How else would it distinguish? No thanks. You can either create an additional db and track this information (itunes), which the music itself doesn't carry with it or you can restructure your directories (in a variety of ways). Not that complicated. Structure "Various Artists"\Album\Track will work for compilations. Just make sure that artist tag is populated with the artists you care about, the rest you can leave blank. You can also play with COMPILATION tag -- slimkid The sound stage will open up, bass will tighten and the imaging will improve. I use \Artist\Album\Track but for Various Artist albums to be reported as a single instance, I would need \Album\Artist\Track If that's the case, I'll either need to live with it not being correct in SlimServer or modify my directory structure (in one of several ways). Either way, I need to bend to SlimServer's will and can't make it bend to mine. I use iTunes and use the "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" feature, which keeps an inherently different structure than SlimServer requires for compilations to count as a single album instance. -- prabbit prabbit's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11142 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35699 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

There is nothing wrong with having the artist for each track listed in the artist field for compilation albums. However, to be considered as one album by slimserver, you will be required to have the tracks from the same album in the same folder. Otherwise, there isn't any way for slimserver to combine the tracks into a single album. This may be the cause of the splitting, especially if you can locate albums while browsing that have some tracks under one list item, and the rest under another. -kdf ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I get this too. I think the problem is associated with the tags - the artist for each song is in the Artist field - rather than the artist being just "Various Artists", therefore each artist instance (song) is considered to be an album. I haven't upgraded. This is my first install. It's not a double of everything. It's specific to albums that have multiple artists (soundtracks, compilations, etc.). -- prabbit prabbit's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11142 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35699 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Album count
I have seen this a couple of times after upgrading. If you have exactly double the amount of files (everything repeated) then there is a way to fix it but I can't for the life of me remember. A search in around 'double' should turn something up. If you have only partial doubling up the problem could be elsewhere. If all else fails try going back to 6.5.1. -- Heuer Heuer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2543 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35699 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Album count
I have a question about the album count. Slimserver is reporting this: 2633 albums with 17678 songs by 1220 artists That's about twice as many albums than I actually have. I've determined that the problem is with soundtracks and other "various artists"-type albums. I've looked at the Server Settings > Behavior page and changing the "COMPILATIONS" section didn't change my count after clearing my database and doing a complete rescan. My goal is when I click Browse > Albums that I only see a soundtrack or various artist album listed once, when I click it, then I would see all of the songs/artists. Currently, if a soundtrack has ten songs, the soundtrack is counted ten times. I'm sure I'm missing an obvious setting somewhere to fix this. Or maybe it has to do with the tags in my files? Can someone point me in the right direction?
