Re: [slim] Can I use iPeng playback away from home?
My router is an Apple Time Capsule. Can I set it up for VPN, as this seems more secure. My server is on my primary home computer, an iMac. -- Kyle Regards, Jim Kyle's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2541 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88531 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Thank you - I'll give that a try asap. I've got a Touch, SB3 and Duet and I stream to all of them lossless so it never dawned on me to stream mp3 remotely. -- mdconnelly Mike mdconnelly's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10312 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88531 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

That's convenient! http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Enjoying_your_music_from_another_place You have to install Lame and then you will be able to tell SBS (for that player) to "limit bitrate" and it (SBS) will convert on-the-fly to mp3 for your remote enjoyment. This is easy to fix: http://forums.slimdevices.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=638418 You can install Lame and tell your server to transcode to MP3 at your selected bitrate. Re: [slim] Can I use iPeng playback away from home?
You need to punch holes in your network firewall to enable remote access to certain ports. Check here for instructions: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/ConnectingRemotely The difficulty (for me) is that my upload bandwidth is small so attempting to stream music from my home PC, out my router, over the internet and to wherever I happen to be is marginal at best. Sometimes it works, but more often than not, playback stutters or stalls completely. But, it can still be very useful even if you have this problem. What I really like is that if I'm shopping for music (store, yardsale, etc...) I can easily use iPeng on my phone to check to see if I already have an album. [slim] Can I use iPeng playback away from home?
Can I access my music collection through iPeng if I'm not on my network? I have Squeezecenter on a Mac if that makes any difference. -- Kyle Regards, Jim Kyle's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2541 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=88531 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
