe file in the folder, do not remember the name, but it is the one who gives the choice to start as a server or as an application. I choose "application" and the icon appears on the tray, and even the writing "starting" but just for one second, then it terminates while at the same time a command window opens up and close, although too fast to see what's written in the window. Thank you Michael If I start it from the vista menu, the icons shows up, but immediately disappears. If I do via the command line, the icon shows up and stays, and if you put the cursor on it it tells you the server is working. But if you right click on it and try to open the browser, nothing happens and the icon immediately disappears. However I had to reisntall my Vista Home Premium and after that I had of course to reinstall Squezecenter. I agree with what said in the last post, but as I already posted I've re-tagged with 2 tag editors and the problem is still there. Re: [slim] Tag problems WMA
forgot to say I have noticed something else. The albums do not show up in the "artist" menu, but the related albums do indeed show up if you search by "album" in SB. I can then get the album, and SB tells me it is from the proper artist, but back in the artist menu the albums do not show up. For example if I search for the artist "Anouk" it tells me there is just some mp3 files, but if I search for albums it tells me there is a "Graduated Fool" by "Anouk" coded in wma. Very strange. -- wellington wellington's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7601 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34095 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Italian owners?
[slim] Re: USB to Ethernet adaptor and SB3 as bridge? Is what i wanttodo possible?
do not buy the adapter, it will not work. Adapters from USB to ethernet are designed to work on a PC and are just meant for having ethernet connectivity without using a LAN card. The PVR you would be connecting does not have the capabilities of a PC, since it is a "slave" USB device, needing a "master" connection from PC side to work, so it will not be able to drive the ethernet connection. And even if it could how could it transfer data in the network without a TCP stack and at least some FTP capability? these are totally missing in your PVR.
