hardware compatibility. I've got 3 PCs all recent Intel chipset based
(2 x Asus, 1 x Intel), Nvidia based video cards and everything just
works "out of the box". In my experience, once configured/ customised
(eg adding SC to the repository), there's very little "sudo" anything
required.

What hardware are you running?

For me, other than the original installation itself (which admittedly
was a bit of a struggle, but then again if you like the SB you like to
fiddle around with stuff :), it has been point and click. This is for a
desktop that is wired to the network, is all pretty common hardware, and
with an Intel Core Duo E8400 is weasel fast. And only consumes about 75W
under full load.

these days there is no more complexity in Linux than there is in
Windows, just about everything is point and click.

I have a WHS (HP MediaSmartServer) and SqueezeCentre performs flawlessly
on it. Plus WHS has lots of nice easy to use functions for management
etc. WHS is a good way to go for people who don't want to deal with the
complexity of Linux.

Have you considered a Linux-based server? SC performs better on a Linux
platform than it does on a Windows based platform, so if speed is a
consideration it's definitely worth looking into.

oh, i like this one :-) to be fair the treatment is definitely high
quality (compared to other forums)...

back on-topic: i really like my SBC, especially because features get
continously added (music-ip access, trackstat rating, ...)

thanks to all contributors!

kind regards,

No down time since I bought it in Jan. I've had some issues with tags
not working as I thought they should but just a difference of opinion,
and the issue of replaygain not working right if you have both
replaygain tags and Itunes soundcheck tags in the same file. But the
main thing is no down time. I'd say at least 80% of problems people
have are with network issues and antivirus programs.

These forums are like hospitals, you won't find too many healthy folks.

Those who aren't having any problems don't come around.

I haven't had a problem with my duet at all — save for McAfee blocking
access to certain files. And that's wasn't a Duet issue at all.

Four receivers and a controller. Buying a classic next!

Ditto for me as well. It's been a snap to set up and in general has run
smoothly. Very sporadic network issues but I'm a happy customer. I'm
running mine on a windows home server. I'm about to set up a similar
system on linux for a friend...

kudos to logitech for the device.

Yes - aside from the occasional network issue, which is nothing to do
with Logitech, my SB3 and Duet are best bits of hi-fi kit I've bought
for ages - and certainly the best value.

It's transformed the way I listen to music - and opened up internet
radio for me greatly.

Keep up the good work guys!

Re: [slim] Duet is excellent

2008-07-31 Thread FredFredrickson

I second this- I have been very happy with my squeezebox.

The frustrating part is troubleshooting my own home network. Hardly a
problem for logitech, but it's easy for people to get mad and blame you
guys when the application at hand (squeezebox) isn't working properly,
despite the cause.

The only problems I run into are either unrelated, or beta related.
And, of course, I signed up for beta problems when I installed beta
software.

Anyway, keep up the good work! Don't let the negative posts get you
down. Something we remind ourselves at our business is this: You're
more likely to hear back from the unhappy customers, because they need
a problem solved. But there is always the silent majority!
