The amps circuits will drain the charge off the power supply caps in a matter of seconds. I wouldn't worry about it. No worries as Skunk simply suggested the obvious (tape off the spades whilst I muck about with the cables) Now ... You need to use the black duct tape, and coat it with violin lacquer. Seriously, what caps are you talking about? The power supply caps? Is the power supply inside the amp box or external? Are the binding posts you are talking about speaker terminals or are they used to connect an external supply to the amp? In your case I'd suggest C37 lacquer over tape (not layered- in lieu of). Clear fingernail polish will work as well (as red, but not Carbon37). Re: [slim] Capacitance
Thanks Skunk, Sometimes I am oblivious to the obvious. As you suggest, the tape over the connectors - elegant. Any thoughts on the brand of tape? You know...keeping with the audiophile norm such as soundstage, delineation, assertation and such as this. Never mind. With my tube amp it does a 5 second fade out, which I assume drains something (expert testimony welcome). Don't try shorting the binding posts with a screwdriver or anything! More importantly, why is there no insulation on the speaker cables? You could use electrical tape to cover bare spots (I'm hoping the entire cable isn't), and remove it once sorted/preferably leave it on while in use. -- Skunk Skunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2685 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34938 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Capacitance
Is there a safe and easy way to discharge the residual current at the binding post of my (disconnected) amp? I'm getting ready to re-route my speaker cables and looking ahead, I see the easiest way for me would be to hook-up the amp side first. I don't wan't the bare cable leads to short my amp as I'm mucking about with the rat's nest back of my audio cab. . -- haunyack Transporter -> B&K Reference 200.2 -> Vandersteen 3A Signature.
