Re: [slim] Harmony remote and Squeezebox

Add works on my Harmony. I just assigned the + key to the bottom left
+ key on the harmony, and if I hold it down it behaves in the same
way as the SB3 remote.

My 676 works well with the update to the Slim_Devices_Remote.ir file.

The remote feels snappy and has the rubber/soft buttons.
What it is missing is the alpha character listing around the number
buttons for lazy searches.

The Harmony 885 feels as snappy as the original. Of course it is a
clumsier object...
May I seize the opportunity to ask you: when should we expect to learn
more about your work on tagging classical music?

Re: [slim] Harmony remote and Squeezebox

2007-09-22 Thread vrobin

The direction buttons of the Harmony 555 is a round hard plastic four
position button and I really miss the soft and snappy sensation of the
original remote. I think the timer values of the squeezebox device
could also be improved but I it's not the problem I mainly focus right
now.

As you noticed, I haven't kept my word and didn't write anything about
my classical music tagging experience. In fact, I'm pushing my work
further, stopped experiencing with Mp3Tag to rewrite some sort of
multiple online database aggregator in perl.

I'm keeping all the rules I defined earlier, but pushing them farther.
It's in early development (I can only work on it an hour or two a day
and I had to re-learn perl nearly from scratch) but I'll share the
details with you when it's more mature.

The rules I already defined was to keep in the tags as much detailed
information as you can (be it from online database, editor sites or
manually entered) as structured as possible and use a bunch of scripts
to write the only tags used by your favorite musig manager program
(ALBUM, TITLE, YEAR, ORIGYEAR, ARTIST, ALBUMARTIST, COMPOSER, GENRE,
etc.). This way, you can change your mind, change your program,
enhance the way you manage your music without changing standards tags
manually.

There is no need for this tool to be finished before I keep my word, so
I'll try in the week(s?) to come to write about my experience in the
wiki.

(automatic tasks could be add SORT tags from normal tags, extract
opus number from title name, standardize names and accented characters
automatically, create genre tags from composition date, etc.)

It would be very interesting to know a bit more regarding this tool
before it's finished, maybe you can start a separate thread somewhere
and describe your ideas in a little bit more detail ?

The reason I'm asking this is that I'm starting to see some potential
for music library management here, which Logitech already has stated
that they don't want directly in SlimServer.

Some questions:
Is the meta data stored in a big file for your whole library, or are
you thinking of one meta data file per song ?

What format is the meta data file in ? xml ?

Will it be possible to browse the meta data file and edit the meta data
file field values through your tool ?

Depending on how your ideas are, I'm thinking it might even be possible
to make a shortcut by making some custom scanner code that reads the
meta data file and writes the information directly to the SlimServer
database.

One minor question (which shows the extent of my ignorance in this
matter): How does one, automatically or semi-automatically, make use of
the data, say, in AMG, without copying it by hand? As far as I know, AMG
doesn't allow query-type access to its data.

It seems to work with a 555.

I did not find the time to play with my new remote and the SB but I

As the Harmony subject is popping there, has anybody there managed to

[slim] Harmony remote and Squeezebox

2007-09-19 Thread rlsx

This question was raised before...

Using the Logitech Harmony 880 remote.

For the Squeezebox, the following commands are assigned to buttons:
Browse, Browse Album, Browse Artist, etc.

Of these commands, only Browse is recognized by the SB3, any
explanation?

(Btw, the SB3 is configured to recognize both native and JVC codes)
