Re: [slim] 24 bit 88.2KHz FLACS and SB Classic

2010-03-11 Thread Mnyb

* The "24bit" Is probably 80% of the increased SQ .
* Future use, I can only play 48khz -now- my Touch is on order 96k is
not far away, have been building a library for the last 5 months for
this.
Mostly rips of my own DVDA's
* Linn is and some other brands have recordings that are recorded and
mastered in Hirez format, why pay for a watered down version at all. If
I pay I want an copy off the master or as close as they allow me, for
the future uses.

* I have no idea what kind of equipment i would own in the future.
But the stuff I own today do use 24/96 and does some processing
internally room correction and subwoofer filter and 5.1 modes center ch
eq.
My guess is that future hifi will use even more processing. So then
using a higher rez file makes a lot of sense if my hifi is going to do
EQ and other stuff.

Of course buyers beware, there is to many re-fried 16b 44.1 marketed as
"Hi-rez" .

But buying the 24/96 or 24/88.2 from the few that makes them for real
is OK for me If the music suits me.

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...
SB Touch Beta (wired) - TACT 2.2X (Linear PSU) + Good Vibrations S/W -
MF Triplethreat(Audiocom full mods) - Linn 5103 - Aktiv 5.1 system (6x
LK140's, ESPEK/TRIKAN/KATAN/SEIZMIK 10.5), Townsend Supertweeters, Blue
Jeans Digital,Kimber Speaker & Chord Interconnect cables
Kitchen Boom, Outdoors: SB Radio

Yes it will transcode with the help of flac and sox .
Seeing that you are on a x86 and have 7.4.1 it should just work, right
off.

You should get the 2ch FLAC files 5.1 won't do with lossles on a
squeezebox

They have test files, just try them.

http://www.linnrecords.com/linn-downloads-testfiles.aspx

This is the 24/88.2 flac file

http://download.linnrecords.com/test/flac/recit24bit.aspx

And a 24/192 one

[slim] 24 bit 88.2KHz FLACS and SB Classic

2010-03-09 Thread swhite58

I've been looking at Linn Records' site and thought it might be nice to
try their 24/88.2 "Studio master" FLACs. I have a Classic and
Squeezebox Server 7.4.1. I know the Classic will play 24/48 files.
Will Squeezebox Server downsample the 24/88.2 to 24/48, and do I need
any additional software to do it?

Thanks

Shane
