The 'normal' setup (IMHO) would be something like what I have: internet - router - switch - sb3 - server (slimserver) - pc In fact I have multiple switches and a wireless accesspoint, all connected to the 'main' switch, but the principle remains the same. You have to set the DNS Gateway to the IP address of your router. It cured my problem. good Luck -- Smiffy Tennis was invented so that man dog would have something slimy to play with together. Re: [slim] Connecting to the internet
Well, how does your PC connect to the Internet? A little diagram would help. If you are using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) and a USB connected ADSL modem then try setting the DNS and gateway to 192.168.0.1 (the PC). -- Cry Havok Cry Havok's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3267 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42211 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Connecting to the internet
Thanks for the reply. Essentially it all works from the hub. The internet come to the hub and then to a router beside the pc. So the flow runs something like this phone line -hub - router- pc -hub - sb I did try and set the gateway as 192.168.0.1 but no joy. -- twenty8 twenty8's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15012 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42211 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Connecting to the internet
Are those 2 separate hubs, or the same? Drawing the physical connections would be more useful than a flow diagram. It would make more sense to put the inner hub between the PC and the router and then connect the SB to that. If you do it that way then you can just take the default gateway and DNS settings from the PC and use them on the SB (or just set the SB to use DHCP and forget about it). -- Cry Havok Cry Havok's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3267 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42211 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Connecting to the internet
Internet | | hub router -sb3 | | |wireless modem | | PC/ Slimserver Hope this makes sense. The modem and PC are in the same room. The hub is where all the cabling in the house all come back to. I can just connect various rooms through this hub. -- twenty8 twenty8's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15012 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42211 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Connecting to the internet
Ok, now I'm confused. Do you have 3 devices connected to the Internet through the hub and only the SB behind the router? That's not good design. The router should sit where the hub is just now, protecting your network from the Internet. Everything else should be connected to the router's LAN port(s), possibly via the hub (connected to the router's LAN port). Something like: Hub --- Router --- Internet | |---PC |---Wireless |---SB3 Then set the router to be a DHCP server (which is probably is by default) and then set the PC, wireless and SB3 to use DHCP to get their address. -- Cry Havok Cry Havok's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3267 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42211 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
